The Good Missions Guide: A Heroic Levelling Journey through Story Arcs
PeregrineFalcon replied to Gulbasaur's topic in Guides
Yes. However, if the story arc has that book icon next to it then you'll still be able to complete the arc, regardless of your level. -
Also, Blasters get Defiance. Which, among other things, adds a stacking damage buff after every attack. Unlike Scourge, this damage bonus is not reflected in the numbers shown in the in game powers window. So I understand why it can be confusing, but no. Corruptors do not out damage Blasters.

I just want to mention preemptively that the developers have said that they will not make the upgrade powers automatic. I know that you're not asking for this, Neiska. But, every time we have a conversation about MMs people start saying that they want the upgrade powers to be auto powers. A developer has already stated definitively that they will not do that. So I just wanted to mention that, preemptively.

That's been a proven theme for Homecoming since shortly after it launched in April 2019. I guess I can't get too upset about it. Turns out pirates be acting like pirates, no shock there. Now I don't want to hear a single word after this from the people who want to convince me how professional the Homecoming staff are, when they clearly and obviously have a double standard for when, and to whom, the rules apply.

As an aside, I've always thought that the Leadership pool was misnamed. Think about it for a second. It's a collection of powers that helps everyone on the team and is way better if everyone, or a bunch of people, has it. So it really should be called the Teamwork Power Pool. A Leadership power pool would make more sense if it was something that helped everyone on the team but didn't stack, as leadership really only works if there's just one leader, for small teams anyway. In game terms it would have to be something that only worked if the user has the star and its effect was multiplied times the number of people within the 60' radius. But yeah, that ship's already sailed. Sorry, just an errant thought.

You know, this reminds me of a forum thread about an official costume contest that was run by Lighthouse and Ex-Libris on the retail forums. I still have this, and a few other threads from the retail forums, saved on my SSD. During this official costume contest myself, and a few other people, pointed out that 4 or 5 of the runners up were obvious and specific trademark violations, mostly of various comic book characters. Talk about a complete fiasco. The drama by the forum posters and the utter incompetence of the people running the contest made for some spectacular reading.

I don't take Leadership on most of my Tankers because the builds are tight and because I don't really want the squishies to be standing that close to me. On Blasters and Defenders I usually do have a couple of the Leadership toggles. In fact, my friends and I have an all Leadership team of nothing but squishies will Assault, Maneuvers and Tactics. Needless to say we don't really miss not having a tank on that team.

Classification on melee types
PeregrineFalcon replied to The_Warpact's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
I would say The Phantom is a Scrapper with the Pistols Power Pool and the Stealth Power Pool. I don't think he's a Mastermind at all, I think he just has a good Super Group. Same with Doc Savage. -
Something's been bugging me about this whole scenario since I first started reading this thread. That little voice in the back of my head that always warns me right before I do something really stupid has been trying to tell me something, but I couldn't quite hear it. Then I read this: And then suddenly, what's likely to happen if this option gets implemented became crystal clear. First, someone recruits a team. Second, someone changes the option to No Hospital without telling anyone. Third, when a player dies the leader berates that player until they've acknowledged and given a hearty "Yes, sir!" to every bit of the leader's advice. Only then would the leader allow that player to get resurrected and continue playing the game. I guarantee you that will happen. And, if you think about it, you know that it will too. This is definitely the Dolores Umbridge option, and I'm against it.

I don't mind the Tier 9's as is, but I do think that they could stand some revision. I'd change them to be like Strength of Will, 2 minute duration and immune to recharge enhancement. I'd also change them so that they offer the opposite of what the set typically offers. This creates a layered defense and makes them actually worth using. So, for example, SR's Elude would give 60% damage resistance to everything, instead of defense. Electric Armor's Power Surge would give 30% Defense and a zillion points of DDR so that the defense won't just get debuffed within seconds. You get the idea.

Sins of the Devs are visited upon the players
PeregrineFalcon replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
Well, GM Tahquitz's post saying that we are allowed to disagree with suggestions is still up. However, there is a difference between writing a single post saying you don't like/agree with the suggestion (like say a jranger), and writing 30 posts disagreeing, arguing with people, calling people names, etc etc. So it doesn't seem to me like there's anything sinister about GM Kai's post. And this is coming from me. The guy who never misses an opportunity to point out how biased and ridiculous the moderation on this forum often is. -
I know this game is maintained by volunteers and I get to play it for free. There, I've said the magic words, so let's move on to the actual suggestion. Since Empyrean Merits can no longer be traded for Reward Merits, because of concerns about AE farming, I think the devs should allow Prismatic Aether Particle Salvage to be traded for Reward Merits. I'm thinking at something like 1 PAPS to 50 RM. This gives us even more incentive to run Hard Mode content, and does it in a way that doesn't reward AFK farming.

Sins of the Devs are visited upon the players
PeregrineFalcon replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
Probably, but I'm not interested in doing the research for you. And I'm sure the devs know that too, which is why they recently nerfed the ability of people to turn Emp Merits into Reward Merits, but didn't nerf influence gains. Yes, I am aware of this. At no point did I claim otherwise. That's not quite what happened. What happened was someone responded to a post that I made pages back, and over a week ago, to disingenuously claim that farming is no different than normal game play. And I responded to that. I'm not trying to invalidate farming, you just made that up. The problem that I have, as I've said multiple times before, isn't with people farming. It's with people farming and then lying and claiming that it's no different than normal game play. It's clearly different than normal game play. It's done differently, for different reasons, often uses different builds, and the missions built for it are different than the normal story/lore based missions that non-farmers play. -
Sins of the Devs are visited upon the players
PeregrineFalcon replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
Sure, and I already acknowledged that in my previous post. It was merely an example. The problem that I have isn't with farming. I've already said that, multiple times. The problem that I have is with the farmers posting on the forums that farming is exactly the same as just playing content normally. This is clearly not true. If it were true then they wouldn't be so upset that the devs have nerfed farming a bit. But they insist on projecting their anger onto me so they claim that I'm "galled" by farming or that I want to "nerf em all", despite my having said multiple times "I don't care if people farm." It's not farming that galls me, it's the intentional lying about my motivations. As if they were psychic and/or are unable to actually read what I write. -
Sins of the Devs are visited upon the players
PeregrineFalcon replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
Did I ever say that at any point? Ever? No? So you're just putting words in my mouth. You're just setting up a strawman argument. You're making up stuff that I never said. Let's be clear about this. You're responding to something that I never said, and intentionally missing the point of my post. True. Which is one reason why a lot of the content is repeatable. However, since the devs have made clear that they don't support farming it makes no sense to expect them to take any actions to support farming. They clearly think that farming is too lucrative, which is why they keep nerfing bit by bit. Repeating content in order to have something to do is clearly intended, which is why we have radio/newspaper missions and Ouroborus. That's a whole lot different that finding the most efficient way possible to repeat content in order to maximize rewards. By the way, if farming is so much just like running normal content normally, then why not just run normal content normally? Because it's not. It's different. It's specifically done in the most efficient manner possible in order to maximize rewards. That's clearly different that just enjoying the content, reading the mission text and enjoying the cutscenes. In short, I'm not saying that you shouldn't farm or that the devs should nerf farming. I'm simply saying that farming is different that running normal content normally. Any insistence that farming is the same as just playing the game is disingenuous at best, and flat out lying at worst. -
Sins of the Devs are visited upon the players
PeregrineFalcon replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
I used to play Dungeons & Dragons when I was a young man. Have you ever played it? I still remember one of my favorite modules: I have played through that module on more than one character. It was always interesting to see another DM's take on this adventure. But you know what I never did? I never said "Hey, let's have our characters rest and heal up and then enter the dungeon again and kill all of the monsters for XP again and get all of the same loot again. And then, next game session, we can do it again and again and again. Until we all hit max level!!! What do you guys think?" Could we have done that? Sure. We never did because that's not intended game play. Intended game play is that you play the module/quest/mission, you read the story, you fight the monsters, and then you move on to another adventure. That's intended game play. Farming is NOT intended game play. And that's the difference. And all of you who are arguing "but we beat up bad guys, just like you do" are being disingenuous because you know that farming is not intended game play. It's possible because of a side effect of some missions being replayable, but it's not intended game play. That's why this game has hundreds of missions and not 12 missions. Because repeating the same missions over and over and over and over and over is not intended game play. As further proof that farming is NOT intended game play let me remind you all that the devs recently removed the AE from the starter zones, Atlas Park and Mercy Island. So, if you want to farm then farm. I don't care. But please stop with the "but farming is just beating up the bad guys too, hur dur hur duuuuuurp." Farming is not like intended game play. You know it isn't. I know it isn't. Please stop trying to insult my intelligence by making these ridiculous comparisons. -

You're at your computer, at work, chatting with people on a forum about a Superhero MMO. Pot, come in. This is Kettle. Over. -

Base portals have a lot of particle effects. Your GTX 980 should be able to handle it no problem, but it's still going to have to work at it. You can dial down the amount of allowed particle effects in options. This will increase your FPS in combat and around base portals and it will decrease how hard your GPU has to work. -
Thought experiment (status effects)
PeregrineFalcon replied to Luminara's topic in General Discussion
Thank you for this thought experiment. It's interesting to think about and discuss. I play a lot of MMOs and table top RPGs, and mez or controls are always a problem. I call it the "Boss Problem." Players generally don't want to mez trash mobs or even "Lieutenants", they just kill them fast enough that they're not an issue, they want to mez the Boss. Whether it's called a Boss, an EB, a Veteran, a Champion, a GM, a BBEG or an Ancient Dragon. It's the boss monster that they want to mez, and of course developers (and DM's) don't want the players to be able to mez their boss monster. So as a game designer, how do you make mezzes something that players actually want to use without making them game breaking? To quote Private Grif: "I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night." And at this point I don't think there's anything the Homecoming team can really do to fix it. Any rework of the Mez System, even a minor one, is likely to change so many things that the game that came out the other end probably wouldn't look a lot like City of Heroes anymore. -
Thought experiment (AoE buffs/debuffs/controls/damage)
PeregrineFalcon replied to Luminara's topic in General Discussion
Why? It would make Melt Armor worth actually using on AVs and GMs. -

It wasn't just you. He did it to a bunch of people. I'm seeing his thumbs down in tons of threads that are over a year old. It looks like he's some angry PvPer who thinks that a thumbs down will hurt us in some way. Personally, I take a thumbs down as a badge of honor, much like a warning point. Both say to me "the other person couldn't admit that they're wrong so they had to take action to try to silence me." -

Try giving negative feedback in the feedback threads on this forum and see how many of your concerns get dismissed as the mods delete your posts while allowing the insulting posts from the dev defenders to remain. And yes, I am aware that he meant within the CoH game setting. That's also how I meant it, and he's not wrong. The people who do want to nerf everything in conjunction with the AE are very intolerant of other opinions.
