The tragedy of the Brute Fury nerf. A timeless lament
PeregrineFalcon replied to Snarky's topic in Brute
You know, I don't agree with Snarky very often, but when I do it's because he's right. Restoring Brute's upper limit to damage, and tying it strictly to active attacks, not to damage auras, would be a way to restore the damage chasing play style of Brutes without benefiting AFK farmers. I suspect that farmers, or at least those of the AFK variety, are a big part of the reason that Brute's damage way nerfed in the first place. -
Whenever I've seen the term used it's by people who can't (or won't put forth the effort to) accomplish something criticizing those people who have succeeded in accomplishing something. For example; those people who've never even been in a raid group criticizing raiders as "tryhards." So maybe you're right, but I've never seen it used in the context you're describing.

For years now Tankers have been asking for Energy Aura. In that time the developers have created two entirely new power sets, Electrical Affinity and Musical Chairs, or whatever it's called. But for some reason they just haven't had the time to port Energy Aura over to Tankers. They've have the time to add new mechanics to Energy Melee, Sorcery Pool and Electrical Blast, but, for some reason, they just haven't had the time to port Energy Aura over to Tankers. They've even had the time to create an entirely new game difficulty mode. But, for some reason, they just haven't had the time to port Energy Aura over to Tankers. So that's my suggestion. If the devs really want to show us that they "listen to feedback" then why not give us something that's been asked for since the retail forums? Port Energy Aura to Tankers, please. Thank you.

I don't think this would be a good idea. Constantly having to give your pets new orders is the desired play style and the entire point behind the MM AT. Also, I have an "Attack My Target" macro in the power tray of all of my MMs that I hit whenever a target dies. I'm divided on this suggestion. I like it, and I'd love it if my MMs had some Status Protection. On the other hand, a lot of suggestions lately have involved giving Status Protection to squishies. Not everyone can have Status Protection, mezzes become worthless if everyone has Status Protection.

This game launched with a trinity. One of the AT's is even called Tanker. That should have clued you in back in 2004. It's a little late to be complaining about a trinity now. I love how "tryhard" is now an insult. Like people trying hard to do something successfully is somehow a bad thing. And Champions Online was dead in the water with the Day One Patch. Forcing a trinity onto the game had nothing to do it with. Oh really? Everquest launched with a trinity in 1999. So did Star Wars Galaxies in 2003. Same with City of Heroes and World of Warcraft in 2004. Same with Rift and SWTOR in 2012. So tell me again how a trinity is something only found in Asian fantasy MMOs. No wait, don't bother. Nothing that you wrote in the OP is true and it's likely that your response won't be either. Improvise, adapt and overcome.

Picking AT and sets based on concept only
PeregrineFalcon replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Both. I have some characters that I regularly bring into all of the games that I play. I always try to find a class/AT/power set that best fits my concept of them. I also will find a class/AT power set that I want to try and then come up with a name and backstory for that character. -
By running this game without permission from the IP owner the Homecoming team could be sued by the IP owner. That's not likely to happen though because the IP owner has known about Homecoming for years now and said nothing. However, neither you, nor your nephew, can get in any trouble whatsoever for playing this game. If you're in the United States that is. If you're not in the US then I have no idea, you should talk to a lawyer who lives in your country. And, just to clarify a few other things: The Homecoming team uses Firewalls and professional network security software to prevent these from becoming an issue. Also, you'd be downloading the software from the same servers that the games are run on. Short version: it's just not an issue.

Things you enjoy that other people seem to not enjoy
PeregrineFalcon replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
I like the Cake Room. Actually, I've always liked the Cake Room. I get why others don't, I just don't mind it. -
I think that what they did to Energy Transfer when they ported EM to Scrappers shows that they don't want Scrappers to be able to do too much damage, but they want to set that hard ceiling without all of the work to rebalance all of the relevant power sets. So at this point it's obvious that they're either never going to port SS to Scrappers, or they'll do a nerfed version of it without Rage.

I'm sure you're right, but how people know if they're even interested? Is it a PvP event? A treasure hunt? A costume contest? Will we be answering trivia questions or telling "yer mom" jokes? If you're going to advertise an event why is it so difficult to tell people what the event is? Is it a secret or something?
-
If I knew what this event was then I might be interested in participating. The OP tells me nothing about this "huge server event." Perhaps you'd like to explain what this event is?

I never solo with my Defender, so it doesn't help. But yes, I am aware that Vigilance has a damage buff. ALL Tanker secondaries have an AoE. My main is Energy Melee and even it has two AoEs. A lot of people think that the removal of Bruising and the increase to the Tanker damage modifiers and AoE size has made them OP. Personally I'm ok with the change, but then my main is a Tanker not a Brute.

No one in this thread was attacking YOU, or "coming at you with spears and pitchforks for your blasphemy." There's a pinned post in this sub-forum, by a mod, that specifically says that we're allowed to disagree with a suggestion. And so far I haven't really seen anyone attacking your suggestion, mostly people just asking questions about it. Is answering questions too difficult and/or offensive to you? Oh and, welcome to the Suggestions Forum!
-
No, but Vigilance only works for some Defenders. My FF Defender, for example, never gets any benefit from Vigilance, ever. Gauntlet helps all Tankers all the time. It adds an AoE Taunt as well as increases the size of all AoEs. In short Gauntlet helps the Tanker hold aggro on teams and helps them do more damage while solo.

PeregrineFalcon replied to Gerswin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I agree. However, why can't you do both? There's a reason why Grandma's birthday cards are the best! Because they don't just say "I love you" they also have money. No, it's not an appeal to popularity. Mostly I was just being a jerk by pointing out that, while people constantly claim that the CoH community is the best, that's not always the case. Sorry, I need more coffee. And yes, you're right. There's nothing stopping @Gerswin from simply saying in Team Chat, "Welcome to the Team! I'll be accepting tips once we're done. Thanks!" And then also politely remind people at the end of the raid/task force/trial that he's accepting tips, which people can simply email to the raid leader. That's what people do in Guild Wars 2. However, I think the OP wants the legitimacy of an actual UI element to bolster his confidence in asking for said tips in the first place. Personally I don't think this is necessary. Just tell people "Hi all! I run these trials/raids a lot, so I don't have time for much else. I hope you enjoy it. And, if you do, there's nothing wrong with right-clicking on me and sending me an email with a generous tip. Thanks!" -

PeregrineFalcon replied to Gerswin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
So the Guild Wars 2 community can handle giving tips to the raid leader without becoming jerks, but the much vaunted City of Heroes "bestest community EVAR" can't? Why are you on the forums? People could be jerks you know. Why do you play an MMO? People could be jerks you know. Why are you even on the internet at all? People on the internet could be jerks you know. The mantra of "but people could be jerks" can be used against anything. If you're really worried about people being jerks do you ever leave your home? People outside your home could be jerks and we wouldn't want to facilitate that. 🤪 -

PeregrineFalcon replied to Gerswin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Meh. If people are going to be jerks then they're going to be jerks. No excuse is needed. In Guild Wars 2, commanders routinely ask for tips for certain speed runs. I've been on dozens of them. Not once has a commander ever been a jerk to someone if they didn't tip.
