A thank you spotlight - Philotic Knight
PeregrineFalcon replied to Troo's topic in General Discussion
I'd love to have a copy of City of Heroes that I could run on my own computer for myself, and possibly my friends. Unfortunately, I don't have the skills necessary to set that up myself. Peace and long life to you good sir. -
I'd recommend Energy Aura. Between it and War Mace you'll be Strong and Pretty. 😁

Remove Thumbsdown & Confused
PeregrineFalcon replied to Troo's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
Ya know, it's funny that you say that. Cause that's exactly what I used to use this for: But ya'll freaked out about that. So now you want to remove the thumbs down cause your fee-fees might get hurt. Seriously? How long until I'm just not allowed to disagree with anything anyone says?- 43 replies

Focused Feedback: Robotics Revamp
PeregrineFalcon replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I just logged off of the test server. This is my focused feedback. For testing I made a Bots/FF MM at level 50. All SOs, and a couple of Unique IOs. Did some street sweeping on My Island. And a couple of scanner missions. Pulse Rifle Blast, Pulse Rifle Burst, and Photon Grenade - These all fire noticeably faster now. While they don't do much damage, I do like that the regen debuff gives those attacks a purpose besides drawing aggro and trying to get me killed. Maintenance Drone - Huge improvement! However, it is really weird to see what's obviously a decapitated Protector Bot torso flying around. I get that you guys are far more limited on art assets than you are with changing the numbers on powers, but this just looks weird. Maybe use the model from Seeker Drone or Targeting Drone instead? Equip & Upgrade Robot - I like that these powers now have a reason to actually put slots in them. The Bots Themselves - Once again big improvement. They were firing a lot faster and enemies were being knocked down rather than flug all over the place. Also, since the bots weren't running around chasing enemies that they'd just shot down a hallway, the were much easier to control and weren't constantly aggroing other groups. Much like the Sentinel and Mercs upgrades, I'd say this one's definitely a winner. -
Focused Feedback: Force Fields Revamp
PeregrineFalcon replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I just logged off of the test server. This is my focused feedback. Just as a note, I had multiple level 50 FF MMs and level 50 FF Defenders on the retail servers. On the Homecoming servers I have multiple FF MMs and FF Defenders as well. For testing I made a Bots/FF MM at level 50. All SOs, and a couple of Unique IOs. Did some street sweeping on My Island. And a couple of scanner missions. Repulsion Bolt - Like a lot of people I wasn't happy about the increase to the recharge time because my primary use for this power was to get people out of my face. However, since I can now use Repulsion Field 24/7, without it trying to eat my entire endurance bar, I found that it was no longer necessary to use it this way and I could use it mostly for its damage debuff. Dampening Bubble - Unlike Force Bubble, Dampening Bubble is very hard to see. I finally had to turn it on, at night, without Dispersion Bubble on, in order to see it. I don't know why that is. I didn't modify the color of the power in any way. I never had any problem seeing Force Bubble, even with Dispersion Bubble on and other effects from combat. Also, because it's stationary it's hard to use it properly. I'd recommend keeping it centered on the MM during its duration for ease of use. Personal Force Field - Same old power that's still only useful for travel or running off and leaving the rest of your team to die. I'd recommend changing this to an "Oh S**t!!" power by removing the "Only Affecting Self", leaving the defense and damage resistance the same, making it last only 60 seconds, and giving it the same recharge and immunity to recharge buffs as Strength of Will. Overall I really like the change to Repulsion Field. I didn't notice any effect from the damage debuffs in Repulsion Bolt and Repulsion Bomb, but maybe I would have had I fought an AV. I don't know. I'm still on the fence about Dampening Bubble. I'm one of the few people who actually liked and used Force Bubble though. And I wasn't able to notice any effect from its debuff protection. Whereas I was able to notice and effectively use Force Bubble for area denial. I admit though that it was only useful in certain circumstances and the debuffs and protection from debuffs may be exactly what FF needs. -
That post is from 3 years ago. Sorry, you don't get to just point to that post forever and be like, "See, they posted a roadmap!" Yes, they sure did. It's out of date. What's unreasonable about asking for an update? Look, an updated roadmap, or plan for the future, or dev blog, or whatever you want to call it would be beneficial for all of us. That being the case, why are so many of you against it?

City Mod Installer (Released)
PeregrineFalcon replied to Michiyo's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
Thank you for doing this, Michiyo. -
Ghostbusters reference. "There is no Dana, only Zuul." Agreed. That's why I'm asking that the devs post something like a Roadmap, or something about their POV on the game and what things they're considering working on. Just something to let us know how they see things and how they'd like to move the game forward. Yes, yes. It's their server and they're volunteers and I'm just a pleb who isn't entitled to anything. And I'm not even disagreeing with that! I'm not asking to have any kind of say or input into decisions. Just a bit of info on their point of view and why some decisions have been made.
-
I disagree. The key to making it work would be to pick someone who's well known for being critical of the devs, not someone who's seen as a "white knight for the developers."
-
And again with the insults. I wasn't lying. It was simply a hypothetical example that I threw together quickly, and yes, not a perfect one. And yes, "disingenuous" is just a fancy way of calling me a liar. Well, I'll grant you that a lot, perhaps even most of the things in pages 4 & 5 are. I don't recall anyone asking for -def to be added to Fiery Melee attacks, but I'm nitpicking. You're mostly right. Most of the stuff in the last 2 pages is stuff we asked for. It just took longer to bring it to the live servers that we thought it would. This lead a lot of us to believe that we were being ignored when asked for things. Something that could have been solved with one simple post from a developer that said, "We're working on Mercs MMs and these other things." See, notice how I was able to disagree with you without implying that you're lying, or being "disingenuous"? And this is exactly why the occasional developer "road map", or blog or, whatever you want to call it would be a good idea. It would actually go a long ways toward preventing a lot of people from posting the kinds of things that you, and the moderators, find... distasteful.
-
Complaints about feedback being ignored have nothing to do with "getting my own way." Nice of you to dismiss the people you disagree with as being that immature. Now try it like this: Player 1: "Why are we doing this when a bunch of players on the forums have said they want the other thing instead." Staff (Dev/GM/PR Rep/Whatever): "We considered the other thing, but we think the other thing could cause problems, and we believe that this change will be better for the game for this reason." I still didn't get my way, but feedback was clearly not ignored. See this difference between my hypothetical example above and what happens in the forums currently?
-
Oh, Lumi. It's not bad enough that you're ascribing a bunch of attitudes and motivations to me that simply aren't true, but now you're giving a dev grief for wanting to NOT be a jerk to the player base? 🤪
-
I would like to respectfully request you to consider the possibility that there's a reason that people are making that assumption, instead of just assuming that we're being immature, or trolls, or whatever. And for my part I apologize if anything I say offended. In my defense I'll say only that I'm getting really tired of seeing people being attacked on this forum for every single statement that isn't straight up "we love the devs."
-
So my being unhappy with a developer scolding a player the way one scolds a small child, while also claiming that they don't have time to do so, while also blaming the player-base as a whole for "this is why we can't have nice things", and my unhappy reaction to that is ego-tripping, self-absorbed nonsense? Really, Luminara? Really?
-
So many demands on your time, but you had plenty of time to jump into this thread and scold a player. No. Your obvious disdain for the people who donate money to keep this server running is.

Change name of Beta: Focused Feedback
PeregrineFalcon replied to Troo's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
As a possible addition to your suggestion. Allow for one post per player. Just one. They can edit said post with their testing results and reactions to points brought up, but overall it should have the effect of making the threads a lot shorter and easier for the devs to read. -
The tragedy of the Brute Fury nerf. A timeless lament
PeregrineFalcon replied to Snarky's topic in Brute
Oh, c'mon man! Now you're just trying to get me in trouble. You know darn well I can't respond to that without getting another involuntary forum vacation. -
The tragedy of the Brute Fury nerf. A timeless lament
PeregrineFalcon replied to Snarky's topic in Brute
You know, I don't usually agree with Snarky. But when I do it's because he's right. Here's another example: The IO system. What's the easiest thing to get using set IOs? Defense. You know what's really hard to get with set IOs? A noticeable increase in damage output. So Blasters (and other squishies) can increase their durability to at least Scrapper levels, but can a Tanker increase their damage output to Scrapper levels? Nope. It's almost like the entire IO system was deliberately designed to allow squishies to increase their durability but to prevent anyone from challenging Blaster's and Scrapper's damage output. -
The exception to the rule. Every rule has them. Yeah. People been doing that for 30 years now. Welcome to the Internets. The only way to stop that, at least in the feedback threads, would be to delete ALL forum posts that aren't "I tested it and here are my results." And then that's it. You get ONE post in the thread. Period. ONE. But the problem with that is, if it was actually enforced equally, that the members of the Dev Defense League would have their posts deleted too. And then they'd lose their &$&^*(!!! And the mods don't want to have to deal with that.

Yes, Jimmy. We know.

I don't know. It seems to me that there's only 2 groups of people that have an issue with Page 5. Fire farmers are big mad because Page 5 makes fire farming slightly more difficult. Others are upset because they see the powers changes as yet more power creep. That's pretty much it as far as I've seen. Did I miss anyone?

This sounds like a great idea! However, what the devs ended up doing with it seems better, IMNSHO. What do you guys think ?
