Changes to Fly, Hover, Afterburner, etc.
PeregrineFalcon replied to Sonarr's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I understood the devs desire to make Power Pool travel powers better than Temp travel powers. What I never understood was the desire, or even the reasoning, behind all of the other changes. How is being able to run Hover and Fly at the same time an improvement? Exactly what goal does this change accomplish? Don't know? Well, neither do I. And frankly, I suspect that most of the devs don't know either. I flat out asked several of them what these changes were supposed to accomplish and... crickets. -
Warning, my opinion incoming: Thank you for leading in-game events like this. This is part of what makes this game fun. Sometimes people are going to miss the line about tells. Even smart and well-intentioned people make mistakes sometimes. However, your team, your rules. Don't bother even explaining yourself to the self-entitled folks who believe that the rules don't apply to them. When you're being a leader you're going to get some bad along with the good. That's just an immutable law of the universe. But it's not as bad as you probably think. You lead these events a lot and how many people are an issue? 1 out of every 30 or 40? That's not a bad percentage. That means that most people are reasonable.

You must be starting these later. I actually made it this time. Yay! 😁

None of the current consumer protection laws governs video games or the video gaming industry. That's the reason why video game companies are able to repeatedly lie to us about the features available in their game and why they're able to get away with selling a broken product. If a car dealership (in the US) knowingly sold broken cars they'd get shut down and put out of business, but for EA selling broken product is a daily thing. All a company has to do to protect themselves is place a line that they can and will talk about moderator action, at their discretion, into their terms of service and they're covered. They don't really have to do that even. Libel laws do protect you sure, but they don't protect you from the truth, and they don't apply to fictitious names like user names or game handles.

I have to agree with laudwic on this one. Look, I realize that you're just following the rules, and that you didn't write those rules, so I'm not attacking you. I'm simply commenting on the rules. Shortly after Guild Wars 2 launched a player posted on Reddit that he'd been banned from GW2 for no reason at all. He made up a bunch of stuff and basically did his best to paint ArenaNet in a bad light. Then a moderator, Gail Gray IIRC, posted in the thread that he'd actually been banned for spouting racist nonsense and included screenshots of his in-game chat to prove it. Needless to say this had a positive effect on how people viewed ArenaNet and Guild Wars 2. And when I play Seige I regularly see things like "Battle Eye has banned xXxRacistNamexXx." The point being that some game companies choose to make their moderation public and it has the positive effect of letting people know that people are actually getting banned and it makes people less likely to want to do something that will get them banned. So there's no reason why The Council of 13 can't discuss moderation and/or disclose outcomes, they simply choose not to. They could, and it might actually be a good thing if they did.

If City of Heroes were remade entirely today...
PeregrineFalcon replied to Thrythlind's topic in General Discussion
1) Age of Conan is based on a series, and a genre, that are "adult." City of Heroes is based on American Four Color Comics which, if not always strictly for children, were always at least "family friendly." Apple/orange. 2) The GAME is family friendly. People playing it may not be, but that was not what I was talking about, and you know it. 3) I agree with you that desperate people who are ERPing in game, because they're too cowardly to just approach someone in the real world, shouldn't get upset when you ask them to take it to a private channel. I also agree that the Homecoming administration should do something about that, but I suspect they may not have much in the way of manpower. 4) Look, I get that you're still sore at me because your attempt to paint me as a founding member of the Fifth Column didn't work out so well for you, but deliberately straw-manning my arguments is beneath you. You're smarter than that. You can disagree with my actual arguments, instead of deliberately mischaracterizing my statements and making inherently wrong comparisons. -

While I do like the "archetype and two kits", as you called it, I'd like to see less classes with more crossover. So my melee character could take the Tank/Brute/Scrapper ability specializations. Combine this with multiple builds and I can use my favorite character in multiple scenarios. If I'm soloing I could just 'click' and set my Scrapper build. When my friends log on I could then switch to my Tank build and tank for the team. If they already have a Tank I could either stick with my Scrapper build or switch to my Brute build and off-tank if needed. Same thing with other characters. I could either go full Defender on a team or switch to Corruptor when I'm solo or on a small team. Of course I'd also like to see a huge rework of the mez system for the new game. -
My main is an Invuln/EM Tanker, American Dream Girl. First on Freedom and now on Torchbearer. She was never supposed to be my main. She was just a character that I made one day. I had a fun theme in mind and an AT/powerset combo I wanted to try out just to see what it was like. I never had a main, just a bunch of different characters that I played. Never mind that I eventually spent more time playing this character than all of my other characters combined. I even made a bunch of other characters trying to find an AT/powerset combo that I would like so that I would stop spending so much time on this one character. Years after The Snap, I logged in to Homecoming for the first time and they had one server: Bree. Without even thinking about it I started recreating my Invuln/EM Tank in the character creator, old screenshot of her costume on my other screen. That's when I realized that she was my main.

You are absolutely correct about that and I agree. However, it doesn't matter what we think, it matters what society at large thinks. There is still a large majority of the planet that thinks that seeing a female nipple will somehow harm children and cause their society to collapse. As for you saying something that the mods will regret, feel free. I've had drill instructors yell at me. Nothing that you can say is going to make me bat an eye. And at this point I probably deserve it for something that I've said or done anyway. -

PeregrineFalcon replied to Thrythlind's topic in General Discussion
This is just silly. There's way too much of this that's freely available on the internet for the devs to remove the family friendly rating of City of Heroes. Want to see more of this? Just do a google search. -
OH MY DAYS HELLO AND THANK YOU
PeregrineFalcon replied to WhiteGuardian's topic in General Discussion
On a related note. This is one of the things about Homecoming that bothers me. There are so many people out there who love City of Heroes and would love to play again, but who do not know that these servers even exist. I wish that I could figure out a way to get the word out to all of the former CoH players. Not to benefit me, or Homecoming, but so they will at least have the choice to play CoH again. -
I'm pretty sure that the technical term is "troll."
-
What's your SG's name, and which server are you on? Asking for a friend.
-
Look at his screenshot carefully. It's from a server other than Homecoming.

OH MY DAYS HELLO AND THANK YOU
PeregrineFalcon replied to WhiteGuardian's topic in General Discussion
Welcome home, WhiteGuardian! Just so you know, the vet rewards you used to have can be recovered from the P2W vendor near the Atlas statute in Atlas Park. If you get all of the explore badges in Atlas Park (or any zone really) it unlocks a long range teleporter and a special macro that will let you use all of your teleports (base porter, mission porter, etc.) Base items no longer cost prestige. So feel free to make your own SG and then build yourself a base with all of the things. Travel powers are now accessible at level 4, and there are new power pools. Typing /ah into chat will allow you to access the player market anywhere except in missions or bases. There's a Looking for Group channel that you should use if you want to quickly find a team. There's a Help channel in game if you have questions. I think I covered pretty much everything. Feel free to ask more questions though. -
Ghost! Will you stop getting our threads locked! We're trying to have important conversations here!!! 😁
-
I'm not sure that this would be a problem as we already have an official player rating system in game. The note system allows you to place stars over peoples' heads that are always viewable. Whenever I fly around Atlas Park a large portion of the people that I see already have stars over their heads because I've taken the time to rate people that I've teamed with.

Nice set. It reminds me of "Killer Klowns from Outer Space." 🙂 Yes. The Homecoming developers have implemented a pull that is not a knock forward, but a reverse of repel. I'm sure that would work. The best way to stop 8 ) from becoming a smiley is to use the outline function and let it add the numbers to your post.

"Fun" is a Four-Letter Word
PeregrineFalcon replied to GraspingVileTerror's topic in General Discussion
It's easy for me to tell when I'm having fun. If I'm relaxed, and I want to keep on doing what I'm doing, then I'm having fun. It's just that simple. I guess that's one of the advantages of being the few people on the internet who doesn't suffer from some form of mental illness. In the case of City of Heroes, I don't actually play that often anymore. Sometimes I'll log in and just play a single alignment or scanner mission. Weeks will go by between log-ins. But even when I'm not playing it feels comforting to know that I can. Like I can always visit an old friend. -
I know what you mean. I was always the youngest in the family, the trouble-maker. Now I'm living in the future, my hair's grey, and I'm starting to understand the attitude my grandfather had toward certain things.
-
A couple of months ago I was leading a TF and I kicked someone who had joined the team but then didn't enter the missions. He just sat there, apparently AFK, and I asked him if he was planning on joining us. No response. So, once the mission ended, I kicked him. Did he break the Homecomings' rules? Nope. But he broke my rule, which is: "Everyone fights. No one quits." So I kicked him from the team. Report me.

American Association of Retired Persons. Is Google also not a thing in your country? 😃
-
I'm sorry, but literally everything you've written here is simply not true. Telling people you'll kick them is not against the written rules in this, or any other, MMO. In this MMO, both on live and here on HC, and in other MMOs, I've told people flat out to stop their shenanigans or they'll be kicked and then I've kicked them. I've never so much as been contacted by a GM much less banned. Kicking someone from a team is NOT harassment. Harassment requires a pattern of behavior that is outside of the norm. Leaders kicking people from a team is part of the norm. It's literally the reason why the devs put a KICK button in the team UI. I don't know why you got banned years ago but I guarantee it wasn't for kicking someone from your team.

500+ vet levels on a forcefield defender (no AE badges)
PeregrineFalcon replied to nethod's topic in Defender
I love it! So much so that I have to remember to watch for the bubbles dropping and remember to reapply them. It's especially great when there's at least one other Beam Rifle on the team as we can spread each others' disintegration for a ton of AoE goodness. I don't have a fully IO'd out version yet, so I don't know just how fast Disintegrate recharges with Hasten and/or LoGs. I'm planning on finding out though. So many alts... -
Determining if the Game is Too Easy
PeregrineFalcon replied to Monos King's topic in General Discussion
I play left hand on WASD, right hand on mouse. I always thought that was the norm. Also, I usually do jump over the enemies and then attack them, this way their cones are facing away from the rest of my team. Then again, I usually play a tank. You're right though. I seldom move much more than that unless I'm trying to set up my own cones, or on my blaster trying to get away from an enemy that's determined to get into melee range with me.
