  1. Time for a funny anecdote that is guaranteed to make someone hate me! 🙂 A rule that I developed on the Retail servers, before The Snap, is to never invite Controllers or Dominators that I don't know to a PuG. Never. Never, ever, ever. The few times I've violated that rule, almost always by accident, I've been reminded why I created that rule in the first place. I'm usually on a tank when I'm PuGing and PuG controllers will inevitably fire off their AoE immobs before I get the mobs locked around my Invuln tank. Which means that my defense is lower and I can't hold all of the aggro. And then they fire at the controller, drop him, and then the controller gets mad that I wasn't able to keep the aggro off of them. And then, before I can finish typing my response explaining why they are problem, they quit the team. But I'm not bitter about it or anything. No, not me! &$%@( idiot controllers.
  2. Normally I'd be the first person to agree with you on this. However, it was a single throw away line, said just once, and it wasn't even clear if they were being serious or just joking. Anyway, I didn't even know about this movie until I saw this thread. My teenagers and I, all gamers, went and saw it, and we loved it. So thank you @GraspingVileTerror for letting me know that this movie existed. I heartily recommend this movie to gamers everywhere!
  3. Paragon Studios had recently folded and Matt was looking for a job. I suspect that fact trumped all other considerations for him. That being said, he did excellent work on the KDF story line. In my opinion it's the best story in the game, thanks to Positron.
  4. Fun fact. Matt Miller, aka Positron, wrote the Klingon story missions that launched with Legacy of Romulus. They finally hired him back in order to write the Klingon story missions after spending years lying to us on the forums telling us that they were working on Klingon content when they weren't.
  5. Yes. We're all well aware of this. We've all read the F.A.Q., and we've all read the recent post by the GM confirming this. However, this is the suggestions forum and someone made a suggestion. And we're talking about it because we want to. But thanks for pointing out what we all already knew. Take care. 😉
  6. Why? He's right. Look, I'm about the most pro-capitalist, anti-communist person you'll ever meet, but even I think that allowing people to get paid for name-camping is just going to make the situation worse. It's a known fact that paying people to do a thing causes more people to do that thing more often. The entire point behind this thread is to find a way to free up names so that people can get the names that they want. Allowing people to sell names on the auction house is guaranteed to cause a ton of people to log in right now and immediately create hundreds of characters on all of the servers, thus exacerbating this problem immensely. Why are you sorry that this will not happen?
  7. I think that this thread is more important than a lot of people realize. As Tahliah basically said, a leader has to learn to lead and, if they end up doing it wrong enough times then they're just ignored and unable to form a team and they don't know why. I think more people than just the OP have learned what some of the players think of various leadership styles and options. New info is always good. Personally I'd rather a leader be rude and effective and nice and we end up failing the mission. The drill sergeant leadership method usually works, when the drill sergeant knows what he's doing, and personally I'm not thin-skinned enough to cry in the middle of a Rikti Mothership Raid just because someone refused to respond to a tell I sent, or didn't respond in a way that I was expecting.
  8. It should be, but isn't necessarily. You see, a ton of people logged into this game, back in April 2019, saw that there were a thousand free character slots and proceeded to create 857 place-holder/name-camper characters. Per server. The last suggestion thread about character names suggested that the player should have to log in with each individual character in order to hold onto the name. Needless to say the flames in response to that suggestion were epic! The name-campers hated the idea of having to log in to all of those characters almost as much as they hate the idea of allowing those names to be released so that you can use them.
  9. Agreed. But they haven't even logged in in over 2 years then they clearly didn't care much about Batmanuel and his incredible mythos.
  10. The four color comics super hero genre has never allowed female nipples to be shown. City of Heroes currently adheres to the tropes of the four color comic super hero genre. I'd prefer that it continue to do so. Too many people around the world are still convinced that the sight of a female nipple will damage children's minds and/or cause society to collapse. If you really feel the need to advocate against this then I would like to respectfully recommend trying to change peoples' positions where it actually matters, in real life, not in a rogue server for a 17 year-old video game played by less than .00000000001% of the world's population.
  11. I don't often agree with Snarky, but when I do it's because he's right. If someone hasn't logged in for 2 years then their names, regardless of character level, should be freed up. Actually the best solution would be for names to no longer be exclusive, but that would probably require more work on the part of the devs. And again I'd like to ask people to stop using our servicemen to justify their desire to name camp. When I was deployed the last thing that I was concerned about was the name of a character in a video game, and I can guarantee you that that's the least of someone's worries if they're being deployed to somewhere where they will not have internet access.
  12. You are correct, sir. I did, in fact, misunderstand which form of the word that you were referring to. My mistake. The version used in that screenshot is a misspelling.
  13. Right. And since CoH was developed in America, by Americans, it's not a typo.
  14. It's not misspelled. Judgement is Queen's English and judgment is American English.
  15. Ok, fair enough. I see your point. What I really don't want to see, however, is the devs spending a bunch of time coding in some kinda thing that shows people when you're streaming, instead of spending time on power sets or content or whatever. The other thing that puzzled me was people that seemed to be having some real serious issues with the mere thought that their character would appear on someone's video. That's why I said what I said (which got deleted so I won't repeat it). I actually wasn't trying to insult people with what I said, but whatever. Maybe I just misunderstood the severity of their concerns.
  16. Really? You know that for a fact do you, Counselor? People have been imprisoned for online gambling. The law isn't what YOU think it is. The law is what other people decide it is. Not only do you not understand state laws, but you clearly don't understand US Federal laws. And then there's the laws of a 190+ other countries to consider.
  17. You really think that? You know who else probably thought that? Police Chief Wilie Lovett. Former Savannah police chief Willie Lovett to be released from federal prison "...was convicted and sentenced to 7.5 years behind bars..." And it isn't just the US Federal Government that has a hate-on for gambling. A little googling will show you a list of people around the world who have received lengthy prison sentences for gambling. Still think it doesn't matter?
  18. 1) When you outdoors, in a public setting, you have no expectation of privacy. You should expect that people will see you and that nearly all of those people will have cell phones, and that some of those people will take pictures or videos that you might appear in. That's life. 2) Being online, whether it's Twitter or an MMO, is being "in public" on the internet. Nothing that you say or do is private and you should expect that people will record, or screenshot, anything that you say or do. 3) In short, privacy is not an issue when you've made the deliberate choice to be in a non-private setting. 4) The reason that I ask why is this an issue all of a sudden is because I didn't see this thread back in 2019, when Homecoming first came online. I tend to think that if this was really an issue someone would have brought it up then.
  19. Please explain what exactly a streamer is "doing to others." If I'm streaming (I don't) and your character just happens to run past, and appears on my stream for a few seconds, what specifically does that do to you, or others? Also, game streaming has been a thing for 20 years now. Why has this suddenly become an issue now?
  20. It is my belief that this game should maintain its "family friendly rating."
  21. You're right. I do now remember them specifically saying that they wanted people to be able to stack the effects. I'm still not sure that I agree with the decision. I agree with Bill that I preferred Overdrive when it was a toggle that I could keep on as long as I wanted to. But, ultimately, it's such minor change that I guess it doesn't really matter.
  22. Sorry, I should have been more clear in that post. Stacking the two powers is an improvement, for that character. It's not necessarily an improvement to the game. One, our characters are already powerful enough as is. Two, there's something to be said for having to make a choice. In this case making a choice between speed and fine control and defense. But improvement or not, I don't see the problem that this change was meant to address. I don't have any problem with change nor do I have a problem with this change. None of my characters have Hover. I just don't believe that change, just for the sake of change, is a good thing. And I just wish that the devs would have explained their reasoning behind this change to us.
  23. I understood the devs desire to make Power Pool travel powers better than Temp travel powers. What I never understood was the desire, or even the reasoning, behind all of the other changes. How is being able to run Hover and Fly at the same time an improvement? Exactly what goal does this change accomplish? Don't know? Well, neither do I. And frankly, I suspect that most of the devs don't know either. I flat out asked several of them what these changes were supposed to accomplish and... crickets.
  24. Warning, my opinion incoming: Thank you for leading in-game events like this. This is part of what makes this game fun. Sometimes people are going to miss the line about tells. Even smart and well-intentioned people make mistakes sometimes. However, your team, your rules. Don't bother even explaining yourself to the self-entitled folks who believe that the rules don't apply to them. When you're being a leader you're going to get some bad along with the good. That's just an immutable law of the universe. But it's not as bad as you probably think. You lead these events a lot and how many people are an issue? 1 out of every 30 or 40? That's not a bad percentage. That means that most people are reasonable.
  25. You must be starting these later. I actually made it this time. Yay! 😁
