MassivelyOP Article on City of Heroes 2
PeregrineFalcon replied to Apparition's topic in General Discussion
I don't know if this is directed specifically at me, but I'm going to respond to it. I don't "denigrate the poor." I simply read and recite the statistics. Personally, I'd like to see a situation in which there are better education and training opportunities for the poor so that they can lift themselves out of poverty and not so readily see committing crimes as a viable alternative. It's one of the reasons why I'm so critical of the public school system in America. Simply speaking the truth isn't insulting or denigrating anyone. When I say "water is wet" that's simply a true statement, no matter who is offended by it. And I'm not in any way saying that rich people don't commit crimes, or that they don't use their wealth and/or influence to cover up said crimes. You're reading words into my statement that I never wrote if you though that's what I was saying. Personally, I think that the rich and/or powerful should have higher mandatory minimum sentences when they do get convicted of any crime than poor people do. First, because they have far less excuse to commit crimes and, second, because it would cause them to be a little bit more concerned about the consequences than they currently are. -

MassivelyOP Article on City of Heroes 2
PeregrineFalcon replied to Apparition's topic in General Discussion
This is absolutely untrue. Statistical work from criminologists has proven that poor people are far more likely to commit crimes than rich people. Part of it is from wanting money and part of it stems from the same mindset that keeps them poor in the first place. The poor are statistically far more likely to commit violent crimes in addition to being more likely to steal money or resources. It's just that when the rich do commit crimes it's far more likely to make it into the news. -
Besides Stone, What's the Most Durable Tanker Primary?
PeregrineFalcon replied to 00Troy00's topic in Tanker
CoH is the only MMO I've ever played that lets me do this. I had a really hard time getting used to melee combat in other MMOs because I had to close range manually. I use 'V' for target nearest enemy. I've used this key for so long that I don't remember why though. And am I misremembering or did you complain about Hover not closing to melee range on the retail forums? -

OMG Bill. I suddenly had flashbacks to your posts on the retail forums... -
I'd pay good money to be able to download the current version of Homecoming's server software and simply click install and have it run without needing to have lots of technical skills.

I think that I've mentioned before that I have a Force Field / Beam Rifle Defender on each of the servers. They're a ton of fun to play. First I bubble everyone, then I run around acting like a blaster for 2 minutes. Occasionally I'll use Aid Other on someone, but that's pretty rare. Is Force Field the best set in the game? No. Would I be ok if it got buffed? Sure. But is it the boring set that no one wants on their team the way it's being portrayed in this thread? Absolutely not.

Bree, the editor-in-chief of Massively OP, recently said that she knows at least some of Homecoming's developers and that she knows they are people that do/did work as game developers. I even started a thread about it awhile back. People freaked out because they thought that I was trying to out/dox the devs, which I wasn't trying to do. In that thread I even linked to the MOP article where Bree said this. The way people were acting I suspect that at least some of those accounts that attacked me are the devs' own personal accounts. And, needless to say, even though my thread violated none of the forum rules it got locked. Because the devs don't want people discussing this subject. They seem to forget that this information isn't a secret. The internet never forgets. Screenshot my post and look for it next week. Even money it's gone.

Neiska, may I respectfully suggest that you stop inviting 13 year-olds to your D&D game? Yes. What you're describing has been a problem for DM's, and roleplayers, since the 80's when 13 year-olds first discovered D&D (and other RPG's) and began using them to play out their power fantasies. The best way to deal with a situation like this isn't to complain about it on the forum, it's to just stop allowing that person into your roleplay group. Don't bother trying to explain anything to them, just avoid the drama and avoid them. (P.S. Mods, once my post gets reported, don't waste my time claiming that I'm insulting anyone with this post. Claiming that children are immature isn't an insult, it's a known fact. Saying that a child is immature is like saying water's wet. If you're going to ban me please at least come up with a believable reason.)

Here's my suggestions, for whatever that's worth. You could try some of the less optimal powersets and/or AT's. Not every Scrapper needs to be TW/Bio or EM/Shield. Try something different. It might actually be fun. Play the game for the stories. Actually read the text. If you like playing AE then find some good AE story missions. Create one of those awesome story missions in the AE. Lead task forces and/or incarnate trials. You think playing the game is easy? Try herding people through a Rikti Mothership Raid. That's a bit of a challenge. Do what a lot of people do and spend your time on the forums trying to convince the devs to nerf the players and/or buff the enemies in some form or other. It seems to be a very popular pastime for people with your outlook. Work on updating the wiki. TL;DR: There's tons of other, non-repetitive stuff, that you can do with this game.

Time for a funny anecdote that is guaranteed to make someone hate me! 🙂 A rule that I developed on the Retail servers, before The Snap, is to never invite Controllers or Dominators that I don't know to a PuG. Never. Never, ever, ever. The few times I've violated that rule, almost always by accident, I've been reminded why I created that rule in the first place. I'm usually on a tank when I'm PuGing and PuG controllers will inevitably fire off their AoE immobs before I get the mobs locked around my Invuln tank. Which means that my defense is lower and I can't hold all of the aggro. And then they fire at the controller, drop him, and then the controller gets mad that I wasn't able to keep the aggro off of them. And then, before I can finish typing my response explaining why they are problem, they quit the team. But I'm not bitter about it or anything. No, not me! &$%@( idiot controllers.

Normally I'd be the first person to agree with you on this. However, it was a single throw away line, said just once, and it wasn't even clear if they were being serious or just joking. Anyway, I didn't even know about this movie until I saw this thread. My teenagers and I, all gamers, went and saw it, and we loved it. So thank you @GraspingVileTerror for letting me know that this movie existed. I heartily recommend this movie to gamers everywhere!

Paragon Studios had recently folded and Matt was looking for a job. I suspect that fact trumped all other considerations for him. That being said, he did excellent work on the KDF story line. In my opinion it's the best story in the game, thanks to Positron.
-
Fun fact. Matt Miller, aka Positron, wrote the Klingon story missions that launched with Legacy of Romulus. They finally hired him back in order to write the Klingon story missions after spending years lying to us on the forums telling us that they were working on Klingon content when they weren't.

Yes. We're all well aware of this. We've all read the F.A.Q., and we've all read the recent post by the GM confirming this. However, this is the suggestions forum and someone made a suggestion. And we're talking about it because we want to. But thanks for pointing out what we all already knew. Take care. 😉

Why? He's right. Look, I'm about the most pro-capitalist, anti-communist person you'll ever meet, but even I think that allowing people to get paid for name-camping is just going to make the situation worse. It's a known fact that paying people to do a thing causes more people to do that thing more often. The entire point behind this thread is to find a way to free up names so that people can get the names that they want. Allowing people to sell names on the auction house is guaranteed to cause a ton of people to log in right now and immediately create hundreds of characters on all of the servers, thus exacerbating this problem immensely. Why are you sorry that this will not happen?
-
I think that this thread is more important than a lot of people realize. As Tahliah basically said, a leader has to learn to lead and, if they end up doing it wrong enough times then they're just ignored and unable to form a team and they don't know why. I think more people than just the OP have learned what some of the players think of various leadership styles and options. New info is always good. Personally I'd rather a leader be rude and effective and nice and we end up failing the mission. The drill sergeant leadership method usually works, when the drill sergeant knows what he's doing, and personally I'm not thin-skinned enough to cry in the middle of a Rikti Mothership Raid just because someone refused to respond to a tell I sent, or didn't respond in a way that I was expecting.
-
It should be, but isn't necessarily. You see, a ton of people logged into this game, back in April 2019, saw that there were a thousand free character slots and proceeded to create 857 place-holder/name-camper characters. Per server. The last suggestion thread about character names suggested that the player should have to log in with each individual character in order to hold onto the name. Needless to say the flames in response to that suggestion were epic! The name-campers hated the idea of having to log in to all of those characters almost as much as they hate the idea of allowing those names to be released so that you can use them.
-
Agreed. But they haven't even logged in in over 2 years then they clearly didn't care much about Batmanuel and his incredible mythos.

The four color comics super hero genre has never allowed female nipples to be shown. City of Heroes currently adheres to the tropes of the four color comic super hero genre. I'd prefer that it continue to do so. Too many people around the world are still convinced that the sight of a female nipple will damage children's minds and/or cause society to collapse. If you really feel the need to advocate against this then I would like to respectfully recommend trying to change peoples' positions where it actually matters, in real life, not in a rogue server for a 17 year-old video game played by less than .00000000001% of the world's population.
-
I don't often agree with Snarky, but when I do it's because he's right. If someone hasn't logged in for 2 years then their names, regardless of character level, should be freed up. Actually the best solution would be for names to no longer be exclusive, but that would probably require more work on the part of the devs. And again I'd like to ask people to stop using our servicemen to justify their desire to name camp. When I was deployed the last thing that I was concerned about was the name of a character in a video game, and I can guarantee you that that's the least of someone's worries if they're being deployed to somewhere where they will not have internet access.
-
You are correct, sir. I did, in fact, misunderstand which form of the word that you were referring to. My mistake. The version used in that screenshot is a misspelling.
-
Right. And since CoH was developed in America, by Americans, it's not a typo.
-
It's not misspelled. Judgement is Queen's English and judgment is American English.

Homecoming Code of Conduct Update - May 13th, 2021
PeregrineFalcon replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
Ok, fair enough. I see your point. What I really don't want to see, however, is the devs spending a bunch of time coding in some kinda thing that shows people when you're streaming, instead of spending time on power sets or content or whatever. The other thing that puzzled me was people that seemed to be having some real serious issues with the mere thought that their character would appear on someone's video. That's why I said what I said (which got deleted so I won't repeat it). I actually wasn't trying to insult people with what I said, but whatever. Maybe I just misunderstood the severity of their concerns.
