^ What the Snarky one said. And that pick and choose your battles is why I'd have Stealth on any character no matter the AT. It's also one of the reasons I might have and use a Taunt on a Brute. Get behind the mob(s) in that crowded intersection, pull them out, getting their interest and then you and the team tear them to shreds without drawing extra aggro/adds that sure I can survive but maybe others won't. So does a Brute require Stealthiness. No And do they require Taunt. Again no. Are they both useful. Potentially yes, depending on playstyle and preference.

Inherent powers do not require the player to pick them. The Fitness pool (Swift, Hurdle, Health, Stamina) are all powers that you receive automatically when you attain level 2. All characters also receive an Origin specific power at level 1. And each Archetype has a power they receive at level 1. For Brutes that's Fury. Brutes also have an unofficially named lesser form of Gauntlet often called Punch-voke which generates extra threat (aggro) but isn't considered a power per se. And there are various P2W powers for purchase.

My first reaction was no thanks I like the visual cue. But on thinking about it further I'd be fine with it, especially with toggles. I'm not recasting toggles, I turn them on and mostly forget about other than occasionally noting "Ooo, 6 Maneuvers showing in the team window". The effects I'm more concerned about are click buffs and again I'm usually watching icons in the team ui. I've gone chunks of whole fights barely seeing anything but the team ui while on my Empath. Especially in that situation seeing the graphic is often close to impossible anyway.

If you had to tank DA missions on +4/8...
Doomguide2005 replied to Crowcus Pocus's topic in Defender
I think pretty much any/any defender can do it. Some will just require more effort to get them there. After all the AT has the strongest buffs and debuffs in the game. But after teaming with @Linea's Emp/Fire/Soul and watching it tank and destroy mobs at +4/×8 in the AE 801 series and knowing that character also solo'd the ITF I'm pretty convinced that saying any/any is utterly accurate considering neither Empathy or Fire is noted for their debuffing Regen or Resistance ability. So grab the oddest duck pairing you can find and have at it. Edit: As of one year ago (last reported) there were 4 defender pairings not yet to 50+. Cold/AR Sonic/AR Traps/Psy TA/Rad TA/Rad I'd bet can put up some damage between TA updates and Rad blasts proc potential. While Cold/AR is odd but could be awesome with AR's changes I'm thinking. Sleet+Heat Loss+/-Snow Storm then Ignite on the slowly fleeing mobs sounds fun. -
Just be careful sometimes +Defense (All) isn't in fact "All". See the HCwiki article about "Defense".
-
Like with a lot of things there's truth I both positions. Some maps avoiding is difficult if not all but impossible (think ITF between boss and ambush in caves, have fun with that). On the other hand you knocked 😜 rather aggro'd the mob you own it philosophy.

As to lack of DDR I don't see it mentioned the way I used to on Live, but seems like folks are getting stuck on hitting 45 and stopping as that will minimize the first chance of being hit (1 in 20, acc mods aside). Great, but depending on build choices grab a bit more defense to buffer against that first debuff and those chances go to 1 in 400 (1 in 20 * 1 in 20). Buys time to pop a luck or get out of dodge stopping the cascade before it happens.

Hmm well do to my own computer issues ... but iirc there's a space at the bottom to check the name accessible at the start of creation without even creating anything. So with some paper scribbling you can check each name in order of server preference. Who knows, maybe it won't be an issue. I only had "trouble" with one and I knew I probably would it had trouble on Live. But I just added her family name and it took.
-
I was thinking more along the lines that it makes it easier upon finding which servers your names are already taken to relocate them until as many as possible (hopefully all if desired) to a common server. It used to be much harder to move characters between servers than it is on HC.
-
A small (or maybe not so small) PS to trying names on different servers. It's very, very easy to move between servers. Everlasting and Excelsior have the largest populations. And good luck filling any server up with characters. The HC team have ensured that those most riddled with the worst cases of altitis have plenty of room. There's a 1000 character slots per server (yes you read that right a 1 followed by 3 zeroes). Plenty of room for 11 favorites plus room for many, many more to join them.

Hell I felt that way when I zoned into Atlas Park on Paragon Chat the first time. But loading into the log in screen, then the character creator and finally into Atlas Park ... and seeing other characters moving around, mobs! hearing the familiar sounds, seeing chat channels full of chat. Yeah screen got real blurry. And then came the rediscovering things so familiar but not quite recalled. Where was the portal to Oroborous, how to change my chat tabs around and rebind keys. What the heck is a DFB and why are all these folks hanging around near Ms Liberty but not actually interacting with her and what is an Amplifier. Attuned and catalysts, what are they? Okay not forgotten but after I was forced off Live by a different computer death prior to Sunset so new stuff! Night Ward and First Ward I'd seen once so more new stuff!! Good thing the game is still friendly to hopping on for 15 minutes or 15 hours. 😃

Thanks but it was actually @Tyrannicalthat pointed it out initially. I just ran with it.

Possible ways to help support classes
Doomguide2005 replied to Wavicle's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Largely depends on builds, other abilities, and team composition. I'd say in general teams of support (especially size 4+) do it safer, not necessarily faster particularly if we're not talking highly optimized. When you get into highly optimized builds and then teams that have been optimized the difference gets pretty slim and may depend on what the foe and content is. There's absolutely nothing remotely 'squishy' or slow about any large team of support characters with or without IOs that are optimized to work together. Melee in general has less synergy and that will tend to slow them down compared to an optimized team of support whose synergy is relatively extreme by comparison but usually such teams also are slowed by subdividing into multiple groups as that synergy isn't as fully employed for their benefit even if with the advent of IOs they remain individually quite strong. -
Oh yeah mine's domesticated not wild or feral and considers it her duty to be ready to double back from her usual spawn crashing to help a teammate. Of course scrapperlock's a thing and sometimes the arrival can be ... a bit late 🤫
-
Lol But yes instead of Focus (or in addition to) my scrapper could be target, follow, pass one over while using Shockwave to give some breathing space.
-
Excellent point, the tank could quickly target through to Taunt, scrapper hit Focus or the defender or blaster where and who to blast or nuke. It's not purely just so the Empath knows who to Clear Mind but who might be most in trouble on the team.
-
This. If I'm in a heavy fight I barely see the actual fight or my teammates. My attention is heavily focused on the team (or league) ui watching icons, health bars, and end bars. Edit: Of course the ideal situation would be both options available as unless things are going sideways I am attacking and would more likely see float text and other visual cues.
-
What @macskullsaid. Getting everyone buffed is why Empathy is such a busy set. Since turning into an AoE is unlikely I surely wouldn't object if they bumped up the duration some. Even 2 minutes duration would help with the feeling of constantly having to cast CM. PS: Increase Density (Kinetics) is the power he's talking about. Love the list @MTeagueabout the only change I'd make is I'm really wanting to hit the recently awakened with CM then Fort then a Heal if needed. CM first restores their ability to do things for themselves like use inspires, move away, use an escape power etc..

I'll double down on what MTeague has said. I discovered the HC servers late 2019. Got to play for about 4 months when my computer up and died on me. Hope to soon return beyond using this phone. But that 4 months saw me recreate my main from Live and play her up yo 50+. Point is they haven't passed in your memories and they can live again here on HC. Welcome back!!!

The Best Defense - Beginner's Advice for IOs, Builds, and Survivability

Well I can satisfy your curiosity, at least a wee bit. I was reading Guides ... you can necro a guide? If I was the author would I be necrotizing or updating (or both)? -
The Best Defense - Beginner's Advice for IOs, Builds, and Survivability
Doomguide2005 replied to Cheli's topic in Guides
Eyeballs slide towards SR character and back to posted guide. Couple thoughts about SR in particular DDR (Defense Debuff Resistance) a very important aspect of an SR characters mitigation. Defense debuffs cause a loss of defense. You get hit and lose, for example, 10% defense. Your previous softcapped defense is now at 35% and foes will hit you 3 times as often (5% to 15% of the time). DDR reduces that 10%. If you have 30% DDR you will instead resist the loss and only lose 7%. Armor sets, particularly Defense oriented sets, frequently have some DDR. Resist oriented sets are lucky if they have any. Most other sets/ATs have 0.00% DDR. By comparison SR has gobs of it and caps out at 95%. That 10% defdebuff above will reduce an SR's defenses by 0.5% if they haven't neglected. They'll barely notice the difference compared to the character now sitting at +35% who if hit again things are going to get ugly fast (enter cascading defense failure). While strongly oriented towards positional defenses SR has scaling damage resistance that applies to everything except Psi and Toxic damage. It scales upwards with loss of health hitting 60% shortly before defeat. You start gaining resistance after the loss of around 40% health (but this old brain is feeling uncertain he's remembering the correct health value so please correct me if I am having a senior moment). That's only 15% off the scrapper resistance caps. Two unique IO's can add to this. Shield Wall special adds +5% and Reactive Defenses which has a scaling +resistance adding +3 to 13% similar to SR only starting from the moment you have taken any damage at all. -
@WindDemon21I largely agree. It has been a long time since I even included AP in my theoretical Mids builds. I can spam HO as fast as is possible (about 3 times as fast as AP assuming equal recharge ... which may be a bad assumption about AP's slotting). HO ×3 is basically a 787 heal, AP is a 669 heal. So HO is sort of like a 3 pulse DoT heal in the time I fire off and recharge AP. I can spam HO roughly 8 times in 20 seconds. I can do AP roughly 3 times in 20 seconds. Why pick 20 seconds as a reference point, because that's the duration of the Heal and Regen debuffs in AP. Those debuffs in AP stack. Fortunately as long as Regen Aura is running only the Heal resistance is significant. (Edit: and 100% is as bad as it gets so really only resets the debuff duration) And fyi unless CoD is incorrect the time before effect is identical on HO and AP, fairly up front and quick at 0.833 seconds out of 2.267 animation time as is the cast time of 2.27 seconds. But I asked so as to get an idea of how one might tweak it so those that do like and use it would still see it as desirable while hopefully making it a possible choice for those who think it is eminently skippable currently.

Pretty sure you can build pretty much any scrapper to survive a Master run. But the one thing about Cimerorans that really works in SR's favor is their defense debuffing. You'll never notice it provided your DDR is where it should be. Just about everyone else has to figure out how to deal with getting defense debuffed. But yes your Achilles heel will be that autohit Nictus. Rebirth is probably your best answer to a lack of self heal (and inspires) and I'll leave others with more experience in how to deal with the Nictus for advice there.

Got addicted to traps defender but have some issues.
Doomguide2005 replied to Otviss's topic in Defender
Yeah agreed until it gets a serious makeover Tome Bomb not worth it. The only time I've seen it used was a themed team with friends. We all had AR/Devices and could and would fill hallways with Tripmines. Then use Time Bomb as a pulling tool (along with Sniper Rifle) to bring multiple mobs to our kill zone. 50+ tripmines will mess a mob or 6 up pretty badly especially while being hammered by Full Auto while trying to get at us 😉 Okay luv ya autocorrect but no Tomes were used in this attack.
