If City of Heroes were remade entirely today...
UltraAlt replied to Thrythlind's topic in General Discussion
When that happened, I logged not several characters that were stuck in the lake in Atlas Park. Pretty soon the /stuck command was widely known. There is Frozen world place that is open all year long with an ice pond. I'm not talking about the ski lodge. -

Homecoming still up and running. -

Definitely any kind of gambling type mechanics that can be linked to real world dollars needed to be removed from games, especially if non-adults are playing them. Realistically, this kind of mechanic expands out to collectable card gaming and miniature gaming as well. Gambling sells through addictive compulsive behavior. People want that "ding" of success. Always makes me think people are really wasting the "ding" enjoyment by power-leveling past it. And, you know, taking the fun out of the hero's journey - because the Hero's Journey is the adventure part of the story.

What magazine/website/media-outlet, gaming company, or psychological testing group are you working for? I'm just curious, because you come across like you are researching for something other than your own "fun" or "enjoyment".

Soooo am I the only player who finds "pets" annoying on teams?
UltraAlt replied to Mina's topic in General Discussion
You can't be proven wrong about your feeling. How you feel is how you feel. If you found pets annoying in the past and still do now, then that is the case. There is no debating how you feel. It simply is how you feel. -
Dag, whippersnappers! Git off the Atlas Park lawn!

create new characters There really isn't. I play other MMORPGs like I play City of Heroes. I like to explore as much of the different character creation options as I can in game. There seems to be a large number of players that are "one and done". They may have an alt or two, but they usually run their main - until they get bored with a game an leave. City of Hero - obviously - has a far more massive and immersive character creation system. I mean face it. Most games have damage dealers, tanks, healer, a stealth guy, and a controller (maybe). They may have 3-5 variations of each type. And all of them essentially look the same other than possibly what kind of armor they are wearing (which may very well be related to its values in combat) or which weapons they are carrying. Most players are going to pigeon-hole into one type of character and play that in every MMORPG that they play in. That's their niche and they work to be good at it. They play up to the end levels of a game and get bored and quit or grind for eternity. City of Heroes is a creative game. And sorry to say, some players just aren't creative. That isn't to say that someone can't come to City of Heroes and want to make all of the Avengers and alt out on the rest of the Marvel Universe. Not being very creative, but if they are doing a good job on the costumes (before getting nerfed in order to protect Marvel/Disney's copyrights....) they are having to put some creativity into it. And, if that is their trip and they do get nerfed, they probably will give up on the game. Most players aren't looking for a game as in depth as City of Heroes.

5-30 Million at a time seems to be a sweet spot. "Enough for the time being" to "enough to get going" If someone is trying to track down the Halloween costume parts, I'll buy them and mail them to them. if someone is asking for small amount of infl, I'll usually email it to them. Honestly, if you give them 100m, they are going to end up giving me some of that by buying my products on the market and I will probably make a killing off of them because they will have no respect for the influence they are spending.

What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
"Let's all ..." is my main issue. I shouldn't get involved with these threads anyway. I'll try not to do so in the future. -
What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
fail. Yeah. You can say that I "play villains" as well and put me on a chart that looks like that. However, that is not a true picture of in-game time or true assessment of the villain or hero player base. I play villains less than ... I'm guessing realistically heading on 1% of my game time. Less than 4% of my characters are villains. Your chart doesn't take that into consideration. Your chart warps what is going on in order to prove your point rather than looking at what is going on realistically. How very villainous of you. -
I would say that would be "Own it/Obtained it" if it is magic. Mutation is Mutation. It isn't "magic".

This is what farming is for. Power Leveling and looting without thinking or worrying about the level or difficulty of the enemies. Sit at the door and get dragged to 50. Farming is for the people that don't want to play the game and want to go directly to the end-game. You don't have to Farm. (missions or the AE) It does happen, but most of the time there isn't some farmer running around "psst, hey, kid. You only level 1. You want a hit of real power? Come door sit for me and I'll make you ding so fast you won't believe it! I'll have you at 50 in no time. Am I the best and coolest gamer you ever met?"
-
Yep. In full agreement. Basically, if you see someone listing stuff like that you are going to get on a team that wants a speed run. They are jaded on the content and really are just doing it for the merits. So, when it comes down to it, those are really the teams to avoid if you are a new player, just coming back, or *gasp* actually run the content. I didn't say it. Honest! The OP did. Back then, it really made THE CITY seem big and awe inspiring. It was hard to get around at low levels. Fighting was a challenge. You really felt like you were achieving something as you leveled up. All the running around on Task Forces was secretly a tour of THE CITY. Now it's like, "well, I outleveled that arc already. Where should I go next?" - that is, if you weren't already farmed to 50. I have seen plenty of players complain about how dangerous the Vahzilok are. As you have indicated, those players haven't taken time to figure out what is going on with the villain group. There is much Leroy Jenkins, bull-in-the-china-shop, and Hulk-smash going on. Throw in the "I'm a level 8Zilion incarnate. Don't get in my way, kid. I got this." If you are running a task force and you don't want it to be a speed task force. Tell people in advance that you are running a "leveling" or "XP" taskforce. And never give away the star. (same goes for regular content when it comes down to it) If you join other people's teams, look for teams where they announce what zone they are in or what arc they are on. (do the same for other people). List the name of the Taskforce and the lowest level that can be on the team when recruiting. (and make sure to entice other with the lure of the team having cookies ... or pancakes/waffles...) You don't have to get 2xp. You don't have to use any of the P2W stuff. You don't have to farm. You don't have to join a level 50 team when you are level 1 (or 30 for that matter). Recruit for the kind of content you want to run.

What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
I don't think you understand what I'm telling you. "Many" is a nebulous term. You could say that "many" game on Reunion. There aren't a couple, a few, or several players that game on Reunion. There are "many". But Reunion is still the least populated server. The villain side is hardly ever over 1/3 of the population on any given server at any given time. (I have seen rares spikes on the least populated servers). The villain population is under (often well under) 25% of the population any given server most of the time. Look for yourself :: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/status/ -
What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
Sure. Why not do something to cater to what is generally never over 1/3 and mostly less than 1/4 of the population that is on at any given time? No mechanic should be added to punish the majority of players (those that play heroes) or grant favor to the minority that want to commit crime. (Gold side, go head and continue on with whatever that is that you all do in that alternate reality.... most of your content has been merged into co-op content anyway.) The game shouldn't try to force heroes to commit crimes (run villain content) in order to gain an advantage, but, apparently, there are some players that feel that they need to get their end-game powers from supervillain mentors. - so, apparently, there was some leaning in that direction by the DEVs before the sunset. Okay. I'm pretty sure that you have brought up this "trash talk" multiple times. Can you please post what this "trash talk" is that you have been seeing? (at least, I'm assuming the "trash talk" is acceptable enough to post on the forums and wasn't delete by the Moderators before I read it). -
What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
Well, I was part of the CoV Beta. This is from about 5 minutes before the CoV beta server shutdown. I had my level 50 Villain before the sunset. Ran other villains. I have 4 villians on Torchbearer. I just don't enjoy the content. Don't really feel the need to play a villain. Really played it more before the sunset because I paid for it .. and, mainly bought it, so I could have access to a superhero base. -
What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
Sorry. Was mugged by villains - more than once (more than 3 or 4 times) when I tried to suggest that they work together to get more people to game with. -
well, this all kind of when Rogue so I'll chime in on this. yeah. When playing DCUO, you can become a member of the Suicide Squad (in instances that you are on a mixed team of heroes and villains), JLA, (and I can't remember for sure , but the Legion of Doom - probably). All powers are "like" those of other DC Heroes, but really aren't. You can have hard light powers, but you aren't and never can be a Green Lantern. You can't be a Kryptonian. Etc. You aren't a meta, you're just infested with exo-bytes or whatever that were stolen for the "real" heroes and villains in the future. DCUO always refers to you as male and pink-skinned if I remember properly.

What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
No. You want to be a villain, then play a villain. You are on your own. We all get to play the game the way that we enjoy playing it. There are apparently no "villain ya-yas" to get out or they would be gaming on the villain side. No. -
What about a Redside week... month... whatever?
UltraAlt replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
I think you have been in for forums long enough to know that the "Red side" players really don't want any help. Their solution is to force others to play with them or give themselves some advantage for playing the "red side". They want to be villians. Let them enjoy being what it means to be a villain. -
I too love the City, and I'm really happy with Homecoming. There is a lot of window-dressing in my post which was mainly set-up, but the main point is that "not-end-game" term. It was just so weird of a term to use that I had to share it with someone that might understand where I was coming from. I was hoping someone would here and could relate. I was never a big fan of DCUO. It was just something to get my gaming super-hero on until something better came along and mainly because I was already subscribing to Sony Online Entertainment for Planteside 2 and that gave me full membership to DCUO as well (as Everquest, Everquest 2, and Dragon's Prophet at the time).

redside Why is it so hard for me to play Red Side?
UltraAlt replied to Dusty Longshot's topic in General Discussion
The DEVs intentionally added all that additional vertical in CoV because they thought it was cool. Makes you wonder which DEV thought adding the buzzing fluorescent light sounds in the CoH:GR was a cool idea. The intentional additional vertical does make it harder to get around CoV. Flight alway seems to be the superior travel power in superhero games. Always easier to use and general around in general.
