What software do you use to record COH?
UltraAlt replied to KaizenSoze's topic in General Discussion
Like I said, the instant replay is set up to record 5 minutes (I'm pretty sure that is correct) by default, so, if you don't go in and turn the instant replay stuff off (not sure if that is the correct term and being lazy to switch to my ADMIN account and ferret it out), it is constantly recording the last 5 minutes in a loop of storage, so at any point after you manage to do something epic, you can push the button and the last 5 minutes (or more or less depending up on if you changed the settings) will automatically be saved as a file. So that is taking up CPU, GPU, and hard drive access time while it is running. I do use Nvidia Experience and I have used it to capture gameplay and screenshots (it's my default for screenshots at this point.) It will record any microphone you have on if you don't mute it. So you can narrate or what not with it, or shut it off to stop ambient room noises or background sounds from filtering in over the gameplay footage. I did to my best to shutdown or maximally nerf the instant reply storage. I can't remember which I achieved. * If you don't use Geforce Experience for video or picture capture I would turn it off that feature :: youtube video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7ej-SBLpzY -
What software do you use to record COH?

Are you talking about the mode where it is actually always recording the last "set length of time" (I think the default is set at 5 minutes) versus starting to record when you tell it to start recording? -

I'm guessing you are not running Window 10. Is that correct? When Windows 10 came out, Windows 8.1 told me that my Toshiba laptop was good to go for the upgrade. The Toshiba website said it was good to go for the upgrade to Windows 10. Over the course of the next several months, I re-installed Windows 8, upgraded to 8.1, and was told that the model of my Toshiba computer could upgrade to Windows 10 repeatedly - probably 3 or 4 times. Eventually, the Windows 10 updater and the Toshiba website said that the model of my Toshiba computer was not compatible with an upgrade to Windows 10. Along the way, Windows 10 damaged my built in NVidia graphics card so that I could not play games that I was previously able to play. While Windows 10 was installed, it was apparently doing damage to the battery on my laptop as well - system kept giving me warnings that the battery was going bad. It would not shutdown properly. It would act like it was trying to upgrade for days at a time (slow interface, slow connection, so-so CPU speed, no progress prompts, so no way to know what the actual problem was). So that was the end of any upgrade to Windows 10 on my Toshiba laptop. Toshiba pretty much kicked the ball down the road. Microsoft doesn't give a $#$% if it damages someone's hardware. At around that same time that Window 10 wasn't letting me attempt the upgrade again due to incompatibility , NVidia started adding Vulkan that was also incompatible with my laptop graphics card. I can't remember if this was due to the age of my graphics card or due to the damage. I'm running the Legacy NVidia driver on that Windows 8.1 Toshiba laptop at this point and set it up (somehow, I can't remember as it was years ago at this point) so that it can't look for updates ... it doesn't even fully function at any rate. I was never able to get it to play the games that failed to play after the upgrade to Windows 10 after reinstalling Windows 8.1 and not upgrading to Windows 10. Before the attempts of upgrade to Windows 10, I could easily run Planetside 2 on my Toshiba laptop computer. Now it won't even run City of Heroes. It's not just the NVidia driver. Obviously, if the laptop could run Planetside 2, it could easily have handled City of Heroes. In fact, I loaded it and it was running it and crashed out with an error and wouldn't let me run it again on the laptop. Windows 10 installation damaged my graphics card somehow. It was also affecting my laptop's battery health. I have no idea what else it was doing to cause negative impact to my system (fan speeds, voltage changes, who knows?). Was it an issue with hardware specs that Toshiba provided to Microsoft? I have no idea. So, yeah, that's why I'm asking if you are running Windows 10. -
I guess Scarlet Scarab was taken, but I guess that ain't blue.

I wouldn't even bother doing that (I never have). On the basic non-Set IOs they are almost always going to be cheaper - especially below level 35. Before the Sunset, I did buy some from the workbench, but I haven't done that since I have played on Homecoming. The Auction House has always been cheaper in my experience. I refer back to :: Specifically to the level 15 recharge memorization. Making 7 level 15s and 6 level 20s Recharge or Interrupt IOs would unlock the memorization of level 15 and 20 Recharge and Interrupts along with earning the "Hired Gun" badge.

Yes. They often do behave like a lot of chickens running around with their heads lopped off. Some call it scrapperlock. "Scrapperlock A state of mind where the player (most commonly a Scrapper or Brute) dashes from foe to foe without regard to surroundings. Similar to berserkers, players in Scrapperlock may fail to notice damage being taken by themselves or their teammates." - https://archive.paragonwiki.com/wiki/Scrapperlock

Could just as well be a tank(s) that isn't taunting, melee characters rushing into something that they can't handle, tanks trying to herd more than they handle... .....or settings being jacked up too high for the players that are playing. But more often than not, it's simply the no-strategy I like to call bull-in-a-china-shop. All there is is rushing in and hulk-smash. I've seen a lot of team wipes because of that. So here's the ol'Defender tricks:: 1) Never attack first. 2) Target through the melee (especially if they are a tank with taunt. If a tank doesn't taunt, then taunt them if you feel like by not healing them. "Why aren't you healing?" "Well, I figured if taunt wasn't important for a tank, then I didn't need to heal.") - the do more damage generally, so they will keep the agro even if they don't have taunt. 3) Single target - if you use an AoE, you might do damage to an enemy that the melee hasn't done damage to. This may happen with single target attacks, but if you use an AoE, you have a risk of having more attack you. This means that you will also be making it easier for the character you are targeting through defeat their opponents faster. 4) Always heal and buff the character that you are targeting through first. Always. 5) AVs are alway going to try to target a Defender first if they can. Run away around a corner as able to break LoS (line-of-sight) and ALWAYS stay out of melee range. You are the biggest threat. Not because you can do the most damage, but because you can keep those that do the most damage alive.

I remember it, but I can't remember the name of it. One of the Circle of Thorn missions has a big cavern with a bunch of magical prison rooms in it. I can't remember the name of that one either.

Yes. It was sold stand alone, so, if you just bought it, you could only play villains. People that bought City of Heroes had to buy it if they wanted access to Supergroup bases and additional character slots. (later bases were gifted to hero players - and the Good vs. Evil edition version came out [which was after Issue 8] that was access to both sides in one box). Though City of Villains could be played alone, it was an addition to City of Heroes and not a sequel or a stand-alone for a majority of the player base buying it. So no. You can't say it was originally developed with Villains because when the game originally came out you could only play heroes. I argue that is speculation. It is more accurate that more players want to play heroes instead of villains. There was no head start with Homecoming. On Homecoming, the villain population online at any given time tends to be 1/3 (or less) of heroes population on every Homecoming server. I'm sorry. Villains simply aren't that popular. Villains historically have been complaining in the forums about how they don't have other villains to team with. The alignment system was to help the failing villain side have someone to game with. When it come down to it, that was the reason for F2P back then. Subscribers were declining, and they wanted to bring in more players for the subscribers to game with. They were also started fiddling around with an increased number of microtransactions at that point to pull a kind of bait-and-switch - play for free, but if you really want to play then you gotta pay. Problem was that they were applying that to subscribers as well as the F2P players.

Dominator - Confuse, Fear, Slow Well, slotted two fear non-set IO's in it. They don't get the normal "fear head" on them. No way to really tell if they are running away more.
-
Controller - Confuse, Slow (slots confuse and slow - double-checked) - I checked my build here. I had the same build on live and it was also slow and confuse there. Dominator is actual - Confuse, Fear, Slow. I don't think the fear part actually kicks in until it's slotted. I have a fear Set IO with a proc in it at this point. Will put a fear in it when I level up and see what happens.

Chart below shows the level and how many of each level you need to craft to memorize the group. Some type within that group tend to be cheaper to buy and cheaper to build, but less likely to sell on the market. Example :: If you make 2 confuse level 10's, you unlock/memorize level 10 Defense Debuff, To Hit Debuff, Taunt, and Confuse Badge Category Recipe Levels 10 15 & 20 25 & 30 35 & 40 45 & 50 Defense Debuff, To Hit Debuff, Taunt, Confuse Declining 2 Decaying 2 & 1 Despoiler 2 & 2 Dismantler 2 & 3 Retrograde 4 & 3 Heal Medicator 7 Mender 5 & 4 Rebuilder 7 & 6 Revivifier 8 & 7 Reanimator 10 & 9 Defense Buff, Resist Damage, Intangible Armorer 7 Guardian 5 & 4 Protector 7 & 6 Security 8 & 7 Defensive 10 & 9 Sleep, Snare, Hold, Stun, Immobilize, Fear Blinding 8 Beguiler 5 & 5 Charming 7 & 6 Charismatic 9 & 8 Mesmerizer 11 & 11 Endurance Modification, Endurance Reduction Energy Conservationist 9 Battery Powered 6 & 6 Nuclear Powered 8 & 7 Mystically Powered 10 & 9 Perpetual 12 & 12 Recharge Rate, Interrupt Time Trigger Man 10 Hired Gun 7 & 6 Hit-Man 9 & 8 Sniper 11 & 11 Sharpshooter 14 & 14 Accuracy, ToHit Buff Major 10 Lt. Colonel 7 & 6 Colonel 9 & 8 Major General 11 & 11 General 14 & 14 Damage, Knockback Munitionist 10 Weaponeer 7 & 6 Warhead 9 & 8 Arms Dealer 11 & 11 Lord of War 14 & 14 Run Speed, Fly Speed, Jump, Range Pilgrim 10 Vagabond 7 & 6 Wanderer 9 & 8 Walks the Earth 11 & 11 Nomad 14 & 14 Icon for all badges in that level: Notes: +2 salvage storage +1 recipe storage The cost is based on the current cost on the market. How many Homecoming is feeding into it. How many are players feeding into it. Who may be trying to manipulate the market on that. I know that any IO (non-set) recipe below level 30 is pretty much a throw away for me, so I put it on the Market for 1. Cost double or more when you don't have it memorized. If you have the Day Trader and Shopkeeper (or equivalents), you can earn discount coupons to make crafting IO's cheaper.

Lots of those doors in Council missions. There is a room in the back of some of them with like 16 doors. Moonfire and Hess both have at least one room like that. I think they are actually in more than one of those missions. Problem, of course, is having a team that wants to take time to destroy the doors.

Must be in the music track sound. I have that turned way down (cool music, but gets very repetitive). I don't remember ever hearing it. I have my SFC sound turned down a bit, but no that much. The SFX that really annoyed me the most was the fluorescent light sound in Praetoria. Didn't like the missions much. That sound was the final straw that swore me off of making Praetorian characters.

So there are 4 alignments Hero - You are a good guy and can only run missions in Paragon City and co-op zones. Vigilante - You are a shady character, but mostly for the side of justice. You can travel to the Rogue Isles, but only get missions from hero contacts. Rogue - You were once a villain, but sometimes you do things that are considered good. You can travel to Paragon City, but only get missions from villian contacts. Villain - You are a bad guy and can only run missions on the Rogue Isles and co-op zones The advantage of the Vigilante and Rogue is being able to run with teams for both hero and villain content, but you must be on the in a co-op zone or Paragon City to join hero teams or Rogue Isle to join a villain team. You don't have to go through the tips option. You can change alignments whenever you want by talking to Null the Gull on top of the van in the first villain side room in the Pocket D. The game was originally developed with Heroes. Villains were added. Villain population was much smaller than the hero population (still is). The DEVs talked like it was a way to explore different aspects of the genre (say the Punisher for example - when you come down to it anyone hunted by the police would be a vigilante so really Spider-man was vigilante [I don't read much of the ret-conned x # comics] and, well, yeah, Rogue). I think that the Vigilante and Rogue were actually added as a way for Villains to be able to team with heros. A little the other way around but mostly for the benefit of the Villain players that had a smaller player-base to game with.

Doesn't appear so originally. Arctic Air is different based on the archetype. Controller - Confuse, Slow (slots confuse and slow) Dominator - Confuse, Fear (slots confuse and fear enhances. I have a fear set IO in mine) not sure about the others archetypes

I was looking for something like this at some point, but I think I was looking for an energy skin at the time. There is a metallic face, but it is more robotic looking than I think you are looking for. I think the closest you can get is a gray skin tone.
-
Uh, I figure anyone "hanging out" role-playing are mostly doing it in bases at this point. It isn't like the days when you could go do the Pocket D and player characters were actually dancing on the dance floor.

I never understood why they didn't sell at least something. Maybe over-priced and expecting a tip, but selling something. I guess some of them do at Valentines, but they should sell something all year round. Isn't that their day job? (er ... maybe night job)

yeah, I know it's easy to go into the manage window and click on the "show detailed info" thing. I just figured the terms might actually mean something. I was looking at a couple of the sonic cone powers and they were marked as minor. I looked at the damage and couldn't figure out why they were called minor. Just figure terms mean something when are used instead of just haphazardly slapped onto to something. Good to hear that the DEVs at least did a pass on it. There is a damage type listing at https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Damage I figured there might be something like that for the "strength?" descriptors but I just didn't know the proper term to use for searching the wiki for it.
-
Fortunately, for you (I am personally opposed to them), there are Fire Farms running constantly to power-level you to 50 so you only have to door-sit and can avoid having to do any of that tedious (the actual game) game play. You can probably even just continue to door-sit at 50 to get influence/infamy/(whatever currency the Praetorians use) to buy all your uber expensive PVP enhancements.
-
It seems that everyone that has replied to this thread does not know. They have stated in one manner or another that they don't know if there is a list of the damage "strength" descriptors and do not know where it would be found. Based on their replies, there isn't one. But the selection of answers so far is so small that it does not mean that there isn't one.
-
That's my problem. It shouldn't be that way. The term should mean something. I'm assuming there is a list somewhere that indicates what these terms actually mean and in what order? I'm wondering if it not only has something to do with damage done, but also penetration ability (versus resistance) and who knows what else. It does seem to be "very loose" and that's what I'm trying to look into find a better definition of what the "strength?" descriptors mean
