City of Heroes. So many alts, so many Heroes, Villains, Preatorians. Has the following ever happened to you? I was looking at my few character pages, trying to decide which of my characters I would use to try and make a Badger. My Rad/Rad Scrapper? Nah, she's too slow. My Claw/Bio Brute? Maybe, I dunno. My Water/Elec Blaster? Nah. I suck at Blasters. My... wait. Who are you? *Cue ominous music* When did I make you? Why do you have so many levels? I don't even know your powersets. [Logs on] Uh... ok this is my own tray placement, my scheme of doing things and you're wearing one of the generic costume templates I like but I just can't remember rolling you, choosing your name or playing you. I am utterly confused. Well, let's see if you're badger material!!

This brings a very interesting question: Suppos I would like to experience the whole story (at a reasonnable level, say, +0x2 or +0x3 TOPS), what would be a good AT or powerset combo? Because, you know, I read it somewhere that this game allows you to have alts.

This. x 1000. I don't care how many people tell me this is great and challenging. To me it's just terrible design. Make them hard, make them remorselessly unfair, give them debuffs up to the wazoo, I don't care. But let me be able to tell where they are so I can target them. I'm playing City of Heroes, not City of Pixel Hunts.

The question is unfortunately too vague to have one single true answer. How do you acquire your stuff? Do you outbid everyone to get EVERYTHING NAO NAO NAO? Then yeah, 25M for a purple sounds right. Can you shop with a little patience? Do you buy recipes instead and craft them yourself? Do you plan to use the purple recipes you got on your own as you play? Do you buy super packs to get your own ATOs and Winters? Because Super Packs are not a flat cost, there is opportunity for market in there. And the world doesn't revolve exclusively around purples. People want defense cap and perma haste, so that's a lot of defense IO sets. those can be 6-7M a pop, or a lot less if you plan and play smart. And then when you're REALLY into things, there's Hami-Os. You know, I could go on the AH right now and bid 50M on every single thing I need. I'd have a full build in 10 mins and it would cost me 4.5 Bil. Or I could plan it, gather stuff, craft, shop wisely, market whatever I get on the side and in the end, the very same build would cost me less than 200 M. So the question isn't "what's the cheapest build and the most expensive one". The question is "How much planning and effort are you willing to put in there?"

How can you tell that? And no, it's not me. I trade lost and lots but I tend to have cold feet with purple stuff. As you said, not enough profit, too volatile.

It would be incorrect to compare CoH and WoW as opposing forces for all the reasons you guys have mentionned above. Ever since 1999, I have loved MMOs. Sometimes I dabbled (Champions Online, Everquest 2, STO, Warhammer Online, Guild Wars, a few more), sometimes I played quite extensively (CoH, WoW, Everquest, DAoC, Rift, Guild Wars 2, LOTRO, SWTOR, PSO, PSO2). Paying a sub has never been an issue. Paying for an expansion has never been an issue. I have a stable income and aside from tabletop RP, video games is the only place where I put hobby money. And here we are, in 2021. I could play any MMO I want, but I chose CoH and LOTRO. Why? Because CoH is unique and wonderful and no other MMO feels like it. CoH gives me what I want when I want to feel fast, powerful, over the top. It gives me flexibility, pretty powers and happy bubble butts in tight clothes. LOTRO is the opposite. It's slow. Soooo veeeery slow. It's like a massage for the brain, telling you a nice story with Ian McKellen's voice. Both games are worlds apart but they share one trait: they are old AF. This, to me, doesn't hurt them in any way. Most of my friends are still on WoW but I will most likely never go there again. To me, WoW is all about running the same 5 daily quests until the next raid comes out. I hate that. And I hate PVP with a burningly passionate passion. The game plays well and aged well, but that's not enough for me. So no, I can't see why a WoW player would come here instead. People who come here do so because they want to be here, not because they no longer want to be somewhere else. Am I making a point with all this mess? I think I derailed my own train of thought when I mentionned bubble butts. Yeah. Do you have a link for that website? I really, really want to read that website. Really.

Well then, my idea is relevant, there is no harm in having multiple ressources. Let's use it and share the good away. Call it a "by players, for players" initiative. I will be using it, for sure.

I think it would be really neat to have a forum section where we can showcase our characters. Some people have awesome ideas and designs and would certainly like to show their bio or screenshots and talk about their characters a little. It IS City of Heroes, let's get to meet them. Maybe such a section already exists and I just cant find it. Or maybe people simply use the RP forum for that, I guess that could work to. Anyways, thoughts?

Well to be honest, I've only had problems with those Vanguards. Up to now, any well-built char was able to handle blue, red or gold. Gold side 1-20 is fun but stupid-easy. The wards? Well, I wouldn't call them "hard". I would call them "a mess". When you start fighting things that look like the spell effect they use against you, good luck trying to target through all the graphical mess. So far I have avoided the wards like the plague. Now that I have some really solid characters under my belt, I might try them again. For the story 😉

With camera shake disabled, it`s entirely tolerable, great suggestion. I'm kicking myself a little for not thinking about it myself.

That was a well spent commission. Though it would look better in red and white with Maple Leaves. Or maybe not. I agree with OP: patterns everywhere would provide happiness.

Oh nice! It`s something I never see done in Mids so I assume it comes with a better understanding of the late-game.
