As it is currently the only Tanker Secondary sets that aren't taking overly harsh reductions in AoE damage are those with 15ft base radius AoEs. So realistically Super Strength, Battle Axe, Stone Melee and Spines.

I was already planning on rolling up another Super Strength toon, so that kind of clinches it.

How do you think Elec Armor/SS is gonna fair after the changes to Elec Armor?

If you're dying as a scrapper you're definitely playing it wrong. Enemies = dead means they do less damage, and it doesn't take nearly as long to defeat them as a tank would take.

While this is true, what they said isn’t wrong either. Completely depends on the content. This is why people like @Linea build extremely tough scrappers for upper tier content. Especially if you cycle specific defensive powers. You just need to find the break point of DPS per min for the content you want, hit that and build tanky from there. Doing any DPS higher than that is a diminishing return.

That being said, this is mostly for solo content. Doing 4*/Aeon stuff with a group? Just go all in on damage since your team should be cycling barriers anyways.

  3. Love seeing this thread pop up again! @SomeGuy was the one who originally suggested this combo to me. I based a lot of my build on both his and @Onlyasandwich’s draft.

Honestly, one of the most synergistic and fun tanker combos IMO. Just feels like pure power gaming 😂

I know you asked War but I'll chime in a bit earlier. You pretty much hit the nail on the head though! One of the perks of Battle Axe (it has many) is that it is so, SO easy to keep that Force Feedback +recharge proc up! My Rad/Battle Axe Tank has had the buff on for over 20 seconds (the duration will stack instead of giving you more recharge, I'm not sure what the cap is but it's more than 20 seconds), even after I leave combat it's stayed on! I have it in Pendulum, Swoop and Axe Cyclone. In AoE situations it practically becomes permanent.

Since that's a thing, Rad/ or Bio/ would definitely be top contenders since you have a lot of powers you do want to cooldown fast. Rad/ having two proc bombs, your absorb shield and your T9, Meltdown. Bio/ having one proc bomb and two absorb shields. Fire/ would also be good and Shield/ would also be fun! Another cool thing about Battle Axe... and circling back to those Force Feedback procs, is that you have a seamless AoE attack chain in Cleave, Pendulum and Axe Cyclone... So, dipping into Energy Mastery actually isn't a terrible idea for endurance management because you have oodles of seamless AoE anyway. If I were to make a Shield/Battle Axe I would absolutely go Energy Mastery. I did it on my Rad/Battle Axe and haven't missed going Soul Mastery for Gloom or Dark Obliteration.

Awesome info. I was thinking, if I did a Shield/Battle Axe, if I'd go Psionic or Energy. Both seem like good fits. Shield/Battle Axe seems like Shield/Fiery in that it brings a ton of dmg already, so you don't really NEED the epic aoe powers.

There are certainly merits to Shield/StJ.

Yeah, it's hard to for me to say which of the two would be "better." Rad/StJ will never worry about endurance and have nice AOE consistently.

For Shield/StJ, there is just something super nice about hitting Combat Readiness, Shield Charging in followed by Lv. 3 Spinning Strike and just using your combos until you can L3 Crushing Uppercut a tough target. Just *chefs kiss*

This among a few other things really makes Battle Axe the ultimate Tanker Secondary (don't forget enemy juggling with KU and KD). Haven't tried it with Fold Space yet, but I can see how that would get "interesting" (dang, test server here I come again....).

Gotta ask War, because I've seen you sing Battle Axe's praises: what do you feel is the best primary to pair with it? I'm assuming most likely Rad or Bio Armor. I could see Elec Armor going nicely as well though.

Shield/Battle Axe would prob look SWEET... I just imagine it'd be tough to work around the endurance.

  7. I messed around with both a Rad/StJ and Shield/StJ build on a Tanker. Both would be amazing. I know @Spaghetti Betty runs a StJ/Rad Scrapper. They might be able to give some insights on how it'd run on a Tanker. I would think, with Rad being primarily a resist set, it would shine more on a Tanker compared to a Scrapper.... that being said, I believe Scrappers get a larger dmg % buff from Meltdown (40% I believe?) compared to a Tanker or Brute.

I've been having fun revisiting my Rad/Electric tank

Was looking at this combo as well. Lightning Rod in and dropping Rad’s PBAOE’s as well probably absolutely wipes a lot of mobs haha.

I know you wanted to go /Earth for theme... But might I suggest going Soul? Gloom and Dark Obliteration are a simple one, two combo power pick and they offer huge benefits. The issue with Bio Armor is that you need to take every single power, which makes your builds pretty tight. Bio/Stone/Soul still is pretty thematic, in my opinion. The dark, murky sort of look you get with Bio armor seems to fit really well with Soul. While dropping Fault isn't the end of the world (the way it does AoE damage is funky and it really only does damage 100% of the time if you have a multitude of procs in it), it's still a great power to have in your AoE rotation and it is the perfect place to slot another Force Feedback +recharge proc.

Absolutely! I just was trying to work in /Earth because OP mentioned it. I think /Soul or /Psionic is the way to go personally. Maybe /Energy for Focused Accuracy?

I REALLY dig some of your slotting choices in your build though, you have me moving some stuff around in mine 😂

I’m kind of leaning towards a Bio/Stone/Earth Mastery (for theme).

I was messing around with Bio/Stone myself. I went with Energy Mastery for Focused Accuracy and Physical Perfection, but I rejigged things to get Earth For you.

I had to drop fault to do it. Not sure if it was worth it. I'd leave it to better builders like @Xandyr, @Sovera, @Onlyasandwich, @Story Archer and @Spaghetti Betty to chime in on that.

Now that you mention it as well, Stone/Ice seems like it'd be great on a Scrapper or Stalker. I think @Onlyasandwich had a build floating around once.Bio-Stone-Earth.thumb.png.b20c5b4d7be239f95047e3865171a2ef.png

Because as a Sentinel, depending on build and power choices, you arent relagated to only doing ONE thing. You can actually do fill multiple roles.

My Rad/Rad Sentinel can happily stay at range and cycle Neutino Bolt, X ray Beam. Cosmic Burst and Proton Stream at single targets. He can use a heavily proc'd Electron Haze amd Static Discharge from Epics as ranged Cone Attacks.. but he can also be a PbAoE melee terror with Irradiate ( a 27% defense debuff as well as damage), a heavily proc' Ground Zero, Atomic Blast Nuke.. which is a 37% defense debuff AND a Mag 3 Hold.. and for desert.. ThunderStrike..

I have other builds like Storm/NRG Sentinel that stays completely at range. No PbAoE or Melee attacks.

I play a Time/Rad Defender very much the same way. I love the flexibility of AT’s in this game 💪

  12. One of my favorite scrapper’s is StJ/Rad based on @Spaghetti Betty’s build! Very synergistic imo. Rad Armor brings the AOE Street Justice lacks. Meltdown also gets a higher +damage percentage compared to Tankers/Brutes, which is nice.

I’m sure the combo would be amazing on a Tanker as well. I’ve messed around with it in mids, but haven’t actually ran it.

I hear StJ also shines on Stalkers. Personally, I love the Rib Cracker animation (which Stalkers don’t get) and the -res it brings.

Came up with this, though this could definitely use more work. A few main changes in this build:

    • I picked up Arcane Bolt over Spirit Ward. Unless there's a thematic reason/choice for Spirit Ward, this gives you another ranged attack (replacing Body Blow) and less of an endurance drain as there's very little, if any reason to use Spirit Ward.
    • I slotted for more resistance, but this did come at a cost of defense. Ideally it would be nice to reach at least 50% to positional defense which the build can get close to with nerve alpha (this also helps with some of the low accuracy slotting in attacks because of procs, a lot of your attacks were below 95% acc to +3 when gaussian proc/build up is off).
    • You could consider going for less resistance slotting to get more defense since you would have RoP when needed, but I personally am not as big a fan of relying on powers that don't have reliable uptime.
    • Picked up Taunt and combat jumping over maneuvers (less end consumption).

There's some definite room for improvement, but maybe it can offer some alternative ideas for you. Please ignore the level that some powers are picked at, I wasn't really considering exemplaring and more focused on the final build.

This gave me a lot of food for thought! Arcane bolt is a great call out.

What are your thoughts on the sorcery tree for this build? Worth going or am I kind of pigeon holing myself by going that route?

  14. Jumping off of @One IV All's Cap post, I have been working on a homage myself to the crossover hero Solider Supreme (Cap + Doc Strange). I felt like Shield/Kinetic Melee was kind of the perfect fit. Anyways, this is what I'm looking at some far and would love anyone's thoughts/feedback. Some notes:

    • Definitely looks end heavy. Will have to rely on teaming (which I plan to do) or some accolades.
    • I took at look of "thematic" choices which I know might not be optimal. I went Sorcery Tree for Spirt Ward, Mystic Flight and ROP. I might be better served just going standard flight for some extra defense, or dropping that altogether go leaping pool for combat jumping.
    • I usually ALWAYS take taunt, but Repulsing Torrent kind of functions as a ranged taunt here.
    • I do like focused burst as well... however I skipped due to so many power selections. Perhaps I'm better served moving some things around to pick it up, as having another ranged attack with Repulsing Torrent is pretty unique to Kinetic Melee?

  15. So I think Shield/StJ is “the” Cap set up, but I definitely dig the idea of Shield/Battle Axe “Worthy” Cap as something a little more different and original.

I can’t really speak on one being “better” than the other though.

I’ve personally messed around with doing a hero modeled around the Cap variant “Soldier Supreme” where he gains the powers of Doctor Strange. He’d be a Shield/Kinetic Melee Tanker.

I find that Willpower tends to struggle a bit against those solo EB's and AV's, at least in comparison to other sets.

Yeah, I had someone say to me "WP might be the only set that fairs BETTER fighting multiple EB/AV's due to how RTTC works" compared to just fighting one haha.

I always think that, with the RIGHT team behind it where you're buffing defense and rotating barriers, WP/ could be amazing... if only due to the fact that it can get massive regen underneath all that resist/defense. Might just be one of those things where it's "better on paper" rather than in practice though.

I will respond to you shortly, but first off, never call me a genius or any other such flattering term. I also recommend you do the same for other forumites. It contributes to inflated egos, and that is not healthy for anyone. Speak respectfully but normally, as equals.

Hahahahaha alright, but that just rolled off the tongue easier than “people of moderately acceptable intelligence.” 😂

Edit: Not meant as a slide to anyone, I’ve learned/gained insight from every person I listed, whether I agreed with you or not!

You would get better mileage out of an epic AoE! The best ones (Dark Obliteration, Fire Ball) have the same radius, are ranged, and still have max proc chances while recharging three times as quickly!

It absolutely is just an annoyance and I really dislike adjusting for it!

This is interesting. I took both end recovers on mine, but it might be overkill. I'm gonna play with mids and see what else I can come up with to improve. Currently have Char, could grab Fireball instead. Gloom/Dark Obliteration fit thematically though.

Dude I'm torn.... Thematically I like DA/ElM. For quality of life, I prefer EA/DM.

I think you hit the nail on the head for me as well. DA/ElM will truly feel like a "Shadowstorm" flying around. EA/DM just drives SO nice though.

  20. Honestly, great choices across the board.

Hard to stack rank them, but I'd probably say either Elec/DM or Shield/DM would be slightly more optimal than DA/ElM. I do happen to have an Elec/DM Tanker and a DM/Shield Scrapper.

DM/Shield Scrap runs as advertised and really is just a solid jack of all trades. I see no reason why it couldn't work nice on a Tanker (I think @SomeGuy has mentioned how ToF procs REALLY well now). That is what I do on my Elec/DM Tanker and it pretty much goes as you say.... the thing is very self sufficient and never stops. I honestly don't know why I see it more, since it feels pretty "easy" mode. You can check out this thread on it a while back where @Erratic1, @Xandyr, @Sovera, @BuiltDifferent5 , @Syant and @Story Archer chat about it:

This isn't to say that Dark Armor/Elec Melee wouldn't be AWESOME... I love my Dark/Staff Tanker. I just feel you might need to make some more concessions with the build in order to deal with endurance, KB proctection, that kind of stuff. If you can work your way around that, it could be beastly.

All this being said, I've picked the brains of many of the amazing builders I already mentioned, as well as some more of these geniuses who might be able to give some insights. I always find these discussions fun!:
