Trying to wrap my head around how Praetoria works...
Oubliette_Red replied to BlakeTheDrake's topic in General Discussion
Something I use on all of my Goldsiders /macro_image "DayJob_XPBoost" "XP Toggle" "option_toggle noxp" this way I have a toggle button on my toolbar for turning XP on/off. As far as running content, I haven't done the guide yet but rather going full extreme Loyalist on one character, full batsh!t Resistance on another, then I'll do infiltration on two others for the stories. Maybe then I'll think about a guide run. -
Sorry, but one of my character's psy abilities are natural to her race. Another character's ice powers are a natural ability tied to their race. You see where this is going?

No idea other than PoV from your camera to the target is occluded somehow, but then I'd expect it to no show up on the other side then either.

Respc'd my character on Excelsior to get Translocation and verified that it's accessible.

No suggestions, just stopping by to say welcome back @Grouchybeast! :)

Never played, where should I start?
Oubliette_Red replied to Darkshadow74's topic in General Discussion
Welcome to CoH! Long before you get into the tutorial (which I think everyone new to CoH should run through at least once just to get a feel for how the controls work and how your character's play) there is the character creator. Depending on what you have in mind and how much you want to work towards the 'perfect look' you could easily spend 2 hours just creating your character's look and the colours of your chosen powersets. You can actually do this while the game is still installing. While you are in the CC (character/costume creator) the tutorials will be installed, and after that the game itself is installed. If you want an idea of how varied the costumes can get, head down to Post your best costume here to see what others have created. One of the things I love about CoH is that unlike other MMO's, your costume has zero impact on your character's abilities. Your powers are enhanced directly with your 'gear' in the form of, wait for it... enhancements. @DougGraves gave pretty good suggestions on character archetypes to start with depending on if you want to play melee or ranged and @Techwright gave a pretty comprehensive list of things to be aware of. I just like to add, once you get in the game proper don't be afraid to ask questions. Oh and another thing, you can play on 1 server or all the servers and your limit on characters is basically your own imagination. While Excelsior is the highest pop server that also comes with it's own drawbacks. Heck, make a character on every server and check out the community on all of them to find one to your liking. Once again, welcome! -
I checked this last night and was still able to get through. I found that angle of approach is very important, if you follow along the ceiling to get to the spot then it's not passable, if you come at it from the floor and move up the wall, you'll see the opening. I think there may be a barrier partial obstructing access near the ceiling.

Sally needs an Adamaster timer bar

The change actually occurred back during Legacy, found an archived post mentioning it back in 2009. -

So I'm not the only one that does that. :D -
Games that provided most/least value for money
Oubliette_Red replied to pawstruck's topic in Video Games
CoH will always be #1 in my book for best bang for your buck. Outside of that, if anyone only went by hours spent in-game, then according to Steam is would have been DDO with 2,413.1 hours. My personal opinion would somewhat differ, I think the cost for VIP is excessive, the expansions they pump out are ridiculously priced. Meanwhile they never fix issues, most especially the lag. I only played because I was playing with friends and if it weren't for them I wouldn't play at all. I gave up saying "that's so stupid" regarding game mechanics that I just started saying "that's so DDO". Personally I would place Minecraft as most valued, Paid $25 back in 2012 when I started playing with co-workers and I still play it today. Second would be Morrowind, no idea how many hours I spent in the game on just one character, bought it long before I had Steam, but I scoured every, single inch of that island, every house, town, city, cave and ruin. I played so much of it that when I first started playing CoH and entered my first cave mission map, I avoided running through or landing in puddles because I didn't want to chance mobs hearing me. -
Double xp and outleveling contacts
Oubliette_Red replied to palateswap's topic in General Discussion
This is particularly problematic Goldside and does not ever require 2XP to be active. If you outlevel the contact even mid-arc they will blow you off. On all my Goldsider's I use the following... /macro_image "DayJob_XPBoost" "XP Toggle" "option_toggle noxp" to put an XP on/off toggle on my toolbar. -
I believe the original reasoning of why there was never a proportional mini-mode stemming from Baby New Year from having a bobble head, was to prevent children being portrayed in violent games. Even Penelope Yen is still a tween. I used to have links to many of the applicable laws because I used to QA games, but it's still in a box after my move. Similar reason as to why enemies collapse and fade away rather than gushing fountains of blood (except on my Water/Poison Corruptor which everything gushes in a fountain of blood.) Although the ragdoll physics when they collapse can sometime end up much worse, cringe-worthy positions.

Sally needs an Adamaster timer bar
Oubliette_Red replied to Echo Night's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Everyone on the team gets credit for Sally if only one person plays tag with her, though I believe they must all be in Croatoa. And the 30-45 minute timer is even mentioned in the wiki. Not sure I can agree with giving her arrival an announcement, as they others have said, Sally is meant to be allusive. -
They pushed Ms Liberty off her spot on Excelsior

It happens quite often during Rikti raids, Since the Rikti will spawn near players that are out in the open and since they tend to do so in large-ish spawns they will overwhelm the police drones protecting the area. -
Would you settle for a close, but not exact name?
Oubliette_Red replied to FFFF's topic in General Discussion
If I find that a particular name is taken I may include/remove a space and find that it is available. Most occasions though, I will do as other do and hit the thesaurus. Back on Legacy I attempted 'Black Ice' for an Ice controller, pretty straight forward but taken, so I opted for 'Sable Drift' which I found that I liked much better. -
I came across this last night whilst attempting to create an imp costume for a forum poster. I found that only bodies could sport the Spectrum options while optional body parts do not have the option. These would be: Ears Wings Tails It would be nice if these commonly used body pieces provided the Spectrum option.

The servers are running so bad you cannot play the game?
Oubliette_Red replied to Eyeborn's topic in Help & Support
I find more often than not that when experiencing lag in games, it's usually my internet, since we're still using the providers equipment to a reboot of the router usually resolves issues. I also tend to avoid starting zone and high pop servers, besides most of my friends play on Torch so it's a no-brainer to be there. -
For me it really depends on the character, Taiga Rana uses Super Jump for obvious reasons (well, perhaps not so obvious, Rana being a genus of frogs), my Ice and sometimes Water characters typically use Speed Run with the 'slide' animation, others use Fly/Mystic Flight. Many that don't fly will have Hover.

As I reminded someone last night, don't ask in Atlas Park if "anyone is running a fire farm in AE".

The mini-mode costume cost 250 Prismatic Aether. According to the wiki, Prismatic Aether are "acquired primarily through challenging group content at Security/Threat Level 50. Specifically, Incarnate Trials and Task Forces/Strike Forces on Advanced Difficulty, as well as the Weekly Strike Target and as a very rare drop chance from standard missions. Every time a character completes a mission map, they have a 2% chance to receive a Prismatic Aether Particle salvage. This doesn't require the character to be level 50." In the AH (auction house) Prismatic Aether can range from 3-5m each.

To everyone (re)joining the game and forums
Oubliette_Red replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in General Discussion
Heck, to this day, even after years of playing on Legacy and years here, there are contacts and mission arcs that I haven't done. One of the primary reasons I solo it to read the dialog at my own speed.
