Boop! https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/22120-weekly-discussion-65-build-your-own-powerset-suggestions/ It's certainly been requested a lot. And I'm personally shocked the Legacy Devs never got around to it. Then again, Control definitely got one of the shorter sticks when it came to new Sets. I think it only got three new Sets in the entirely of Legacy: Plant, Electric, and Dark. And Dark took -especially- too long. . . . @Tyrannical . . . do you think that, perhaps, we should flesh out one of your Natural-themed Control Sets? You know, the whole nine yards about Magnitude, Recharge Timers, Damage Scalars. All that "good" stuff. Then drop that baby on the Devs' doorstep and hope they raise it up to be nice and strong with a bright future?

[Request] Character Sorter
FoulVileTerror replied to WanderingAries's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
Aye aye, @Jack Power. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/12251-sorting-character-select/?tab=comments#comment-128325 Though, as some other players have stated throughout suggestions along the lines of this in the past; being able to Search isn't -quite- the same thing as Sorting. However, I can understand if the Devs feel that the existence of the Search function is "good enough" to not prioritize any superior sorting tools. Still, doesn't hurt to try to see how feasible it is to ask a Dev to hand more power over to the players to solve our own problems with mods and applications. -
Mayhem Missions Set In the Rogue Isles
FoulVileTerror replied to tidge's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I'd be quite happy to see these as something for Vigilantes to do as well. And something like a Safeguard mission in the Etoiles for Rogues. Gotta protect those assets and get paid for it! Lots of potential! -
[Request] Character Sorter
FoulVileTerror replied to WanderingAries's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
If the Devs could flag the game to populate the sorting.txt file with more information, then I think we'd be in business. Stuff I'd like to see get sent to the sorting.txt (in order of priority): - Level - Archetype - Primary Power Set and Secondary Power Set - Inf Amount - Origin This would make any third-party sorting tool immensely more powerful and useful to the users. -
<*>THE NAUGHTY CHAOS CUP - EVERLASTING 1v1 PVP TOURNAMENT <*>
FoulVileTerror replied to CU_Krow's topic in Everlasting
Well, to make things as fair as possible, I would need to see all the contestants and what they're capable of, present the information to unbiased and uninvolved PvP experts to get their "professional opinions," and then determine some starting payout values. Or . . . alternatively, we just do a non-Rikti-Fight-Club system, and do something more hands-off and just provide observers a guideline to determine their own payout scheme based on the number of Win Points a contestant has accumulated. Decentralize the whole thing and avoid any accusations of it being unfair, not impartial, and/or rigged. . . . wait. Wasn't there a built-in wagering system IN the Arena Tournament code? Am I going crazy, or was that a thing at some point during Legacy? Is it still a thing? -
<*>THE NAUGHTY CHAOS CUP - EVERLASTING 1v1 PVP TOURNAMENT <*>
FoulVileTerror replied to CU_Krow's topic in Everlasting
*strokes chin* Should we Rikti-Monkey-Fight this thing up and invoke some friendly guessing games as to who'll win in various matches, while maybe or maybe not trading sums of Inf? Just a thought. -
This thread is getting up there in size, so I apologize if someone else reported it and I missed it, but: Mission Architect Entertainment tooltip for Experience Value: "Point" misspelt as "Pont" in the Custom Experience tooltip section.
-
"Remember?" . . . I don't get anywhere near as many blind invites these day as I did back on Legacy, but I still occasionally get messages from people confused when I decline their unsolicited invite to join a +4/x8 Task Force.

I'd contend that that game -does- still exist, though, @Bill Z Bubba. Homecoming just isn't it. I can't remember the name of the server at this moment, though.
-
@CFIndustries . . . you and @Muppy need to talk.
-
Well said, @Lines. Granted, while not the original post in this thread, I -do- think some other posters have definitely tread the line on being unkind with their words. But it's also relatively easy to see how the topic touches some nerves, considering how deeply personal one's connection with the game can be.

I can't believe I got that name!
FoulVileTerror replied to DoctorDitko's topic in General Discussion
I thought that sounded familiar, @DoctorDitko: @Patti's https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/21001-i-cant-believe-i-got-that-name/?tab=comments#comment-240522 What Power Sets did you two choose? I'm guessing Sonic. Maybe Poison? -
Also, there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6JgKQFeBxs Loading Ready Run skit from late 2018.

Spouse wanted me to share this with you folks: No idea when the grand opening is going to take place.

No mention of Controllers? -
Oh, and . . . Crossbows as an option for visuals would be lovely! Naturally it would require new animations for a few Powers, but at least the basic Crossbow animations are already in the game thanks to the Circle of Thorns.

A few of the people on my Global Friend list even do a little bi-weekly get-together as a sort of elemental teen hero group. Uniformed outfits, where each one has a different focal colour to match their elemental Powers. Red is Fire. Green is Plant. Blue is Water and/or Ice. I think the issue may be that I see them on my Global Friend List, but I don't see them "in the streets," because . . . why would I? The world in this game is quite huge! My odds of randomly crossing their path is pretty small, unless I specifically stalk them based on the info in the Globals list. I suspect a similar issue may be causing the lack of apparent representation for other, similar Groups. Instanced missions and quick travel means that short of themed costume contests or some other scheduled event (like Shadeknight's recruitment faire last weekend), those thematically cohesive Groups aren't immediately visible while casually strolling around the game Zones.

Which Shard are you on, @cranebump? I see that stuff all the time on Everlasting. And thanks for the reply, @GM Tahquitz. Although, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're not part of the decision-making Team, are you? I have to admit, the whole hierarchy of the Homecoming Team, Devs, GMs, and Community Reps is rather obscure to me.

Ok, sorry. That was a little cheeky of me . . . but it's also true. Trick Arrow is one of those Sets that, on paper, is pretty amazing! It can do some pretty stellar stuff, and it has a lot of character/personality to its theme. It's basically a Control Set with the nominal title of Support! But actually playing it . . . well, it never -felt- like it was doing stuff the way that most of the other Support Sets FELT like they were DOING something. Traps, which seems to have been Trick Arrow v2.0 from a design standpoint, has a better "feel" to it, I think. Even with the last three Powers in Traps being kind of throwaways. When I play Traps, I can definitely see the impact my Powers are having in the moment. The benefits are tangible and the feedback I get from the game really makes me feel valuable with Traps. While my logical mind can deduce that "yes, Trick Arrow is having an impact," it's not as apparent. (NOTE: All of that is very subjective feedback. I'm unsure how many other people out there will actually feel the same, but there you have it all the same.) Tactical Arrow, on the other hand . . . HOOBOY! I'm not generally a fan of adding Damage to Control or Debuff Powers . . . but the way Tactical Arrow has some real OOMPH to it . . . Well, back again to the whole topic of subjectivity: I -feel- like I'm doing something when I use Tactical Arrow Powers. There's a sense of my efforts contributing to a greater whole, or even being impactful while solo. Maybe it's just the Damage component that was added . . . or maybe there's something else to it . . . I'm not entirely sure. Ultimately, though, I'm not sure Trick Arrow really needs that much of a change. MAYBE making one of the other Powers in the Set deal Energy or Fire Damage so it can ignite its own Oil Slick is all it needs. I get that the originally expressed design according to the Legacy Devs was that they expected Trick Arrow to be paired with another Set to take advantage of Oil Slick Arrow's Ignite phase . . . but really . . . is there ANY other Set in the whole game that -requires- a pairing quite like that? Even Dark Melee / Dark Armour and the whole Endurance thing being addressed with Dark Consumption doesn't seem as uncharacteristically pigeon-hole'y as the Oil Slick Arrow requiring specific Set pairings to take advantage of one of its core elements in Ignite. And no; I do not consider Taser a viable solution. Maybe for people who just play "a game" when they're on City of Heroes / Villains . . . but I feel we shouldn't have to sacrifice conceptual choices for access to fundamentals of our chosen Power Sets.

Tactical Arrow did it better.

Even what constitutes "The Game" is different from player to player -before- you get in to questions of "What is fun?" or "What is enjoyable?" I mean, I'm one of those people who's said that if you're here just for experimenting with builds, then wouldn't Mids be enough for you? That's not really fair to say, of course. It's more of a bit of snide rhetoric to try to emphasize that whole portions of gameplay or content do not necessarily define the City of Heroes / Villains experience for each of us. And that's fine. It's a good thing, even.* It absolutely SUCKS when you're someone who wants a social experience with like-minded people, but you can't seem to find those people. Good lard-and-gravy do I know how THAT feels. But lamenting how other existing players choose to engage with the game isn't going to do much but aggravate those other players. So, sure! Post threads calling out for people who might get along with you! I think that's a good way to try to find some people to enjoy the game with. Though I think there are members of this community who would do really, really well to remember that the mere existence of players who don't enjoy the game the same way as you aren't causing a problem. Short of actual toxic behaviour, just let the other players do their own thing. And if they -do- something toxic, please report it immediately. Engaging with toxicity just tends to spread it. * It would be nice to hear more about what the Homecoming Team members consider "The Game" and fun/enjoyable. Some added perspective would be helpful.

September Magic Themed Costume Contest!
FoulVileTerror replied to GM Miss's topic in Events & Contests
I have a feeling things might not be rendering the same between our ends @GM Korvin, since your message showed up as: -
Yeah, just a rough estimate, assuming about 30 staff between Devs and GMs working fulltime hours, and some other typical fees and costs, the monthly target would jump up at least another $120,000. One of the advantages of having GMs covered by the publisher, rather than the studio, was that one GM could cover multiple games' playersbases, diffuses the employee cost. Similarly, Developers could theoretically be working on multiple projects (and often are), so again the cost of employment gets diffused. If Homecoming goes legit, before we even know what a licensing fee might look like, to provide the presently-volunteer Devs with compensation for all their hard work, we would be looking at the donation model requiring some larger contributions. But really, this sort of thing should be discussed in a different thread. For the topic addressed in the original post: "Grindy" gameplay also tends to have fewer and fewer participants due to players growing wiser to the intent behind game design. If an aspect of the game was intentionally created to waste our time, damn-right we're going to reject it. It's one of the reasons I'm so staunch in encouraging the current Homecoming Devs' plans and philosophy toward game design. I'd really like to know how much critical review they've done of existing game mechanics, and if/when/how they plan to address other problem areas.

Weekly Discussion 65: Build Your Own Powerset
FoulVileTerror replied to GM Miss's topic in General Discussion
I mean, if they want to make it so all the other Control Powers can be animated optionally as being fired from a gun, or cast from a wand, that would be absolutely stellar! But for an entirely new Control Set, per the topic of discussion in this thread . . . yeah. I want to see one built from the ground up which really strikes that thematic style of Assault Rifle, Willpower, Street Justice, Martial Assault, et cetera. -
I've got Heroes of Might and Magic V running on my laptop while in City on my desktop. And then after hearing about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F80lB_pLD9E I am reconsidering . . . Well, at least I haven't bought anything from ubisoft in many years. Viva la indie game devs!
