  1. So you ended up playing free safety while the other guy blissfully blitzed. Shoot, that’s standard play outside TFs from what I’ve seen. Well...at least they’re enjoying themselves. The rest are just mom picking up the mess.
  2. Sounds pretty perfect. I'd be satisfied with a consistent group of 5.:-)
  3. The one thing you can be sure of with in-game chat is that anyone expressing interest in running something is actually there, now, ready to go. Not sure Discord is objectively better (sheesh, is anything actually objectively better when it comes to this stuff). I just know that, for me, I'd only want to be on chat with people I've gotten to know somewhat. I'd also assume that, if someone wants to turn douchebaggy, and lecture people on how to play, that, if they have to type it all, they have to be committed to stopping what they're doing to ravel out all that BS (so maybe we get saved an extended lecture from time to time?). If all you have to do is crap through a mic, well...what's to stop you? (FYI: I'm in the older age group. Pretty sure not all of us fear change. We've just seen the latest widgets come and go [I've had a PC in the home since, sheesh, the early 90s - and I was late to the party]. You adopt the new shiny not because everyone else does, but rather, if it's actually useful to you personally. One person's fearful is another person's prudent.):-)
  4. I’ve attempted using Discord to promote SG organization and play. Crickets. I report this as someone who uses the platform to run an online TTRPG campaign. Discord has served us well for that. And if I wanted to run mishes with friends (whom I cannot get to play as consistently as I), I’d use it for voice. I’d use it to organize SG stuff, if I could find consistent interest.
  5. Freakshow. Get tired of killing them twice. Don't really have a favorite, but some I'll pick as a personal nemesis for various characters. One of scrappers had it in for Malta (seemed to fit their story). Another mentioned the Family in the backstory, so naturally... Ironically, one of my tech-based Rider toons has fought so many Freaks that I'm starting to identify them as his personal pest. Now, do I like fighting them? Hell no.
  6. Well, he ain't a Rider, but gotta love me some Bane Spider Ruben: Yeah, we cleaned up alright (we and the 5 or 6 guys not in the pic).
  7. My task is clear (throws back cape, flies off, begins street sweep)
  8. Thanks to the Long Riders , I have several toons with no IO set bonuses (or a pretty limited number). If you're running mishes in default mode, just about Scrapper/Blaster/Brute/Sent (even) works. I can only comment on that to Lvl 42, which is where the highest one in that mode is parked. The biggest struggle is most often with END issues in the 20s/30s. This is one reason I've run an inordinate number of Regen sents - just to have the extra stamina, and some status protection (I grab their additional defenses from things like fighting pool, or even stealth). My most recent DM/Elec Brute seems to handle big groups pretty well, though he's far from on touchable. Only L20, so we'll see how well he holds up.
  9. What Longbow believes it is is probably more important than what they're, by definition, supposed to be. They're cops. They're a force for order. They're the Thin Blue Line. Or, they probably see themselves that way. You'd almost have to say that to yourself to stay in the organization (other than building your resume/priming yourself for a mercenary career, or career as a Superhero/Villain).
  10. I play on Excel and Torch. The former for teaming and some of the TFs. Latter for solo. Feel like maybe others do the same as, couple days ago, got on a Hess team on torch. There was my imported Excel blaster, a brute, a Def...and 5 Sentinels. 🙂 (Fun run, btw). Took a look at the Guardian AT over there (almost an a la carte menu there). Tempted to play a couple combos, but not sure how lonely I want to be. Even soloing on Torch, I can chat with friends. Smaller player pool might make that tough. Speaking of above: wouldn’t mind seeing shuriken proliferated to other ATs. Maybe Sents?
  11. This is true. It's someone using a bat as a mallet, since it has no 2-hand swings. As for the secondary, if we are focusing on baseball skills, SR would probably be the most applicable. Throw in some speed, and you have something approaching a "5-tool player" (well...with the exception of throwing, which makes me think now that maybe SS [with Hurl]/SR and Speed pool would give you that - just wouldn't have the bat unless you purchase St. Louis Slammer temp). Hit, Hit with Power, Run, Throw. Not sure where "fielding" comes in, unless we assume that's drawing aggro ("catching" enemies). All this makes me want to revisit Babe Gibson.:-)
  12. True. But I’d say that invulnerability doesn’t fit the theme if it’s based on Andre Dawson. I don’t know math much. But baseball? I’m a walking mids.:-)
  13. Pos1: Look! There’s Doc Buzzsaw! Get her! (brute rush up stairs, fight a little, plop). What the hell? Ahhhh…I see…um…you guys are down there are dealing with the ambush…okay…um…(several other teammates bars go black)….oh, uh…sorry about the additional incoming. I’ll just…lay here…ahem…
  14. My baseball bat swinger was Babe Gibson (blessed with the power of Babe Ruth and Josh Gibson). Ended up using WP because nothing else fit. For Dawson, if the theme is player-based, SR And WP both work, because Hawk was very fast early in his career (a 30 SB threat every year), and then played through pain later on (gimpy knees). He also had a very quick bat (so, SR again) and a cannon arm (so maybe one of his arms is cybernetic?). Great player. Class act. And a Cubby for a few prime seasons so...good call.:-)
  15. Okay, shout out to @Darmian (and a lifetime membership to the Riders) for running OG TF's and getting the TFC badge through ouro. That's a Praerotian salute for our resident Goldsider!
  16. Okay, Riders. I've got some time tonight, and Rick Sterling ready to take on Faultline arcs. Hit me up, even if I ain't ridin', an' I'll switch over! Eee-hee-hee...
  17. Passed 25 yrs as a secondary teacher. I am vet level 10,000. My perception is maxed out. I can spot bullshit before it enters the area.
  18. Sweet! I'll be lookin' for ya, kemosabe. Did a bit of Tracklshin' tonight: Gettin' my Freak on (or off...one of the two).
  19. Ah, okay. (Duh...don't know why I didn't just go right there. So used to stacking Infil+Sprint+Athletic Run, etc. for basic get around, I guess).
  20. Last time I scripted, the tools menu would not appear during testing. I could not autokill, or jump to next objective, etc. That's the only issue I've seen, however.
  21. Assuming you didn't want to fly through everything (because you find SS disorienting on mish maps), can you get a similar effect with a stealth proc in Sprint, then run Sprint+Infiltration? I run a lot of "low to the ground" PCs, and will often that to move a bit faster, but not so fast I fly past things.
  22. Been running contact mishes fairly regularly for a few weeks now (on and off, through the Long Riders SG). While I find a lot of the old mishes have those repeated, tedious hunts, I don't find a lot of them "stupid." Or rather, I don't find them any stupider than missions I've gotten in other MMOs. I do think that the older arcs lack of cut scenes to push the narrative makes them appear worse than they are (that, along with an over-reliance on "hunt X _____s" and "Talk to ________"). Without those scenes, the story is much more text dependent. Details are less blatant and, frankly, less interesting due to the lack of visuals (imho-and I say this as someone who enjoys well-written stuff). In the final analysis, all game stories boil down to defeat, collect, or escort, with some traitor mechanics/ambushes and talkies thrown in. The rest is window dressing (which, for our more dated stories, could be better I admit). This isn't a video game devoted to a straight narrative, focused on a single character. As a catch-all milieu, with various environments delivering different tones and themes, I think there's enough out there that is still pretty good (decent?). Would agree we could use some spit and polish, though.
  23. Of COURSE The Row is a dump. That’s why it stands out. Put it Redside, it’s just another zone. Kings Row-the home of moxie:-)
