Yes! Charts! And stuff, too! Don't forget the stuff, damnit! So, I missed some things in this was-already-too-long-three-pages-ago thread. Of what I did miss, I think the comment I like best is, I know you're not that stupid, because it throws the target a modicum of faux respect while still insinuating, "but you ARE still stupid--let's not forget that." (masterful...). It brings to mind my traditional response to students who ask me to consider things I've no inclination of considering, which prompts me to reply to them as follows: I'll give that all the consideration it is due.🙂

Is there such a thing as societal norms in CoH?
cranebump replied to Ukase's topic in General Discussion
On the whole, doesn't seem like it's really worth an argument. Run 'til completion, then hop off. Beyond that, I'm in the camp of, if you don't want to gamble with PuGs, don't join them. Sucks if you get on one that has an issue, but there's a difference between my own issues and others. Since I never start any groups myself these days, I just hop along for the ride. My only real issue is when we have someone who makes the experience socially unpleasant. Had this happen a couple times lately with a leader who wanted a very specific playstyle and was militant about it, to the point of repeating the same instructions like a drill sergeant, each and every time we went to a mish (and these were contact mishes, not TFs). Stuck with it for a bit, then politely sent my merry way. I'm not going to change their behavior, after all. And there are plenty of other groups forming if you run on Excel. P.S. Ran into the same group leader running a different toon. Didn't realize until mish started. Got off that one quick, too. Wasn't just playstyle. It was Ethos, as in "everyone else plays the game the wrong way but me." (sigh...Life's too short, and this is a silly video game, sez I). -
Running some Night Ward with Trackie today. Blap! What could possibly go wrong? Recovered alt-Winkley's winky...er, remains. participated in ritual. Annnnnd now what? Talons of Vengeance - that's what. Winding up... And finally... I get some help from Undead Montague, "Ward" (aka Spellfather) who was VERY hard on Lady Baddude (in the corner up there). Nice arcs!

Yep. I was going to suggest that one too, but for the anchor powers. I haven’t run a lot of support toons since coming back, but I remember being a big fan of Rad/Rad Defenders. Hmmm….may have to log in with my Assistance and Support Bot (or…Assbot).

Do you use the presence power pool to get controls?
cranebump replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
I've grown to like Invoke Panic, and use it consistently on the tanks/brutes that have it. Picked up the powerset for Unrelenting on a lark for what became my 50 AR/TA blaster. I sometimes use Invoke Panic was a bailout if I somehow get surrounded. -
So, as I'm running Temblor, he sez, "Hey, you ever worked with this guy?": Lean onnnn me! When you're not sto-... (ahem...okay, correction) Even when you're stronnng! Just don't use your guns. Those thangs are dannnnngerous. And It won't be long 'Til you shoot some Tsoo And they go booooooo hoo... (ahhh... so eloquent, Vitaly...) Okay, so it's just Tsoo Shennigans again. But, c'mon - looka that BEARD! Plus, he's solid as a rock. You can lean on him for days.

PVP or where on the doll did the PvPers touch you
cranebump replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
There are zones for PvP. Not sure why we need to proliferate them to the PvE area. I recall playing Champions OL, and seeing that stupid rocket thing embedded in the central area of Millienim City, slays with a pair of people running around and around it. For some reason, it was always an eye-roller for me. That said, Hero vs Villain teams might be interesting to me, if the ATs were locked by ethos the way they used to be. Everything is such a hodgepodge now, it makes little difference. On the question at hand, though: doesn’t seem like a popular idea. I’m not sure what is gained by it. Not sure anything is lost, either, Save having to dodge it when it happens, as I would not be participating. -
Also in favor of more animation choices. Though I would like to have shuriken (martial assault) for a blaster or a sentinel.

Sounds pretty perfect. I'd be satisfied with a consistent group of 5.:-)

The one thing you can be sure of with in-game chat is that anyone expressing interest in running something is actually there, now, ready to go. Not sure Discord is objectively better (sheesh, is anything actually objectively better when it comes to this stuff). I just know that, for me, I'd only want to be on chat with people I've gotten to know somewhat. I'd also assume that, if someone wants to turn douchebaggy, and lecture people on how to play, that, if they have to type it all, they have to be committed to stopping what they're doing to ravel out all that BS (so maybe we get saved an extended lecture from time to time?). If all you have to do is crap through a mic, well...what's to stop you? (FYI: I'm in the older age group. Pretty sure not all of us fear change. We've just seen the latest widgets come and go [I've had a PC in the home since, sheesh, the early 90s - and I was late to the party]. You adopt the new shiny not because everyone else does, but rather, if it's actually useful to you personally. One person's fearful is another person's prudent.):-)

I’ve attempted using Discord to promote SG organization and play. Crickets. I report this as someone who uses the platform to run an online TTRPG campaign. Discord has served us well for that. And if I wanted to run mishes with friends (whom I cannot get to play as consistently as I), I’d use it for voice. I’d use it to organize SG stuff, if I could find consistent interest.

Freakshow. Get tired of killing them twice. Don't really have a favorite, but some I'll pick as a personal nemesis for various characters. One of scrappers had it in for Malta (seemed to fit their story). Another mentioned the Family in the backstory, so naturally... Ironically, one of my tech-based Rider toons has fought so many Freaks that I'm starting to identify them as his personal pest. Now, do I like fighting them? Hell no.
-
Well, he ain't a Rider, but gotta love me some Bane Spider Ruben: Yeah, we cleaned up alright (we and the 5 or 6 guys not in the pic).

My task is clear (throws back cape, flies off, begins street sweep)

Best all around solo character (no AVs/Monsters)
cranebump replied to Ravenprince's topic in Archetypes
Thanks to the Long Riders , I have several toons with no IO set bonuses (or a pretty limited number). If you're running mishes in default mode, just about Scrapper/Blaster/Brute/Sent (even) works. I can only comment on that to Lvl 42, which is where the highest one in that mode is parked. The biggest struggle is most often with END issues in the 20s/30s. This is one reason I've run an inordinate number of Regen sents - just to have the extra stamina, and some status protection (I grab their additional defenses from things like fighting pool, or even stealth). My most recent DM/Elec Brute seems to handle big groups pretty well, though he's far from on touchable. Only L20, so we'll see how well he holds up. -
What Longbow believes it is is probably more important than what they're, by definition, supposed to be. They're cops. They're a force for order. They're the Thin Blue Line. Or, they probably see themselves that way. You'd almost have to say that to yourself to stay in the organization (other than building your resume/priming yourself for a mercenary career, or career as a Superhero/Villain).

I play on Excel and Torch. The former for teaming and some of the TFs. Latter for solo. Feel like maybe others do the same as, couple days ago, got on a Hess team on torch. There was my imported Excel blaster, a brute, a Def...and 5 Sentinels. 🙂 (Fun run, btw). Took a look at the Guardian AT over there (almost an a la carte menu there). Tempted to play a couple combos, but not sure how lonely I want to be. Even soloing on Torch, I can chat with friends. Smaller player pool might make that tough. Speaking of above: wouldn’t mind seeing shuriken proliferated to other ATs. Maybe Sents?

This is true. It's someone using a bat as a mallet, since it has no 2-hand swings. As for the secondary, if we are focusing on baseball skills, SR would probably be the most applicable. Throw in some speed, and you have something approaching a "5-tool player" (well...with the exception of throwing, which makes me think now that maybe SS [with Hurl]/SR and Speed pool would give you that - just wouldn't have the bat unless you purchase St. Louis Slammer temp). Hit, Hit with Power, Run, Throw. Not sure where "fielding" comes in, unless we assume that's drawing aggro ("catching" enemies). All this makes me want to revisit Babe Gibson.:-)

True. But I’d say that invulnerability doesn’t fit the theme if it’s based on Andre Dawson. I don’t know math much. But baseball? I’m a walking mids.:-)
