The Upside Park Graffiti Wall Duck Hunt! (FINISHED!)
GraspingVileTerror replied to Wravis's topic in Everlasting
I mean, I could potentially offer the coordinates for the Yellow Duckie in a complex mathematical formula to try and obfuscate it, maybe? That's totally @Wravis' decision, though. -
uh . . . wut? https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Rogue_Island_Police https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Praetorian_Police_Department Definitely not Heroside patron material.

The lack of a Tom Cruise sweater as a profile image gives me the impression that these posts aren't trolling, but genuine difficulty breaking from old habits and assumptions perpetuated by other games. People are creatures of habit, and some folks have much more difficulty breaking free from habits and the assumptions that spawned them than others. I also suspect there are some other factors at play, but I have no real evidence to back it up, so I'll continue to also give benefits of doubt here. Simplest advice for you @Diantane: Try to forget everything any other game has taught you before now, and learn City of Heroes from a fresh perspective. Things are different here.

If you were the one who recommended UBlock Origin to me, @DoctorDitko, please allow me to extend my thanks! It's been operating much more reliably than my previous adblocker. But adblockers aside, malware attacks are still too much of a risk to bother with fandom as far as I'm concerned. Particularly when there are better options available. Frustratingly, uberguy's website doesn't render for me. All it shows up as is:

What ever happened to the Gadgetry Powerpool?
GraspingVileTerror replied to PeregrineFalcon's topic in General Discussion
Would you be willing to elaborate on what you mean in regard to the Homecoming players' interaction you mentioned, @twozerofoxtrot? -
Well, at the very least, it's explicit that the Superadyne which the Family use for their Bosses is a not-make-dumb-Troll variant. That implicitly suggests something wrong with the version the Trolls use, and suggests that the dosage which the Skulls and their customers use are sufficiently low to avoid Trollification. . . . wait. What was the original purpose of this thread again?
-
Dang. Well . . . Thanks for the information, @TwoDee. New Headcanon! The Trollification of Superadyne use is due to impurities, right? Perhaps the Destroyification of Fixadine is also related to impurities?

Hey! @arcane or @Glacier Peak; would one of you mind editing your initial post to include: Just to help other users avoid unnecessary headaches, please? -
Oo! Between @Siouxsie and @TwoDee, I think I have a new headcanon forming! We never did get an answer to the original source of Superadyne, did we? But Fixadyne is from Duncan/Dominatrix right? Does the canon say where she got/made it? Could it be derived from her blood, similar to the Arachnoids being made from Recluse's blood? Being a descendant of Cole must mean there's SOMETHING in her blood, right? So what if Superadyne is derived from cloned tissue from a Primal Incarnate or Incarnate-descendant? What if the changes to the Trolls and Destroyers are manifestations akin to the Arachnoid's mutations? The hamsters are now running at full tilt!

My Roleplay Problem: I Suck at Clubbing
GraspingVileTerror replied to GraspingVileTerror's topic in Roleplaying
That's an interesting perspective, @Ukase, and oddly . . . it helps! The characters who I wanted to bring to the clubs don't actually fit the paradigms you suggest, even if I think they're rather reductionist and narrow personally. But then, I don't "get" clubbing in real life, so maybe that's all related. So, seems some of my characters might fit in at the clubs better if they had friends to go with them, OR they were predatory creepers. Since I don't want to subject random players I don't know very well to any extra creepiness (I'm plenty creepy already, thanks for asking!), I suppose this means friends are a necessity. Granted . . . many of the clubs on Everlasting are not heteronormative as I understand it, so there's a chance these paradigms aren't necessarily appropriate here. -
The Upside Park Graffiti Wall Duck Hunt! (FINISHED!)
GraspingVileTerror replied to Wravis's topic in Everlasting
To help urge this along, with @Wravis' permission, I'll throw an extra prize out to someone if they catch the Yellow Duckie. If they're is okay with it, Wravis already knows what sort of prize might be on offer. *wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. Horrific tentacle flail, horrific tentacle flail* -
Other than the Riot Shield, all of those can be acquired as Temp Powers. Naturally, customization and Slotting would be nice, and not having to park the character for Day Job refills (but Day Job improvements are a different thread), but at least one can simulate the theme with existing game content. Note: This is coming from someone who is perhaps -the most- vocal about getting some more Natural Power Sets up in this joint . . . so . . . something to consider, maybe.
-
Well, not unless the +Recharge from Flurry was mutually exclusive from Hasten, lest players just take BOTH and aim for obscenity by stacking.
-
Oh, also @xl8? Please NEVER use the fandom wikis! For your own computer's safety, we can't strongly stress enough how important it is not to go to those websites. Their ad services have been hacked by malware distributors on at least two occasions. As @Glacier Peak linked, the Homecoming Wiki or the old Paragon Wiki Archive are the two safe sources for information. The Homecoming Wiki is also updated on a decent basis, thanks to volunteers from this community. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/clubs/2-unofficial-homecoming-wiki/

What ever happened to the Gadgetry Powerpool?
GraspingVileTerror replied to PeregrineFalcon's topic in General Discussion
Given that Homecoming completed the Force of Will and Experimentation Origin Pools, I'm not sure the fact that other servers out there have completed Gadgetry and Utility Belt is any reason for Homecoming not to finish them. Gadgetry seems the most simple in terms of animations. Hitting the correct values of -Regen, however, might be where things get tricky. Also, as a Tier 5, Force Barrier is really lacklustre as just a temporary Absorb shield. Utility Belt has the stumbling block of Bolas. Getting an animation for THAT is potentially going to require some original assets. But folks in these forums have offered suggestions in the past on how to get around that, so it's not like there aren't some good ideas. I also think it would be cool if Athletics could give you an Endurance Recovery Buff as long as you're holding still. Achievable by having the Power periodically drop invisible pseudopets which have a very small Auto Recovery Aura effect which only targets the user. Really set it apart from Infiltration as a Travel Power that way. -
Classified as Prestige Attacks, rather than Temp, the Origin Specific Ranged Attacks are odd in that they scale -down- in proportionate damage as you increase your Security/Threat Level. Note: From what I can see, Damage values change between Archetypes and Level, and Debuff values change Archetypes. Durations and Control Magnitude do not change.

On your character in the game servers.

Flurry presently has a small chance to Stun, right? Maybe Flurry should be a moderate-to-high chance to Confuse instead. After all, there are already plenty of Pool and Ancillary Powers which can Slot Stun Sets. It would be nifty if everyone had the opportunity for a weak Confuse (and naturally more potent for Controllers and Dominators).

New Emote Suggestions: Sign Language

For all ASL signs, naturally we'd need individual fingers, but 9 of those 12 examples would still be valid regardless, along with dozens more common words. -

MassivelyOP Article on City of Heroes 2
GraspingVileTerror replied to Apparition's topic in General Discussion
Well, looks like we're going there . . . We don't even have to dig deep; content in City of Heroes from the earliest Legacy days up to Homecoming's own additions are multifaceted. Yes, it's true that there are some comically oversimplified depictions of morality in the game. There are also plenty of nuanced examples. The short of it: City of Heroes is -not- a game of strict black-and-white morality. Some content follows some tropes, while other content flaunts them. And that is a -good- thing! It's one of the core strengths of City that we have such disparate representations in the lore and content. If players want to choose to keep things simple, they may absolutely choose to gloss over details and read only a surface level. But just as we talk about how important it is for players to be able to choose the way they play this game, we also need to remember how important it is to make sure that players have space to engage with the narrative aspects of the game on multiple levels. Some people want their True Good versus True Evil. Other people like the depth and intrigue of comprehensive social commentary (albeit, we could use a little more work there). And others still don't even care, so long as they see pretty colours and bright explosions, and have crunchy visceral sound effects. City's got a little bit of something for everyone. And as long as the Homecoming Team are willing to continue that, I think we'll be in good shape. -
Favorite neighborhood music?
GraspingVileTerror replied to Deuce Spade's topic in General Discussion
@Icono04, I don't know if any complete collections of the music if MP3 format exist, but if you'd like, here's an online OGG-to-MP3 converter that you could use to compile such a collection: https://cloudconvert.com/ogg-to-mp3 -
Favorite neighborhood music?

https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/19502-favourite-piece-of-in-game-music/ Still gotta say that Fort Blood and J13_Loop have special places in my mass of tentacles. -
Going to try to remember off the top of my head, so "spoilers" if I get any of these correct, but . . . Vahzilok = zombots. Extremely rudimentary AI, but apparently able to play back recorded audio or mimic human speech? Bastion/Citadel and Luminary = AI modelled after human brain scans. 5th Column/Council (Rogue) Robots = older models are Vandal's attempt to create AI from scratch, later models use Bastion/Citadel's stolen AI code. Sky Raiders = rudimentary AI but all machines have tele-operation features so a commander can hotseat and override the AI. Malta = drones/turrets have limited AI, but mechs house human brains. Nemesis = incredibly complex and nigh-microscopic clockwork brains which simulate AI and even personality and emotion. More advanced versions are reserved for important dopplegangers and Fake Nemeses, while easier-to-mass-produce versions with limited capacities are used in the T.P.S. Report Automatons and Jaegers. Warhulks appear to have pilots, but I'm not certain on the details. Primal Clockwork = not actually robots. Praetorian Clockwork = what @Latex said, most likely. I never really looked in to them. Warworks = see above. Battle Orbs = almost assuredly just robots. Arachnos = unclear. They're not beyond using human body parts in otherwise mechanical forces (see Tarantula Programme), but Arachnobots, Drones, and Spiderlings seem to be purely mechanical? Rikti = drones are machines. The name and descriptions of the Heavy Assault Suits imply there's a pilot inside. Vanguard H.V.A.S. = also implied to be a suit, which suggests there's a pilot inside. Probably not the case for the Mini-H.V.A.S. vanity pet, though, but maybe there's a fairy piloting that? Longbow Cataphract and Mech = implied to be automatons (ie: Robots with limited AI). Paragon Police Department = combination of robotics and hazard suits, depending on the level range. Turrets = probably just simple targeting subroutines, but maybe some factions shove human brains in there or use teleoperations? Crey = no robots near as I've ever seen, which is a bit odd. Mainly just clones and people in hazard suits, by all accounts. Gold Brickers = guys with golden face paint, and definitely not robots. I think that about sums it up for any group with either robots or things-that-could-be-mistaken-for-robots. Did I miss any?
