November 2021 Donations & Finances

Hallowe'en is a holiday somewhere in the world? Well, dang. I might actually have a reason to move . . . -
What if we added a "Convert to Specific Enhancement" at x10 the cost? So, law of averages says you'll still get lucky by roll #6 . . . but if you'd rather not take your chances, you get the option to just sink the extra Converters and get your guaranteed result. If it's still too powerful, make it a "once every 18 hours" sort of thing?

Hear-hear. Likewise for the Villain Epic Archetype Story Arcs, please!

I'm not 100% sure, but if my understanding of how the coding works in relation to enabling Invention Sets on various Powers, it would be possible to create a new category of Invention: Damage Bonus. While the individual Enhancements in such a Set would not be able to directly modify the value of the +Damage Bonus in Assault (or Siphon Power, or Fulcrum Shift, et cetera), it would be possible to create a series of Set Bonuses which focus on things like Global +Damage Bonus for a player. Likewise for Powers which have -Resistance Debuff. Can't directly enhance it, but they -could- create an entirely new category of Inventions that can be slotted in to such Powers (ie: Sonic Siphon, Envenom, et cetera).

Today I ran a pumpkin carving tutorial at the community centre I work at: (as before, please feel free to guess which one(s) are my creations.) After work, I went to my mom's place to carve pumpkins there too! Those photos didn't turn out so well, so I'll try to snag fresh ones tomorrow when they're all lit up.

The Upside Park Graffiti Wall Duck Hunt! (FINISHED!)

Well done, @TorrentYed. -
Perhaps antithetical to City of Heroes, the first Darkest Dungeon game is a grim masterpiece, and a game which I feel deserves a lot of the praise it receives. If you like Mike Mignola's artistic style, or really challenging games, or DEEP BARITONE VOICES ASSERTING VERBOSE BUT SULLEN NARRATION OF YOUR ACTIONS ... then Darkest Dungeon is certainly worth a try. However, this thread isn't about Darkest Dungeon; it's about the sequel! Just now I learnt about it, and it looks absolutely fantastic! The new gameplay and art are very compelling to me, and I really -really- like how relationships between the player's characters is now taking a more significant role in the core gameplay. About the only thing I'm feeling tepid regarding is the exclusivity with Epic during the early access period. I really hope the game will be released without the need for third party distributors, but those kinds of wishes are becoming quite unlikely these days. If it ends up getting released on Itch.IO, then I'll snap it up in a heartbeat. If on GOG . . . I'll give it some serious thought. If it's only going to be on Epic and Steam? As much as I want the game, forget it. Not worth it. And, hey! Here's hoping that some of the Homecoming Devs get around to checking the game out (and the original too). There's plenty of inspiration to be found in exploring the methods which the Red Hook team articulate their ludonarrative abstractions. In simpler terms: "Using the game rules to reinforce the point of the game's story's themes and tone, rather than having the gameplay and story being divorced." I really think there's a lot of room for improvement and experimentation here in that department.

Pv2 Vendor sell a Permanent or temp hold power
GraspingVileTerror replied to MsSmart's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think there's an error there. I am fairly sure that every trainer is TF-friendly. Hell, you can even pop out of a Trial, hit a Trainer, and then jump back in to a Trial (at least for Death From Below, Drowning in Blood, and Summer Blockbuster. Remind me tomorrow, and I'll test to confirm whether it's possible with Kane's as well). As far as I know, only Contacts and P2W Vendors (excepting the Pocket D Vendor) will decline speaking to a player who's currently in Task Force mode. Regardless of either of those, I believe the /selectbuild command is always available ( https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Select_build_(Slash_Command) ), so some preplanning may potentially be helpful in some scenarios. Of course, that doesn't help if you find yourself in a situation where you unexpectedly lost a teammate with the kind of Power your team needed, and it sucks to consider having to cannibalize a whole Build for something like that if you have other plans for your alt Builds already. And I'll be clear that I'm not against the idea of having more avenues available to players to get diverse Power picks in their builds, whether it be expensive P2W items, rewards for completing content, Day Jobs and other unique paths, or entirely new methods yet to be established. I'm a firm supporter of giving players more options to grow outward and progress laterally. I just wanted to address what I believe to be a mistake related to access to Trainers and alt-builds while in a Task Force. -
Pv2 Vendor sell a Permanent or temp hold power
GraspingVileTerror replied to MsSmart's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
These tangents get really tedious. Let's make it real simple: The Homecoming Team doesn't -NEED- to do anything. Period. It's a colossal waste of time to single -any- suggestion out as something "that doesn't need to happen." In the same vein, the entire game is optional for players. Shooting down any suggestion with "it's optional" is just as pointless. -

What else are you playing right now?
GraspingVileTerror replied to NNDeepdish's topic in Video Games
Finally got around to playing SOMA. I already knew it was good based on watching Let Us Play videos of it and doing research on the game. I bought a copy just to try to show my support to the developers, but knew my old computer would never be able to run it. Now that I've had this computer for about a year, I'm slowly working through my backlog of games that I never got around to. SOMA was near the top of the pile. Even got to find an audio recording that all of the streamers I had watched missed! Was nice to see a little part of the game I had never been exposed to before. -

'Map failed to start' on character completion
GraspingVileTerror replied to Kiryn's topic in Help & Support
I know this comes a bit late, @Kiryn, so I hope that things worked out for you, but ... Based on the time you posted, it sounds like you managed to log in to the servers and started making your character around 8:30am eastern. The servers are shut down weekly for maintenance on Tuesdays at 9am eastern (with rare exception). This would explain why you couldn't log in after making your character. But as @lemming says, it's a great habit to get in to save your character's Costume file and Power customization file each time. On top of that, as lemming said, as long as you don't shut down your client and just proceed when the servers are back up, your character should be saved in a buffer. If you shut down the client program, though, and didn't save any costume/power files, then regrettably you would need to start over from scratch. Let us know how it went, and what you ended up naming your first character. I'll try to pass you something through in-game email to soften the blow if you lost your first creation. -
I tend to check out Globals, and then use the in-game email to send gifts. Less of an issue with having to chase them down that way.

The Upside Park Graffiti Wall Duck Hunt! (FINISHED!)
GraspingVileTerror replied to Wravis's topic in Everlasting
Back from work, and up to three now. . . . @Wravis, do you have a policy on whether contestants may engage in teamwork for this hunt? -
You may have noticed a particularly large thread where we had a number of conversations with members of the Homecoming Team has recently vanished, @Glacier Peak. And there's a difference between using discord as a form of outreach for the community, and using it for official matters related to development of source code. A BIG difference.
-
The question of ethics is one that some members of this community have been asking for some clarity on the Homecoming Team's stance for a while, actually. Presently, though, it is my understanding* that the Homecoming Team will not add anything to this server which isn't specifically licensed to them or licensed under CC0 ( https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/public-domain/cc0/ ). Basically, they server exists within a legally "iffy" space, and they generally try to avoid tipping the scale (which, again, makes me wonder why discord is being used in any official capacity, given its T.o.U.). *Note: I may have misunderstood my source on this matter. I had hoped for some additional clarity in the conversation, but they've been rather quiet for months now. As far as why Homecoming doesn't seem to be including content by outside Devs who -have- presented said content to Homecoming . . . well . . . those threads have all disappeared, and I don't know the details of what happened.

If the issues with glamourizing "the G-word" ( https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/17370-gambling/page/3/?tab=comments#comment-395752 ) weren't so pressing, I'd suggest the Devs implement something akin to https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/15702-monkey-fight-club-its-not-a-secret-anymore/ in an official capacity. In the absence of the in-game casinos having functional games of chance tied strictly to Inf, fishing almost sounds like a fun idea. On top of that, maybe finally get that Hellion Golf thing officiated, and make it so the best set of golf clubs cost upwards of 500,000,000 Inf. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/16366-is-atlas-park-hellion-golf-still-possible/ Of course, -everyone- should have access to fishing and golf, not just the ultra wealthy. I'm just suggesting that there are plenty of places we can charge the notoriously rich for minor luxuries.

Mercenaries as a Power Pool
GraspingVileTerror replied to Take One's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
You know, I kind of thought this was a joke suggestion at first . . . but I'm warming up to it as a potential improvement. Although . . . as a Pool Set, there is a slight issue with getting Spec Ops at level 4. Since it's theoretically possible already (although, I hope no one does this in error presently) a Mastermind can skip their Henchpet Powers and take the Upgrade Powers, it perhaps make sense to swap Spec Ops and Equip in the order there. I think that completely Customizable NPC Sidekicks should be unlocked through a separate process from Pools though. Perhaps tied in to the Anti-Incarnate System that I eternally dream of. -
