  1. I have 4 poison toons each a different AT. My poison defender is a poison/rad defender. Any poison toons aside of a poison MM should be built to withstand the horrors of melee combat in my opinion. With radiation you have irradiate, neutron bomb, and atomic blast which are effective in melee for aoes that really pair well with poison. Your debuffs will really neuter things around you so there's not much damage coming in and mez prot used to be essential (still kinda is) as venomous gas would get toggle dropped but now with suppression it works out better overall. Poison does use quite a bit of endurance so planning for that is useful. But yes you can build a poison defender to tank AVs, mine has provoke for just such occasion.
  2. I will agree that soul drain is great, but I wouldn't necessarily put soul as the end all be all of Dominators' epic pools. Ice is amazing as a dominator epic pool. Although you're making a fire/psi (make that they work great), I'd also suggest an Illusion/Savage as you originally wanted to try savage. It's a combo that is highly mobile and pops in an out of fights and is really fun to play.
  3. I didn't know that you considered me a friend.
  4. Since reward merits to ATOs or Winters have the same cost, why not have the packs have the same cost and equalize their pricing over time on the market. Since the Hero/Villain packs can have multiple ATOs in then I think the 10 million price is realistically reasonable. The same is true with Winter Packs. Keeping the price to 10 mil would prevent the price of resold IOs from them from bottoming it out, but also give a reasonable bubble for some to play the market.
  5. https://cod.uberguy.net/html/power.html?power=warshade_defensive.umbral_aura.black_dwarf_antagonize&at=warshade Acc is used in PvP for Antagonize, but not needed in PvE.
  6. Welcome back after the holidays. Although some people have their main characters, this game by and far lends itself to those that get addicted to rolling new alts. How many alts do you have? Are they level 50 or did you park some permanently lower than 50? What motivates you to make a new alt? Personally I find myself making quite a few alts as I tend to get an itch to try a concept (for example I'm currently working on a fire/ea/lev troller that draws mobs in via foldspace and fire cages them to cook them in bonfire, hotfeet, and waterspout. I already know it won't be the strongest character, but it's an interesting power interaction that I hadn't tried). I typically don't count an alt unless it's 50, but I have a permanent lowbie that's meant to be a street level character that relies on temp powers and uses guns that the story background and character name leave me with the occasional chuckle. So what alts are you into? When do you have the urge to play them? Are there any that have a sole job like MSR or Hami raids, or a niche pvp event?
  7. @SnarkyI have an ice/dark/dark corruptor on one of my accounts that is very beastly. I like building for m/r and was pumping recharge for perma soul drain. Dark miasma is a powerhouse of a powerset.
  8. I think the main reason the sale stopped is that people would buy 200 of them at 10 mil a pop then hold that until the sale was over and resell the contents back on the market once the market price had stabilized to their non holiday level. It was an easy way to take say a 2 bil influence investment and turn it into potentially 10+ billion influence after finishing the sales back on the market.
  9. Try Dark Control. Umbra Beast can be pretty strong, you can pair it with something like Thermal, give it.shields and forge. Or any other buffing set you want.
  10. Illusion Control has 3 pets that are immune to all damage aside of the crystal titan and Hamidon, hold agro, and deal some damage. You also get another pet that does damage and makes a copy of itself. Among other powers.
  11. The most toxic thing in the community IMO is people willingly power leveling random people. Although it seems like a nice gesture, it makes for people that don't understand how to get to various zones for running content, and can rob them of experiencing the game. As a result of this, then LFG gets flooded with leeches begging to be power leveled. I'm a farmer sure enough, but I farm only myself, or people that I know to be competent with the game. That all said, yes help new people. Show them how to run content, story arcs, take them out of the comfort of the AE or PI and bring them to the Shadow Shard, or Nightward, or running missions in Cimerora, or goldside. Teach them to make their own builds rather than giving them a.copy of yours, encourage self discovery and offer guidance along the way. Teach them to lead their own teams, and take a backseat to their leadership, allow them to stumble and learn. Doing that, is the best way to be kind.
  12. I'm in the opposite school of thought in that Gale is a 2 slot wonder power using a kb2kd and a FF proc. O2 boost on an AT that doesn't have pets kind of a waste. Storm summoning is a a debuff/damage set, and a single target heal/mez is counter to the sets strengths. Gale has a 80° arc with a 50-foot depth which when used effectively is a huge mitigation tool that triggers force feedback quite frequently. Snowstorm is fairly end intensive I'll agree that its cost add to a fairly end intense build. I'll usually take it as it does have decent utility but often leave it as a 1 slot wonder.towards the end of a build when I have tools for sustainability. Hurricane is a set defining power and an absolutely huge debuff to tohit and range. Yes it does require planning to use it effectively as it will move mobs. People worry about melee, but hurricane is also a solo player's melee mitigation as it will force targets out of melee range and protect you from heavy hitting melee attacks. Thunderclap can often be skipped in most builds as you have a lot of tools to work with but you can stack it on a group and use geyser to reliably disorient bosses and the occasional EB/AV. Additionally since the previous poster mentioned soul, I would strongly recommend dark mastery as soul drain has a 120 second base recharge on it while on soul mastery it has a 240 base recharge. Since you'll be building for a significant amount of recharge, if you go for dark mastery it's possible to build a for perma soul drain. Dark Consumption can help with endurance, but I would use IOs, accolades, and maybe incarnates to deal with endurance. Oppressive Gloom is a mag 2 stun, so that can stack again with Thunderclap. Ultimately though it's your toon, you'll build it how you want as we all have different play styles.
  13. I used to say this back on live. At one point before taskforce commander came out I had ran probably close to 1,000 iterations of the blue side TFs with my empathy/energy def. That said in today's game with IOs and such empathy is often a bit overkill unless playing PvP. Since the post is about Taskforces on the buffing side it's hard to beat Electrical Affinity. On the Debuffing side, it's hard to beat Trick Arrow. The question about limiting a defender to only one choice is a fallacy in its own right as just about any powerset available to defenders is worth playing.
  14. Of the Freedom Phalanx TFs, the only one where it's difficult to have a sub 1 hour completion time is 1 hour. Yes it's doable, as I've done it with several premade teams, but your average pug is typically going to clock in over an hour. 1 hour in my mind is usually the gold standard for how much time is reasonable to allocate to playing. Sometimes I can play longer, sometimes I can play less, but that seems like a reasonable time to shoot for if the Synapse TF in particular ever had some fat trimmed.
  15. Having my own small private server, the only way I could see it working would be that Homecoming would have to run them as separate shards as influence/IOs can be emailed in game across servers and the AH is pooled and merged together. As @Greycatsaid it would fork the development efforts of the small team HC has in place. Pragmatism would suffice to say that although an interesting idea, given limited resources it's likely a nonstarter. Addendum: another situation would be be preventing server transfers to the special server, which is another related issue to the problem.
  16. @Diantaneis back in the house! The best Sentinel Epic is Psionic Mastery so you can take a procedure out Dominate and Mind Probe and make an attack chain out of those attacks as they'll typically hit harder than your primary attacks. Also it has Linked Minds.
  17. Steamy mist stays on all the time unless there's an NPC escort. Hurricane is situationally used to corral NPCs into a corner or some other geometry and then let them bathe in it's debuff while raining on their parade. You'll want to build to be sturdy enough what the content you're looking for, and then pump as much recharge as you can, as you want 3 lightning storms and absolute chaos.
  18. Taking my daughter to the north pole to meet Santa Claus here this week so we've been busy packing for the plane ride. We'll resume these unofficial discussions January 3rd. Happy Holidays to all.
  19. The server with no 2xp already exists it's Rebirth, but it's not on Homecoming. Like others have said using the 2xp booster is optional. Hell you can even shut up off all together in general as well if you want.
  20. You'd be surprised. Selling in volume can net a pretty penny.
  21. The truest form of validation on your character's costume was an old joke sg some of my old pvp team assembled for a bit called the Fashion Police back on Guardian. We'd run around and issue citations to ppl in horrible costumes, telling them they need to report to icon at once or pay a hefty fine. We had an sg uniform where we looked like police officers out of reno 911.
  22. Also speaking of Costume Contests, is there a reason people are still doing them in Atlas Park? It eliminates the possibly of any Red Side or Gold Side toon from competing. The HC Dev team created Echo Plaza for things like costume contests and the like which anyone can go to without having to change their alignment.
  23. Pretty bad, lots of empty slots, weird set bonus chases and under utilizing abilities. You want 90% fire resistance, this is very easy to achieve on fire armor. You want 45% fire defense, but also having ranged defense in particular these days will be helpful due to the incoming popshots of mobs outside your max agro limits. I typically recommend mu mastery for fences to imob mobs in burn and apply annihilation proc. Also maximizing buildup/fiery embrace up time is useful. There's lots of guides/builds on the forums for farming, I'd recommend searching the forums for a page 5 build.
  24. It's seems to me that most costume contests have predetermined winners planted amongst the contestants as a means of gifting large sums of influence and other prizes to people in effort to pay back gambling debts without raising the ire of the Paragon City I.R.S. branch. That's the only logical explanation why I haven't ever won any costume contest.
  25. I do a bit of farming, but mainly I have fun trying new builds and powerset combinations, so I have an assortment below... Fire Farming: Spines/Fire Brute Rad/Fire Brute SS/Fire Brute Fire/Ice Blaster and a team of 3 Robotics MM, a style made popular by @Neiska S/L Farming: Spines/Elec Tank Rad/Dark Tank Ice/Dark Corruptor Fire/Kin Corruptor Fire/Kin Controller Fire/Psi Dominator Perma Eclipse MF Warshade The squishies all softcapped typed or positional defense and a reasonable amount of resistance to the incoming damage. I mainly run the rad/fire or spines/fire though.
