  1. I like piercing rounds, as long as the mobs cooperate and line up nice and straight. =) A trick to it that I use is open up with hail of bullets then run back a few steps. The mob will follow and form a nice line for the set up. =) Oldskool has some good advice on slotting the piercing rounds to open up the cone a little, Annihilation, I think. I'll have to look it up.
  2. Not taking the maths stats in to consideration at all, the sound effects for sonic turn me off. It looked promising (DC's Cyborg has a sonic cannon), but when I tried it, I hear a constant sigh right before the power activation. Even when it's set to cast animation... priorities, I know. =)
  3. Someone from the reddit made a good point that if you ignore the specific numbers and just focus on the graph visualisations, it pretty much applies to all ATs.
  4. Wow! That's a lot to absorb. Oh, and sorry for steering the thread away from corruptors. I forget that it is in fact in the corruptors heading. I was just out hunting info on DP or WP anywhere I could find it. Got excited by the frankenslotting aspect of your posts. But, yeah. Some of the animations of the DP are a little too much. I almost skipped bullet rain and piercing shot because their animation didn't jive with my toon. But I needed the their functionality. I still cringe a little every time I use the power. I stuck to standard ammo after playing around with the swapping. Took too much eye-hand-brain work for me when the mobs were getting bigger. It was fun but I found that I preferred the knockback of dual wield, bullet rain and executioner over the admittedly more situationally-effective swap ammo. And my toon preferred it too (finishing things off with a kick from fighting power pool makes me chuckle every time). Thanks again.
  5. Thanks Oldskool. Just respec-ed my DP/WP Sentinel following as much of your and Hjarki's inputs. As much as I can afford at lvl 39. Tried it out and I got creamed! Then I realised I forgot to turn toggles on. After that, my guy was a beast! Thanks guys.
  6. I find it funny that the trains are filled with heroes in tights. I'd be happy with a Motorcycle or car option for my Vigilante... nothing as fancy as the batmobile or the green hornet's car. Just a plain Harley or croch rocket superbike (or a horse?), a handful of choices for cars, and maybe a bus for a supergroup. Then the devs would have to factor in a parking lot, and maybe charge inf for gas and vehicle maintenance like how sg bases require power and generators.
  7. Eavesdropping. =) Oldskool. I took your advice on Achilles Heel and I'm loving it. It fits well with the character concept of my DP Vigilante (WP, though, not Rad). I can't say I see the effect so much in practical use -- the orange damage numbers -- after it has supposedly lowered the def. But I'm keeping it. Thanks. I'm saving up to try out Annihilation now. =) Hjarki. I'm not a fan of Empty Clips myself. I skipped that after a respec. I do use Bullet rain just for crowd control. I have only 4 slots on it with Explosive Strike for knockback, just to throw mobs away when I'm getting overwhelmed as I usually solo. I'm a fan of Thunderstrike as well. Your reply opened up my eyes to frankenslotting instead of complete sets to make better use of the attacks as mules. Very valuable advice. Would you fellas know if Opportunity Strikes or Sentinel's Ward is worth getting and slotting into an attack?
  8. Came across this while running around the interwebs. Enjoy. =) https://www.reddit.com/r/Cityofheroes/comments/cc31ra/sentinel_shields/
  9. I've got a Dual Pistol/will power. Love the animation on the guns. =)
  10. No, not the reticle (brackets) on the creep/mob. When the opportunity bar fills up and you use t1 for offensive or t2 for defensive opportunity, then a red crosshair appears on the floor. I ran a map yesterday (office building with Freaks) and one or two offensive opportunity activation resulted in bright blue crosshairs. I didn't really notice any effect (buff/debuff) that was out of the ordinary since the guy was dead in the next two shots. But the colors were too bright for me not to notice. More info that might help: I just slotted a complete set of Thunderstrike on Suppressive Fire. That's the only thing different from before the blue thing happened. I have a complete set of Analyze Weakness on T1 and an incomplete Opportunity Strikes on T2. The rest are still just regular enhancements from the tech store.
  11. Also, when you create an Arachnos Soldier, you can only make minor changes in the costume like small details in the helm or collar and color combos. But once you enter the game, you can't edit your costume anymore. Once you click on an alternative costume slot, it will say that some options are not specs are not available. Plus your original character will have different ears. EARS for crying out loud. who even messes with ears??? Is this a bug?
  12. Good Lord! That was exactly what I was looking for. Just hit 35 and now have access to Epic/Ancillary Pools. None of them really appealed to my DP/WP Sentinel. I was curious about what the Patron Pools had to offer, since I was already a Vigilante and could take a dip to villainy for the sake of the pool powers. Thank you for the awesomely in-depth analysis. You're Jawesome!
  13. Has anyone had their Offensive/Defensive "crosshairs" turn blue? I just turned lvl 35 and it was blue on the Freakshow, but red on Devouring Earth. Can someone explain what's going on? is it a good thing, bad, or negligible?
  14. I've discovered that if you get all the prestige enhancements and slot them on your first primary (by lvl 5 you can put 5 slots into it), you basically get a sort of perma-haste (perma haten?) at entry level. Helps leveling up to 10 or 15 really quick. It was viable enough for me to hold off getting new primaries until lvl 10 or 12 when the mobs start getting a bit stronger. by then, there are enough regular enhancement drops to put into the 2nd and 3rd primaries. then at 15 or so, I just replace them with regular or even IOs if I have the salvage and recipe. Just a tip I thought might help. =)
  15. You don't have to do anything you don't want to. I'm playing on El Capitan on a mac mini beast right now primarily because it's very stable. Also because the apps I use for my work has bugs on Mojave and Sierra. I have another macbook that's on the latest just to see what the changes are. I don't think I'm missing a lot. Of course, there are some security issues that I've foregone because of not upgrading the OS, but I think it's a fair trade between keeping my paid apps (adobe CS suite) running vs a potential security threat that might never happen (knock on wood).
  16. So many friggin' awesome costumes! I love browsing this thread over and over. Is it just me, or do any of you feel really bad when doing tunnel/sewer missions. Deep inside, I can't shake the feeling that my costume will get dirty.
  17. Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I'm loving my newfound content/storylines. don't know which toon to focus on now. It's a whole new world! (come on, sing with me) =)
  18. Thanks guys. I'll study them when I grind later. =)
  19. Would anyone have any numbers on the duration of the effects? I can only guess Cryo's because of the cold aura effect. I ask because I'm trying a new tactic that hopes to maximise the swapping of ammo: Empty Clips/Hail/Rain with Cryo to slow them down Follow up with Pistols/Dual Wield with Chem weaken def Then pick them off one by one with Standard/Incendiary It works for the first few creeps that I pick off, but then I assume I have to repeat the Cryo and Chem after the first few kills. Just wanted an idea how long I have before I have to re-Cryo and re-Chem them. =)
  20. Is it just me or does swapping any ammo negate the knockback of standard ammo? I noticed that Dual Wield Executioner Shot knocks back more often on standard. Or maybe it's the enhancements I have? Side note. I tend to prefer standard ammo on most mobs primarily because of the knock back. If they're down, they can't attack me and it gives me some breathing room to wait for recharge. I tend to use cryo when creeps overwhelm me. I don't feel chem doing that much -def, since most creeps are dead in 2-4 shots with or without chem ammo.
  21. Has anyone tried the void board and have pics of it? I'm not too hot about the rocket board with the huge thrusters on the side. I was hoping for something more silver surfer. Plus, it would have been cooler if you could bank and roll on it, not just flat flying.
  22. I just discovered this myself, by accident. The Rogue Isles give you 2 more sub-choices: You can either go along with Emperor Cole which makes you a Loyalist, or against him which make you part of the Resistance. As a Loyalist, you have a sort of moral choice between using power to protect or to benefit yourself. I haven't gone that far into the storyline, so this is all I know. So now I have a four-way split between my favs: 1) A hero turned vigilante. Started out as a hero, but found too many "capes" and "tights" already have Paragon City handled. Has inner turmoil about doing good and getting things done. 2) A Rogue who's part of the Resistance. A guy who does bad to do good, very Ends justify the means. 3) A Loyalist who's a proclaimed protector of peace, and is willing to keep it at any price. He doesn't see himself as evil. On the contrary, he is probably the only force of good in an evil society. 4) A villain (Mercy Isles -- just starting out). He's a serial killer. But he believes he does what he does to punish his "victims." Sorry for digressing. Just when I thought CoH/CoV couldn't get any better, I just multiplied the fun X 4. (and don't get me started on the alts). So far, I'm enjoying the stories in the Rogue lsles more. =)
  23. Isn't it cool how the role-playing goes beyond the game. If you think about it, you have your toon (you probably have a tonne of alts, but I'm sure you have a favourite one). Now you're toon exists in the game and sooner or later you have to log out and get back to "reality" where work and responsibilities and normal civic life reside. But after work, most likely at night, you play maybe a few hours at a time as your hero. Aren't you like Bruce Wayne during the day, trying to fit in, work, bring home the bacon. But at night, you go off and patrol the city for crime or go off to missions or supergroups. Then before the night ends, you go back home (log out) so you can get ready for the coming day of normal work and responsibilities. =)
  24. I hear ya. Sentinels are my favourite AT. I've been reading about how they're underpowered being a cross between a tank and blaster/scrapper/brute. But I personally like how well rounded they are--and honestly how underpowered they are. I'm not the kind of guy that goes for the strongest build. Quite the opposite. I really enjoy the handicap. I suppose it goes with the story or immersive part of being a hero. I tried playing around with other ATs, and found it a little too hard to suspend my disbelief. Yes, they have powers, some godlike powers, but I feel they're powers define them more than the person they are (Ironman man vs suit). Some of the toons I tried were fun (or funny), but they felt like they were trying too hard to be a hero for the sake of the cape. Sentinels feel real to me and much more believable. (I suppose this is incredibly subjective to my personal game play style, though). It reminds of the Saitama's conversation with King. Being a hero isn't about being the strongest or getting satisfaction out of fighting, it's about one's unwavering ideals of justice, fighting to save others, and most of all having the courage to do what must be done (even when you're out of your league). ATM, I'm having a blast switching between two toons: a DP/WP (who's basically a guy with a gun trying to play vigilante in a world of super-powered folks) and a Archer/Bio (a mutation with hard skin and a bow and arrow -- reminds of Hawkeye in Age of Ultron). They're both too weak to take on mobs at any given time, and they both don't have enough damage to single shot an enemy, let alone a boss. Both of them are pretty much outclassed everywhere they turn, but that's the part I like. You're a hero, you find ways around your weakness or inadequacies to save the day.
  25. Not a man of numbers much, so I don't really pay attention to stats as long as I can kill and I don't die. I've been trying out staff brute and the animation is awesome! There's a power (3rd primary, I think) that you spin the staff in front of you to give multiple minor damage + def against lethal and range (or something). If you time it right, you're spinning the staff in front of you while the other guy is emptying his clips and it looks fantastic.
