What are your favorite City of Heroes "Dad jokes"?
OmegaX123 replied to Robotech_Master's topic in General Discussion
Those are the definition of the quintessential 'Dad Joke'.Basically bad puns, with the occasional "Hi, Hungry, I'm Dad" thrown in. -
Maybe reroll/rename and have a think about that name - it's not a bad name, just you don't want to get Generic'd if/when Homecoming LLC decide to start really enforcing character copyright rules, since Mr. Terrific is already a DC Comics hero. Aside from that, if Girl Gadgeteer (my only tech character iirc, and the one who would be most likely to take on a sidekick instead of a 'friend', 'minion', or 'slave') was higher leveled and it made sense for her to be a mentor, I'd take your character under my wing.

Post your best COPY costume designs here!
OmegaX123 replied to ChanelNo2's topic in General Discussion
Your "Nocturne" is Nightcrawler. Nocturne is his daughter Talia/T.J., from Exiles, and doesn't really have a costume so she'd just be a fuzzy blue elf-lady in civilian clothes with long darker-blue hair (sometimes with a streak of white/blonde in the bangs). Other than that, all very cool, nearly dead on. I haven't tried to clone an existing character yet (closest I came is that Chrono-Master is basically "what if The Doctor (Doctor Who) fused with the TARDIS, and also was finally ginger"), so no screenshots from me, but lots of "well done" and "good job" and "that's awesome". -
While I probably wouldn't use it (and most actual comics bug-themed characters tend to just be humans with bug powers, even when Spider-Man turned into a Man-Spider monster he was still human-shaped, he just had extra arms and a spider head and fur), /sign for the people who would, and because it could result in some interesting and unique costumes.

The problem (not necessarily for you, from the sounds of it, but for a lot of people) with 'feeling more invested in the future of the game', is if NCSoft decides "Wait, that's illegal" and sends Homecoming LLC a C&D, then your inestment is kaput, and a lot of people (when it's not a literal investment and you're 'just' getting a game and a sense of satisfaction out of it rather than any financial return, as in this case) think that an investment in a product is akin to 'paying for something', and therefore think that if that 'something' has a Critical Existence Failure then they're being 'cheated' and 'paid for this and now can't use it'. This would, as you can imagine, result in a lot of backlash for Homecoming LLC if they ever wanted to get involved in making their own product such as a CoH spiritual successor like City of Titans/Phoenix Project sort of thing, just look at what happened to the Yogscast's rep as game publishers when Winterkewl Games went under and Yogventures failed to materialize because of it.

I just liked, and it says there have been 100k+ accounts created, but there are only 90k+ accounts. 700+ people either got banned or deleted their account, I guess? EDIT: Looked, not liked. Typed it on my phone, must have typed liiked instead and got autocorrected.

One thing that would be nice wrt that idea, if they can't make doors that open up and allow you to walk through manually, would be something like this: Say you have a "functional door" object. You place it on a wall, then another one on the other side of that wall. You know how teleport signs 'detect' teleporters and link to them, and vice versa? Now apply that to the 'functional doors', but make them only able to support one link (the first other door placed within its radius before/after it, so if there's a door there already when you place it, that doesn't already have a partner, then those two doors link up and lead into one another). Make its radius maybe one or two 'large grid' tiles (aka the size of the pillar/block that appears if you click 'add' on the wall box when editing a room), so that it doesn't go crazy checking the whole map for another door. And give the door an animation like the functional doors in the city zones, i.e.: door swings open, player runs through, door swings closed, other door swings open, player emerges, other door swings closed. I'm neither a modeler nor a coder, so I don't know how hard that would be, hence I'm not saying 'they should/need to do it this way', I'm just saying it would be cool.

Lore Based Role Playing: What is it and why do it
OmegaX123 replied to Llewellyn Blackwell's topic in Roleplaying
One point though, "Ol' Berk" doesn't mean "old fool", it's much more rude, vulgar and mean-spirited than that. It comes from Cockney rhyming slang, and the full term is "Berkshire/Berkeley Hunt", which rhymes with a particularly unsavory C word. -
I like OP's concept, and it actually seems like it meshes well (in a 'hey, it doesn't conflict, so why not?' sense) with Ms Reborn's story (M2 remembers the 'Crisis', but not really any specifics, and no recollection whatsoever of what happened to him at the end of it or in the time since, so it could easily be that no time actually passed for him, he was pulled into a rift of some sort - by Ouroboros Menders trying to save a potential lynchpin in a 'stable' future maybe? - and into this 'new' Paragon City with his memories partially wiped/scrambled).

Unless you slot Sprint and fill it with run speed enhancers. The alternative is the Naruto run, which would still have the 'powers coming out at odd angles' issue, since those are the two run styles associated with 'Ninja' in the public consciousness.
-
I think the Monstrous parts are more intended to be thought of as "were/wif"-beasts, rather than like Yeti or Samsquanch or Thundercats or whatever, and were/wif-beasts in a lot of depictions aren't 100% fur-covered.
-
Huh. Weird that it allows it in pet names (Girl Gadgeteer has bots named S.A.M., T.O.M., K.I.M., and H.A.L.) but not for actual characters.
-
So I assume you're thinking Eastern mysticism, with a name like that? Water, Fire, Air (Storm), Wood (Plant), Metal (weapons of some sort maybe, or some kind of electric or magnetic powerset? Or just an armored character?) I expect? Or is it just a 'here's the name and we'll work on the concept' thing? I might be in, if a few others express interest and either that's the concept or we can figure out something that works. EDIT: If this is a RP group, it might fly better on Everlasting, though, since there is some RPer population on Excelsior but Everlasting is the 'officially unofficial' RP server so probably more of a RP pop and less of a non-RPer pop.

I fully intended to come, but the beta shard opened and I completely forgot it was today... I even made special 2099 (and 1602 or 1872-esque for the second one) costumes for Girl Gadgeteer and M2 Reborn, too... Hope you (or someone with the Inf and/or other prized to back it up) hold another one soon.

It works perfectly fine for (warning: TVTropes link) Scary Shiny Glasses type of anime villains (or heroes/neutrals mistaken for villains because of the connotations), though.

Agreed re: AE from SG base. Also, while we're on the topic of adding features to SG base builder, since the other NPCs are mostly all available (functional and decorative alike), including Vanguard Quartermaster, trainer, difficulty adjuster, and both hero and villain tailor, could we possibly get the cosmetic surgeon added? I don't even care if he still charges us Inf or a costume token (though I'd prefer he didn't, but I'm pretty sure the ones at the Icon shops still do, so I'd be cool with it), I just want to not have to trek to and across Steel Canyon or another zone with one available, just to change something not costume-related about one of my costume slots.

My reply on a Reddit thread where someone was posting about VidiotMaps

For the record, 'cis' isn't an acronym, any more than 'trans' is. It's literally the opposite of trans in Latin. 'Trans' means 'across, on the other side from, opposite of', and 'cis' means 'the same, this side of'.

That's not possible, apparently. Tequila (or Island Rum for Mac users, Cream Soda for people who started on one of the other servers i.e.: Reborn, Rebirth, etc and migrated, or Sunrise for people from the future) is the frontend that tells it what server to connect to, you literally have to use Tequila/whatever as if it was a launcher.

Hey, saw your base on Reddit, awesome work. I'm the guy (if the username didn't give it away) who half-joked about hiring you to set up a base for me. I'm not applying (yet, unless I spontaneously decide to roll up a supercop of some sort, which has never been my style but a change could be fun), just wanted to restate that the base looks awesome (still haven't had the chance to go for a tour yet though, so still just have the screenshot to go by), and the half-joke about contracting you :P
-
From what I've seen, free base builder/upkeep is a feature, not a temp or a bug. I may be wrong, as I'm neither Homecoming staff nor one of the code monkeys on Leandro's team, but that's how I understood it.
-
Any chance of a setting for the base's walls similar to the Open Sky setting for ceilings? It'd help people who can't figure out how to build out of the upper/lower bounds make an outdoor base without having to hire/contract/sginvite/favor-for-favor/whatever someone who does know, at the very least.

Not LGBTQA+ myself, but I have a fair few friends who are, so full love and support for our LGBTQA+ members here. Enjoy the game, and if you run into any of my characters (so far that'd be M2 Reborn, Girl Gadgeteer, Kiba no Doku, Silver Sorceress, Chrono-Master - a character inspired by a famously LGBTQA+-friendly British series, particularly in the last few seasons - or Infernal Shadelord, probably more to come) on Everlasting, don't be afraid to ask for a team (if you either are fairly low level or don't mind carrying, lol), or have a little RP session, or what-have-you, just be aware that if you want to RP with them/me I'm a bit out of practice, haven't RPed since sunset on Live servers.

Yes, because someone is going to go through that trouble to get to a CoH account. And then after they got it .... what would they do with it? If you have a personal enemy willing to go to such lengths to get at a gae you enjoy, you have a far more serious problem then whatever they could do to your characters. It's not about the CoX account, it's about the password itself. A lot of people, especially people old enough to have enjoyed CoX when it was NCSoft's/Cryptic's baby (even before Cryptic broke off and NCNorCal which later became Paragon Studios took over) or older, aren't savvy enough to use separate passwords for everything, especially if they were adults already back then. People like that, that CoX password could also be their Gmail password, their Paypal password, their Patreon password if they're a content creator, their YouTube/Twitch password also if they're a content creator, etc.

Yep. Even in the base builder. There's flatscreen resources separate from the desks, but all the desks that have computers already attached are still CRT. It messes with the flow and vibe of Takamoto Industries' head office, when a tech firm that should be light years ahead of the rest of the world is still using CRT monitors.
