Do you play Heroes, villains, or Praetorians?
huang3721 replied to UltraAlt's topic in General Discussion
Survey questions must capture all possible responses and each question must not overlap. This way, the answers are valid and measurable. Otherwise, the data is useless since we can not make any inference from it. -
I didn't, but suddenly I remember this: In all seriousness, try to write a bio, even if it's only one sentence long. If you think that your bio sucks after reading it a few weeks later, you can always revise it or make a new one. Write something.

It is "Integer Linear Programming". Let's say we want to slot some enhancement sets to get bonus stats. We also want to meet some criteria (eg Recharge > 200% and all defenses > 40%). In addition, enhancement sets cost money and take space, so we want to slot only a few of them while still satisfying our criteria above. ILP solves that kind of problem. For me, it helps transforms my plan into an actual build. The drawback is that the build relies on bonus sets, so attuned enhancement is a must. I didn't read GM Crumpet's post once and my toon got a painful surprise!

A few weeks ago, I ran @Darmian AE Story (#40403) using build #3. It didn't go quite well since I lost half of my set bonuses. So, I'm going to build another one for Lv.10-Lv30 missions. As usual, I will use Rare and Uncommon only. According to the powerset (Beam/Temporal/Force Mastery), I can use these enhancement types: Accurate Defense Debuff Healing PBAoE Damage Stuns Accurate To Hit Debuff Holds Ranged Damage Targeted AoE Damage Defense Immobilize Resist Damage To Hit Buff Defense Debuff Knockback Slow Movement To Hit Debuff Fear Melee Sniper Attacks I also decided to increase Accuracy, Recharge Time, Recovery, and S/L Resistance. Accuracy & Recharge to deal more damage and Recovery to keep it firing as long as possible. For short, this build is the low-level version of Build #3. Based on the data, I narrowed down my selection list. Now, I can assign 38 enhancement sets into 20 available powers. After a few iterations, this is what I got: Assign To Slot Accuracy Recharge Recovery Resist S/L Tempest Single Shot 3 1.5 Tempest Charged Shot 3 1.5 Shield Breaker Cutting Beam 5 11 2.5 2.25 nothing Disintegrate 0 Encouraged Accuracy Aim 2 5 Razzle Dazzle Lance 2 2 nothing Penetratring Ray 0 Shield Breaker Overcharge 5 11 2.5 2.25 Curtail Speed Time Wall 5 2.5 1.5 Bruising Blow Aging Touch 2 1 Basilisk Gaze Time Stop 4 7.5 2 Paralyze Time Stop 2 1 Encouraged Accuracy Chronos 2 5 Regenerative Tissue Temporal Healing 5 5 Unspeakable Terror Future Pain 5 5 2 Cloud Sense Time Shift 4 6.25 Deflated Ego Time Shift 2 3 Impervious Skin TimeLord 5 5 2 1.5 Kismet Personal Force 5 3.75 1.5 2.25 Stagger Repulsion Bomb 5 2.5 Impervious Skin Temporal Inv 5 5 2 1.5 Steadfast Protection Force Of Nature 2 1.5 Imprevium Armor Force Of Nature 2 2.5 Energy Manipulator Force Of Nature 2 1.5 SUM 77 35 42.5 24 14.25 It turns out low-level enhancement sets don't provide decent S/L Resistance to Temporal Powerset. Even after I set other values (Accuracy, Recharge, and Recovery) to zero, I can only get 18.75% S/L Resistance! I tried again, but this time I replaced S/L Resistance with Psi/Toxic Resistance. Assign To Slot Accuracy Recharge Recovery Psi/Toxic Far Strike Single Shot 2 1.5 Far Strike Charged Shot 2 1.5 Shield Breaker Cutting Beam 5 11 2.5 Far Strike Disintegrate 2 1.5 Encouraged Accuracy Aim 2 5 Stagger Lance 5 2.5 Far Strike Penetrating Ray 2 1.5 Shield Breaker Overcharge 5 11 2.5 Debilitative Action Time Wall 6 4.5 Bruising Blow Aging Touch 2 1 Pulverizing Fisticuffs Aging Touch 2 1.5 Basilisk Gaze Time Stop 4 7.5 2 Paralyze Time Stop 2 1 Encouraged Accuracy Chronos 2 5 Regenerative Tissue Temporal Healing 5 5 Unspeakable Terror Future Pain 6 5 2 4.5 Cloud Sense Time Shift 4 6.25 Razzle Dazzle Time Shift 2 2 Imprevium Armor TimeLord 6 2.5 4.5 Kismet Personal Force 5 3.75 1.5 Razzle Dazzle Repulsion Bomb 2 2 Impervious Skin Temporal Inv 5 5 2 Imprevium Armor Force Of Nature 6 2.5 4.5 SUM 84 32 35 23.5 25.5 It has a 25.5% bonus compared to a mere 14.25%. The Psi/Toxic build also seems more balanced than S/L, which is nice. I hope this is enough to fend off those pesky Seers and the Awakened. Edit: Nope. Psi damage type is uncommon. So, this build is not too useful. Also, 95% hit rate and slightly reduced recharge can't mitigate Resistance's defense debuff, blastmaster's Molotov, Ghouls horde or Sherperd's blade. Unless the team has tanks or controllers, expect kiting and running while using this build. Glad I tested this build on the beta server. Oh, well. Time to pick other stats.

Deathless run is really hard imo. The participant has to fight thousands of mobs and always win. Imagine that. Their win probability have to be near 100%. Otherwise, even if they re doing everything right, they'll eventually get defeated before reaching their goal. Edit Godspeed, you madlad!

I have a hunch why 90% of characters you met have no bio. In my experience, writing is not easy. Once I wrote a few sentences, but they don't properly tell a story about my toon. So, I wrote more and ended up with an incoherent bio. Writing also takes time. I need a few days to make the backstory look right. I'd rather spend my time doing some missions. For example, I need days to make her backstory, and I don't feel that I've got it right. I am not sure about the badge. People may write a word salad or copy-paste someone else's to get the badge. A contest may encourage people to write, but there is a caveat. If the reward is too few or the bar is too high, it may discourage people from investing their time writing a backstory. Still, it's a good idea, and I hope you can find a way to do it.

Native Praetorian Doing All Gold Side Content
huang3721 replied to Apparition's topic in General Discussion
The ambushes in Praetoria is a bit different. The next wave will spawn after a period of time and said period is very short. In addition, each ambush has many waves (more than three, probably nine). God Emperor Cole help you if you haven't clear the previous wave but the next wave has already arrived. Imo Power Arc missions in Imperial city are the worst offender.- 36 replies

Things one misses from the original game
huang3721 replied to Techwright's topic in General Discussion
My experience is similar to Temporal. Whatever I did in the live server years ago, I have done them again here in Homecoming. If anything, I am getting more since there is no paywall in HC. I am not missing anything at all. -
The clockworks! How could I forget Praetoria's main workforce!
-
I am afraid we would never know unless some of those devs from Praetoria survived and leaked their source code. Also, they would need to rebuild the game so that it could run on Windows XP. Also, derailing this forum a bit, imagine the guys maintaining said game in Primal Earth. What do they look like? A group of grizzled war veterans (obviously)? Corporate hackers? Could a bunch of ghouls run and maintain a pirate server?

I decided to use whatever asset that is currently available, rather than build all her costume parts from a scratch. Let's say she had to fight crime in civvies. Pic Alteration Ninja mask -> Surgical mask. sleeveless vest -> sleeveless crop top armband -> wristband and no gloves Her pants remain, but no white stripes. She is wearing a belt now. ^Civvies + threatening pose

It's just for fun project. Also I'd love to create new character rather than replaying the same powerset. Back then I randomly picked her power. She was mind/ice dom, if I am not mistaken.
-
I use imgur. It's a little bit complicated, but saves my quota in the long run.
-
After months of procrastination, I finally sit down and recreate one of my toons from live server. Meet my mind control dominator, Mei: Obivously, her original costume parts are not available on Makehuman, so I created a makeshift costume by painting her torso. She is technically naked, but I'll fix her soon*™️ (please don't ban me). You can download her current costume at Makehuman's repository. Model turnaround, rendered by Microsoft's 3D Viewer About Makehuman: Pros: Open source Quite small and runs on a potato PC (subjectively important for me) Support multiple formats, Cons: Limited available assets even for civilian/everyday clothes (men's clothing is even rarer). Many assets have poor quality. (You need to rework said asset). But said formats are ancient (eg. Collada and Lightwave) *Probably next year or a few years after that.

What's the best blaster for soloing past lv50 in your opinion?
huang3721 replied to JORGE MARRTIN's topic in Blaster
The question was simple, but it wasn't silly. The OP wanted to know the best blaster to solo level 50+ contents. Since OP didn't elaborate on what he considered as the best, I gave him general advice. After all, any blaster can do those contents. Also, if this thread is any indication, everyone picks different powers while claiming their pick as the best build. Therefore, every selection can be the best build as long as the player knows how to play it right. Don't hate my answer for stating the truth. People tend to overlook simple things. -
I think this is a nice feature. My staff fighting scrapper can simply move a bit to abort resting. Usually I press Z to powexec_abort. Thanks.

What's the best blaster for soloing past lv50 in your opinion?
huang3721 replied to JORGE MARRTIN's topic in Blaster
The best blaster for soloing level 50+ is the one you have used on missions and arcs since level 1. -
No, the limitation only applies to the boss battle, not the whole mission arc. It can be tied to the boss' power, an area inside a map or the whole map. I love this idea because this makes the boss battle more difficult by setting everyone's stat to their base level. This way, the dev (I guess) can design said difficult boss battle better and easier, since the limitation minimize stats variation. In my opinion this is a win win scenario for all of us.
-
Sin harvest? Nice! Another idea: we could turn a boss fight into a time attack mode. All team members lost a level every 2 minutes or so. The game will restore their level after they defeat the boss or fail the mission. (Or should it? Mua ha ha ha ha!) I love this idea. Make it a power that kills any enhancement. This will give everyone a chance to succeed (or fail) regardless of their build slotting. This way, we have to rely on our primary, secondary powers and teammates. Everyone can challenge said boss, as long as they have enough primary or secondary powers options. No need to design a custom boss! Simply remove those enhancements (TO,DO,SO,IO, whatever), bonuses, power-ups, and done!

Problem searching toons with Praetorian origin
huang3721 replied to huang3721's topic in General Discussion
^No, it is not. Praetorians, who have passed the enclosure, behave like blue or red siders. Thanks to @Darmian for helping me verify it. For short: gold can't search blue or red unless they are in First Ward, Night Ward, or Pocket D. However, just because they can't search each other don't mean they can't join a team. For example, Dark Astoria, Kallisti Wharf, and all praetorian zones allow them to join or invite a member. In the example above, Luigi can invite the gold sider into his team. I assume this applies to Rikti War Zone too. Sadly, since gold siders can't go to DA, KW, or RWZ, teaming up with toons in those zones makes no sense. --- Additional Note: I guess (aside from the three zones above) blue and red can search and team up in Midnight Club, Crimerora, Dark Astoria, Kallisti Wharf, and RWZ. That off-limit rule to the gold siders makes searching and teaming up a little bit weird. --- -
Praetorian can not search Hero/Villain unless both characters are in Co-op Zone(First Ward, Night Ward, or Pocket D). The opposite is also true (Blue/Red can't search Gold outside Co-op Zone). Example: Luigi is a blue sider, the lady is a gold sider I multi-boxed a gold and a blue sider, and I noticed something weird. A hero with a Praetorian origin is invisible to my blue sider but visible to my gold sider. All three were outside Co-op Zone. Sadly, I didn't have a screenshot. Could anyone verify this? Did I goof up? Is the limitation still applies after a gold sider switch to red side/blue side via rift enclosure?
