While a shield friendly gun set is an admirable goal, I think what people want is something along the lines of Equilibrium.

I've got a monster mutation... The Shuffler Stone Armor / Titan Weapons Tanker

Did someone say nerf regen?

I have a water blast / mental manipulation blaster called Bourbon Blaster. The liquid (and mental) effects are colored a nice shade brown-amber, and he is fun at parties.

Green Light is a go. You may proceed. 😉

Instead of Peter, Ray, Winston, and Egon... we'd need similar but different names like Pietro, Roy... and others.

Maybe we should just give them regular names and create an SG of Spookslayers. Would be hella fun to show up in unison next Halloween to fight Eochai. 😄

Thinking back to the names in the original post, Rad Sword may have been clever to the person who came up with it, as in maybe it's funny because rad can have a double meaning being short for radioactive and radical. And maybe anyone that looks at it and doesn't see that connection just doesn't share the same kind of vision as the character's player. On the other hand, maybe it is exactly what it appears to be with an obvious choice of named after powersets. In the end, does it really matter? The iconic hero names are only familiar to us as names because they have had decades to build a reputation and grow into that iconic status.

Yeah, I don't like that compromise. I think the appropriate way to handle it is for character names to be tied to the global chat handles. They aren't hidden, they just aren't immediately obvious. A little checking and character named Frost that you see wouldn't be an issue because you could find the one you're familiar with by rating them and / or having them on your friends list.

And, as I pointed out, this phenomenon also occurs within the comics world.

I'm sure every John Smith in the real world agrees with you. But that's not how life works.

Super Strength changes & proliferation to Scrappers and Stalkers

It's my argument, and I'll make it how I want to. Plenty of others have already criticized the mechanics, so I'm contributing an additional thought to consider. -

You seem to be focused on the name. I think the power is garbage and I'm just pointing out that not only is it crap but that it isn't thematically appropriate. You could call it "2-Minute Strength Boost" and I'll still say it needs to be replaced and the powerset rebalanced around Build Up. -

Exactly. And neither should Super Strength, no matter what you call the power that causes it. It's a penalty that hurts super strength for the sake of being thematically appropriate to a very specific super strength icon: the Hulk. The power set should be changed to be non-Hulk-like. -

So do all non-super strength characters, but no other damage powerset is hit the way Super Strength is. -

Emma, Colossus, Iron Man... these are people who do not have super strength until they activate their power up. They're have normal strength until they transform into organic diamond or steel or strap into their powersuit or whatever. That isn't what the Super Strength power set with Rage does, though. Super Strength is always strong. Once they activate their power, then they're super strong... not raging or boosted to even more super strength. -

And Rage causes a crash which hits hard with a sudden lack of damage and other penalties... NONE of which all those super strength characters are afflicted with because they are super strong all the time, not building up with power to maintain that strength. -

None of what you say is good. Look at all of the super strength characters I pointed out... which of them are just sort of super strong and then get stronger for short durations as their bodies get supercharged with power? Maybe a few have at times under very limited specific circumstances. Wonder Woman was retconned into a "rage" state, but that was a recent development. Your argument to justify rage is weak and ineffective. Rage is a very specific effect that suits a narrow group of characters. Your attempt to stretch it into something else just doesn't work, and the fact that people continue to complain about the rage crash says that there are people who aren't happy with the power anyway. So what if my idea takes rage away from everyone. It's a bad power and you should feel bad for trying to defend it. -

No, that isn't what I'm claiming. I'm stating that Rage is not thematically appropriate for Super Strength. Don't spin what I'm saying to make it sound like something else. Maybe what we need is two powersets. A straight up Super Strength set with modified numbers to reflect using Build Up instead of having a 2 minute boost with Rage, and then a Rage Strength set for those who want raging heroes or villains. BUT... as a power set... Captain Marvel: Super strength, doesn't rage Colossus: Super strength, doesn't rage Emma Frost (diamond form): Super strength, doesn't rage Iron Man: Super strength, doesn't rage Luke Cage: Super strength, doesn't rage Martian Manhunter: Super strength, doesn't rage Molly Hayes: Super strength, doesn't rage Rogue: Super strength, doesn't rage Shazam: Super strength, doesn't rage Silver Surfer: Super strength, doesn't rage Spider-Man: Super strength, doesn't rage Supergirl: Super strength, doesn't rage Superman: Super strength, doesn't rage The Thing: Super strength, doesn't rage Wonder Man: Super strength, doesn't rage Wonder Woman: Super strength, doesn't rage ...and so many more. The problem is if one chooses to forego the Rage power because it's not appropriate to their character, they would be gimping their damage. Rage is necessary for the powerset to be useful, meaning that the power does not belong there. It belongs in a set that is thematically appropriate to. -
Names get tied to global chat handles. So when you see a "spiderman" saying they want to join the TF, you right click on that spiderman's name and select invite to team. You can also use the add note feature to keep track of which player is which with common names. So if there were suddenly a hundred characters named Grindhouse like my staff fighter and you know you like teaming with me, you add (or edit) note and you have the option of giving that person a rating of 1 to 5 stars. When you see that player again, the star rating you gave them is there regardless of what character they're playing, and you can see in the notes every character name they've used when you edited your note of that player (auto updates), as well as anything you specifically add in your note. So players griefing in the way you describe could easily be kept track of. If you see someone behaving this way, 1-star them with a note and whenever you see that player you'll know what they did.

His beam rifle model is the Shard Cannon with both colors set to all black. The 3 red lasers still show as red, and his beams are a mix of blue and COH ghost yellow-green. It's a nice display.

Unique names is a crap system. Names are not unique in the real world, and hell they aren't even unique in comic books among superheroes. There've been as many as 4 Spider-Men running around simultaneously... 2 Supermans (and other Justice League members) also... and over time, names have been passed around. Captain Marvel has been used by like 8 or 9 different characters... two at the same time in different comic universes. We need non-unique naming with names tied to players' global chat handles, and then we can stop seeing all the xX(name)Xx, oO(name)Oo, as well as numbers as letters and a dash or period before or after a name... except where people REALLY want that as their name.

I've only had one character get bumped from a name I was using when switching between servers and liked my rename better than the original. I had Poledancer for my staff fighting scrapper and moved over to Torch where it was taken. Picked up the name Grindhouse instead, and I'm very pleased with the change. Everything else is rubbish and I hate when something like that happens or when I can't create a new character because someone else is using the name already. Other name changes that I've made and people tell me they like and I absolutely can't stand: Flood -> renamed as Aquaduct Hotness -> renamed as Hot One Violence -> renamed as Violenza Spine -> renamed as Backbone Good Girl -> renamed as Virtue Girl Origin -> renamed as Demigoddess First -> renamed as Fear Incarnate Dervish -> renamed as Dancing Girl Bricks -> renamed as Brix Sunder -> renamed as Flawless Axe Omnipotent -> renamed as All-Powerful Hate them all and the enjoyment of playing them has come to a halt.

People will... but I won't. I will just be bitter and move on to another twenty ideas... just to get the names before anyone else does. If I can't have the name I wanted, then I want to make sure I keep some names from other people. That's right, I'm a vindictive namer.
