New love for stalkers!

Glubba

Recommended Posts

So, as the title says, I have a newfound love for stalkers. I don't remember liking them on live, though I've been told there have been quite a few changes. I recently followed a build from the forums and leveled an elec/sd stalker to 50, almost fully IOd and up to T3 on each incarnate.

AND I LOVE IT! The lightning rod shield charge combo is such a blast. The soft capped positionals and and max S/L resist make life so easy as I can easily tank +4/8 solo missions and in groups I just jump ahead, slam down my aoes, crit the boss mob and cycle through my rotation as the group catches up. I have even done a little S/L farming, albeit that's quite a bit slower than my fire/spines brute lol, but doing it with a group is super nice too. I love the “controllable” crits and of course, hide, for me, greatly improves the quality of life as I can skip whatever I want.

So, I'm going to make another one. I know that I want Psi primary, however, I am undecided on secondary. I really love SD for the positionals and Shield Charge. That lightning rod shield charge combo is hard to beat. However, I think I want to try something different. I know that ninja is a popular secondary (also easily cap-able positional defenses), so I was considering that, or perhaps DA.

So I came here. Does anyone have suggestions for a secondary? Or perhaps could point out things that I, an inexperienced player, might like to know about other secondaries that could possibly peak my interest?

Thank you all!!

Psi is a very nice Primary. Your Single Target Attack chain would be:

Greater Psi Blade -> Assasin's Psi Blade -> Psi Blade -> Telekinetic Blow

To get this chain going you would need recharge close to perma hasten.

To get this easier secondarys like Super Reflexes, Elec or Energy Aura would be sufficient for the bonus 20% recharge they bring.

Other secondaries however are also valid if you build for it.

Hyperstrike has mentioned Invul. That is also a very tanky option on Stalkers.

A SG mate of me has soloed quite a few Taskforces (ML, Posi 1+2, Manti or Cita, the one with crey boss) with this combo (Psi/Invul) here is the build he used:

I hope you find some usefull hints on how to make a Psi. These examples are what i would suggest. I hope you have fun with it!

Thanks for the suggestions! I am looking at them as we speak.

I do have a question. I notice in the psi/invuln build, GPB is slotted with 4 procs. Now, I'm new to endgame, and way new to mids and all these builds, but I know procs aren't affected by crits, and I know the "controlled crits" are a big part of the stalker playstyle. Is it efficient to slot procs in stalker abilities??  I ask because I have no idea lol.

And thanks @Croax for all of your forum stuff. I've read a lot of it here and it's really shaping how I view and play the stalker.

Thank you @Glubba for these kind words!

Proccs can be a good source of bonus damage. In the build i just did it for fun. you can also go with 5 Hecatomb +1 unbr constr. proc. leaving out the heca damage IO. It should be roughly the same damage. There are some powers that benefit very well from procs like DNA Siphon, burn, consume and so on. they turn some utilitty powers into Area Damage that can keep themself up to a Shield Charge. But be aware that you do not rely on procs like a Defender for example.

(the post as edited may be a little weird... trying to fix the spoiler boxes)

I have a /Bio stalker...

My slotting for DNA siphon is somewhat similar, but I felt that inherent Damage boosts (from a damage set) were doing less than trying to boost the Healing/Absorb effects. This also let me get more global Accuracy (at the expense of E/N defense (typed Defenses are better on my build than Ranged/AoE positional Defenses)

I also took the power somewhat late in this build; I think my build might be a little better served if I had swapped it with my pick at lvl 32, but I haven't really noticed when playing at lower levels.

Level 38: DNA Siphon

[*] (A) Touch of the Nictus - Healing: Level 50
[*] (46) Touch of the Nictus - Accuracy/Healing: Level 30

[*] (48) Scirocco's Dervish - Chance of Damage(Lethal): Level 50
[*] (50) Touch of the Nictus - Chance for Negative Energy Damage: Level 50

I completely agree with the 6-slotting of Concentration: The defense bonuses are far too useful from the Gaussian's set.

EDIT: I didn't see a Kismet +ToHit in the build. If a build includes a Snipe, I usually try to squeeze this Global in to increase the damage of the Snipe. I have found that a 95% 'final chance to hit' Snipe is a wonderful 'Plan B' if the Assassin's Strike attack misses, the extra ToHit is gravy.

I never had more than the default slot in Health (Panacea proc).  With Stamina (Performance Shifter proc) I did have a second slot for and EndMod, but I just moved it to Boundless Energy (as a lvl 50+5 IO). I could be wrong about the final numbers, but with Adaptation as an option on top of the other Bio powers, I don't think the little bit of extra +Regeneration from Healing Globals (or +HP from Power Transfer) is really doing that much. My build does end up using more slots; I chose to get set bonuses from:

Yeah, that electric/shield combo got my back into stalkers. Lightning Rod and Shield Charge is indeed a glorious combo. Otherwise, mine tend to have either Ninjitsu, Energy Aura, or Bio Armor lately. Ninjitsu I like simply because 3 or 4 of the powers are easily skippable so I can pick up more goodies out of the ancillary pools. I leveled to 50 quicker with a Bio Stalker than I have any other character so far.

I've been working on a Dark Armor stalker. Not sure if I would play it on another one yet because I haven't gotten a feel for it but it is definitely endurance heavy big time. Also just started a StJ/Invuln toon I am looking forward to after reading some peoples' thoughts on the sets.

Thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions. I think I’m going to make a psionic/invuln stalker.

that being said however, I have a couple builds I want to try. I’ve been seeing a lot on the forums about DB/EA, and the. I also want to try EITHER StJ/bio or SM/bio. Does anyone have any opinions on these?

I know I might be biting off more than I can chew, but I have a really hard time sticking with one character for a great length of time and I like to rotate through alts. So these three or four should be able to hold my interest for a while haha.

I posted most of my thoughts on /Bio above. The one comment I make about the enjoyable Street Justice set is based on my Scrapper: I don't worry about the 'combo' effect of Street Justice attacks. I suppose it's nice to have secondary effects on the 'finishers', but when I started playing the character I found myself distracted by trying to maximize the utility of the finishers. I eventually stopped caring about them and focus more on pure damage; the control that comes from my attacks is more from my slotting choices than the combos.

Yeah, I kind of feel the same way. I also love the animations for StJ. They just feel so quick and efficient.

So now I’ve been reading this Ice/bio thread and there are just so many choices!!

I want to play them all!

I would definitely recommend ice/bio over the other two. Bio is not as sturdy as some of the other sets, but ice makes up for it with ice patch and stacking sleeps. Stj has some knockdowns but savage has no mitigation to add to bio whatsoever.

Question about GPB. From the two of the builds here I see one with 2 HOs and 4 procs, and one with 5 piece Heca and the extra proc from unbreakable. Is there a noticeable difference in the damage between these two different builds? Or is it more of a user's preference sort of thing? Or perhaps a major price difference?

Well, I am partial to DA and on a stalker it's actually fun to lvl up because it has two less toggles than Scrappers / Brutes / Tanks. Having said that, I also like WP on stalkers, having 2K HP on a Stalkers is great tbh. For combos, with DA i would use either Savage or Psi and with WP I'd go staff or StJ.

*Edit*: Oopsie, didn't realize you already rolled a Psi/Inv sorry

No, I appreciate it! I’m constantly changing and making new things so I’m really appreciative of the suggestions. I really do want to make a /DA stalker eventually too so I’m glad to hear you like it.

Oh gosh, so I’d have to have 4 to make an HO+3?

Correct.

Is this true? I can only get it to HO+2 when using 3 HOs to combine. When I attempt +3 it does not allow it. Does anyone have instructions on how to make it +3 and can someone show screenshots of making it happen in game (or on Beta)? I had passed along to the Mids team to take away the +3 for HOs because it seems only +2 is capable. If thats not true, I'd like to know for sure.

Oh, Bopper is right here. Enhancement seemingly can only be +2. Or i am doing something wrong. When i test in the beta server i created allways some with the lvl 53 option of freebies menu but they came out as lvl 50. i never bothered to look into it deeply, so it totally slipped my attention. Funny enough i did allways the 5 Heca+1 unb. combo on my toons because i personally love the set bonuses more then the tiny bit of damage it gives you. If we would start pushing pylon kill times every little bit helps. but for my generell pve builds i have mostly sticked to the set bonuses.
