Aeroprism Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Hello beautiful people! I used to have a tanker on live but I don't think the character reached above level 25 so I can't even remember the powersets. So here I am, looking to try a few combinations but asking for your expert opinion beforehand. I want a tank that's fun to play, involving. I don't intend to solo it so solo-capable is not an issue. So, let's check primaries: Unless convinced otherwise, I'm interested in Dark, Electric, Fire and Ice. I don't care for the look of Bio and Stone. I have played Shield, Rad and Invul on scrappers so I'd like to try something else and, SF and Will just don't look very reliable. For secondaries, I'm a lot more flexible. I would just avoid Rad and possible Elec because I already love them to death on my current scrappers. So, tell me about those delicious combos!
kiramon Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 (edited) Elec/sf elec because it’s good on resists and end drain isn’t a thing. sf because it’s very fun to be brawly take speed of sound and do a separate /bind shift+t powexec_location target jaunt for easy mob to mob engage Edited September 6, 2020 by kiramon 1
Aeroprism Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 Oh my God Staff Fighting looks SO MUCH FUN!
Nyghtmaire Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Fire/claws is amazing. See @Sovera’s thread a couple posts down. For Dark/, still a fan of MA. Pretty beefy combination with capped resists and soft capped defenses. Can be expensive though. But ALL primaries are *almost always* unkillable with enough investment between Tanker ATOs, Incarnates, and throwing IOs/sets at the problem. The Splintered Soul Project: (Nyght****) 21 and counting (18 max). DSorrow: “Give a man a build export and you feed him for a day, teach him to build and he's fed for a lifetime.

If you like Staff then invuln would compliment it very well. Invulnerability will provide the extra to-hit in Invincibilty as staff lacks a build up and Staff will provide extra mitigation with Body staff mastery using Sky splitter. Would be a very tough Tanker. I wouldn't pick elec with staff unless you are set on elec armour as staffs buffs will not offer as much to EA. Staff can help with Dark armours high endurance costs. Fire will work well with staffs extra mitigation and the damage resistance debuff in EotS will work well with burn. Staff will work well with Ice also. Edited September 6, 2020 by Gobbledegook
Aeroprism Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 Good, good. I think I stopped my choice on fire/staff. Do we have the option of completely hiding single power effects now? The Blazing aura pulse effect really irritates me even with dark flames at the darkest of colors.
Sovera Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Unfortunately, no. Fire/Staff is a good choice. Fire is resist based, Staff gives defense. Staff has weak single target, Fire has Burn and Firey Embrace. They marry pretty well. I have a build for it stashed somewhere if you wish for it. Fire/Claws for the win! - Simple guide for newcomers. - Money making included among other things. - Tanker Fire Armor: the Turtle, the Allrounder, the Dragon, and compilation of Fire Armor builds. - Tanker Stone Armor: beginner friendly (near) immortal Tanker for leveling/end-game and Stone Armor framework. - Brute Rad/Stone and compilation of Brute Stone Armor builds.

Hyperstrike Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 This is an incomplete build for Fire/Staff. Chasing Max Resist. Figure this could be helpful for someone searching to min-max their build. Sovera Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 (edited) If you are completely new and don't have much cash I say level with this (and check my signature for money making tips) and even at 50 it will hold up while you're making money. It has juuuust enough resistances that two stacks from the ATO in Guarded Spin will put you at 90% resists while still have 45% to Lethal and Melee. Aeroprism Posted September 8, 2020 Author Posted September 8, 2020 Thank you @Sovera. I'm still rusty so I'm going to have a few quick questions about the build. I noticed you picked Flight over Leaping, even though leaping has some nice KB management in. I assume it's because you can put sets in Flight and not in Leaping? I also noticed you deliberately skipped the last fire power. Why? isn't it good? Thanks for pointing your guide out but by the time you did so, I had already read it voraciously, such good info! Thanks!

Thanks! An important thing I forgot to mention was picking both jump packs from the P2W vendor. It's why I have Fly so late in the build. Spoiler Hover Hover + one of jump packs Fly + Afterburner Fly + Afterburner + one of the jump packs Information obtained from Booper's guide. If you prefer leaping then switch for it and try to take Super-Jump sooner since the jump pack trick won't work. I just prefer Flight and Afterburner gives me something to slot another Luck of the Gambler. The anti KB I play with is just the one in Fly and I feel it is enough, but I had a free slot in your build and wasn't sure where to spend it and so threw a second anti-knockback. It's pretty much a free slot though. As for the last power in Fire it is just a ressurect. Inspirations do ressurects, one of the P2W powers does a ressurect. There is no point in taking it since you're not meant to be dying in the first place 😄 - Simple guide for newcomers.
Aeroprism Posted September 8, 2020 Author Posted September 8, 2020 Excellent stuff! Thank you so much!! Travel powers can wait rather late, Sprint + Ninja Run is surprisingly effective as a ghetto-travel power. 1

But do spend 5k and buy a regular flight pack from the P2W vendor just to so you don't have to navigate around tall walls that Ninja Run + Sprint do not reach.

Staff has a LOT of AoE, so it "feels" like you are doing a ton of damage. I stay in "form of the body". Between fire and electric, I actually prefer the electric more. Capped resists and close to soft capped defenses. What you wanted to know about Bio, but never asked - Tanker - Homecoming (homecomingservers.com)
drbuzzard Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Actually I might suggest fire/stone melee which offers good synergy because you have a combination of a great single target secondary, with a primary that does good AOE damage. I have one of those I've made recently and it's quite effective.

FA/SM was one of my first tanks with HC and while he's in dire need of a proper build and more play time, the extra AoE from FA and the extra mitigation from all the knock in SM play very well together.

Aeroprism Posted February 6, 2021 Author Posted February 6, 2021 @SoveraMy apologies for coming back so late but I'm now wealthy and ready enough to spec this tank properly and I'm looking at the build you provided. I understand most of it except for one thing: You split Gauntleted Fist and Eradication 3/3 on two different powers. Could you explain what benefit there is behind this approach? I tried to understand but I can't see it... Thanks!!
