Let's talk about melee cones, because I suck at them

I just made my 15th tanker on Friday and it just so happens to be Dark Melee. And between having that 180 arc Shadow Maul, better radii, 6 damage procs in Touch of Fear and 5 in Shadow Maul, it’s not bad at AoE at all 😄

Grrrrrrr

I heard a rumor that in the next patch they are going to expand the arc on Shadow Maul to 720 degrees.

Sweeping Cross in particular bothers me since it is a right hook so I always assume it's going to hit mobs on my right first and in fact frequently misses them since they are not within 25 degrees of center.

Is sweeping cross the one where you actually hit more targets if you target enemies that are behind the ones directly in front of you?

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I..**think** so. Trying to recall.

I know there's times when I have clicked a melee cone on a joust move, and somehow smacked a ton of baddies, whereas, other times, I walk up, target, shift, move, and I'm still somehow hitting just one.

Unrelated, but can we make Flurry a cone? It'd be nice to apply that minor (and not always successful) Disorient to more than one foe.

I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. Just search the AE mish list for my sig @cranebump. For more information on my stories, head to the AE forum sub-heading and look for “Crane’s World.” Support your AE authors! We ARE the new content.

I have one toon where I just went, screw it, and have Shadow Maul, Sands of Mu, and Flurry. I cannot recall if he also has Cross Punch, but if not...someone's getting a Respec. 🙂

I naturally start stepping back just a 1/2 step or so inbetween being rooted in activation... badguys tend to follow you, and things behind you end up moving around in front of you, so they end up in the cone, or closer to it.  I may also step sideways a bit, or not depending on the situation.  But I don't waste time lining things up.  Any adjustment is secondary to keeping damage output going.

Any melee cone with less than 90 degrees arc, I assume that most of the times I use it, it will hit only a single target. And thus I treat that power as a single-target attack when deciding whether its DPA is high enough to be worth using in my attack chain.

I don't use any special techniques to maximize the number of targets for the narrow-cone attacks. As I only expect to hit one target, anything more than that is gravy.

Attacks with cones of 90 degrees or wider, I assume 2-3 targets per attack when deciding whether its DPA is high enough to be worth using.

For these cones I target the second-closest opponent, hoping to get the closer opponent within the cone that way. But as others have said, repositioning is only worth it if it can be done within a very short time, otherwise the setting-up time is basically a prolonged activation time.
