Damn. If this were a Do it all, poorly thread, I'd have so many entries.:-)

The others gave you your answers already regarding that. I'm not a hardmode player or someone who soloes AV's or GM's or anything so yeah, my WS would def struggle there. I was referring more packs of mobs. So far I haven't had any issues in regular TF's, but yeah, if you're looking for an AT to melt the hard targets, my beloved WS probably ain't it.

Yup. Totally get it and agree. I was just wondering about WS because this thread said 'do it all' - a WS is definitely limited and I would not put it in this category.

I struggle to think of which of my ATs could be effective in all scenarios. It might be a brute. Maybe my Stone/Rad or TW/Bio brute? Hmmmmmm. I also think my INV/EnergyM tank would work in any and all game play.

Sorry, you are correct, I strayed away from the title/OG thread question. I just saw the PB post and wanted to be silly, lol. But yeah, a do it all AT? Oof, can't say I have any real good suggestions for that, though I think an MM could cover a large majority of stuff.

Mastermind that uses Provoke and Bodyguard

The /traps secondary for Mastermind has Seeker Drones - if you deploy them within aggro range of a spawn, that spawn will see them and attack them.  This provokes a full alpha strike from your henchmen if set to Bodyguard.  The beauty of using Seekers (as opposed to Provoke) is that you, the MM, do not take that initial aggro directly; instead you have a pair of very fragile disposable minions for that purpose.

This was the linchpin for my "Demolition" build, figuring out a way to not be the target of a mob's ire, yet still getting them to attack first and having the full benefit of Bodyguard.

Dunno, but all mine tend to become scrappers even my gazillion Empaths.

My Earth/Storms are very versatile.  Single targets yes, large mob okay, hard target sure.

Then again there's the actual scrapper, my Claws/SR.  I still recall the day, even moment, when it struck me this character could pretty much do anything the game offered and live.  I was leaping off an over pass into yet another mob meant for an entire team that almost certainly had an AV in it (as had several of the previous mobs).  I hadn't bothered to tab to find the AV ...

I find a Storm/Ice Defender or an Illusion/Storm Controller are pretty much Swiss Army knives of versatility.

And (ahem) Illusion Rad Controllers are pretty handy, if I do say so myself.

A melee Fortunata feels like it can do a lot of everything while also leading the charge.

Forts in general can provide a lot of benefit.  Team buffs, damage (ranged or melee), control, and even tanking a bit.  The only thing they can't do with their powers alone is heal, though you can dip into power pools if you must have it.

Bots primary also gets Seeker Drones after level 32, and Fold Space will yoink a spawn right on top of them.  Fold Space also means a MM doesn't have to take an alpha strike as well, and the response by a mob will usually be decently distributed across your minions, so no specific alpha strike there as well.  (FF secondary is excellent for this, though it's a bit passive.  I imagine /Time and /Thermal would be useful too.)  Though occasionally you'll lose a bot, they're easy to replace.

What are your thoughts on a frontline leader or "Do-anything AT"?  Thanks for reading!

I've been thinking about this question. I'm going to answer it by thinking about a level 50 (exemplared) AT that can switch roles in a PUG, and not simply survive/complete challenges in the game. My answer is also motivated by primary and secondary options within the AT, with no regards to Incarnate powers. (non-Epic) Power pools are open to just about every AT, yet mileage does vary.

My answer is: straight-up Fortunata, although for maximum flexibility having a second build (Night Widow) as well as a third build (specialty) will get you even more mileage.

Defensively: Widows can be built for extreme positional defenses, and can rely on scaling resistances and other tricks (I'm a fan of Unrelenting, but there are others)... and much of what a Widow can do for itself it can also do for teammates.

Offensively: Widows have IIRC a flat damage scale of 1.00 (melee and range), which is completely respectable and means not having to worry about fractional trade-offs when considering attack chains, enhancement set options (including %procs, especially debuff/control %procs for enemies without purple triangles).

Control/Debuff: Fortunata are not going to out-control Dominators or Controllers, and they won't debuff at the level of specialist ATs, yet for content that requires more than just brute force to complete I found that my PUGs have been helped more by using Confuses and Fears than strictly attacking.

Also, this might be blasphemous to suggest around here, but it might be worth noting that the Rebirth community also has the Guardian AT, which is basically an attempt at a sort of wide-range emulation of VEATs (combining Assault sets and "defense" powers that incorporate benefits to your team), and fit the roll you're thinking of fairly well, to my mind.

I’ve always thought it would be cool to be granted a Tank Mage once you got a character to 50, as an unlock perk. I know, farmers, and all that, but I don’t care. Something with the best attacks and best defenses.

Basically the CoH version of the Phoenix Force or Power Cosmic, that grants your character godlike status.

Just being able to make something that can punch Rularuu in the nose or stop a crashing asteroid would be pretty awesome. But that would also require making new Super Epic Endgame stuff. Doable then but probably not now.

That’s interesting. I rarely take Traps and I mostly don’t use my Masterminds like that. Rather I do the bum’s rush at mobs. I do have a Bots/Traps MM, though, so I’ll give this a go when he gets there.
