Super Strength Regen Brute run!

Recommended Posts

I have started a Super Strength Regen Brute

Special thanks to Spaghetti Betty and Doomguide2005 for tips.

I do not have a build yet.  No doubt soon.  I used my alt account to farm him to 34.  Then i Respec’d him so all slots were frontloaded to powers available at level 15-16. Then I ran a Posi 1.

Initial thoughts.  This is not Invul lol.  You are tending that Health Bar like a home garden.  It was not horrid, but a noticeable difference.  Not sure if that will be a constant theme or just a lowbie phase then obviously in AV fights.  Super Strength.  Not going to lie. It felt real good to walk up to a Ruin Mage and launch him in the sky with Knockout Blow then finish him with Haymaker when he lands.  (Both powers rocking 1acc, 3dam, 2rech at this level) The crash is annoying…still.  I am enjoying Super Strength but will be shelving it after this project.

After coffee this morning I will run a Posi2 then Respec for a Synapse build.  I will just do TF commander TFs on this run.  Getting it to 50 is the goal, while learning it a bit and getting the accolade.  Each 5 level shift I will Respec and start to bring in sets as they make sense.  Have a few globals and a 4 set of Reactive Armor in Tough. SOs are just more powerful at 15 and are 95% of what is there. There will be a few more Set Pieces on the 20 build and quite a few more on the 25 build I suspect.  Then by 30 starting to lay in the bones of the real build.

I have decided to just finish farming this guy out.  Had a bad experience on a Synapse with him.  Just not fun for a few reasons.  Solid sets, but slow killing one at a time and dependent on team to not be morons.  The team WILL let you down.  First rule of being a Brute.

I do not enjoy farming so this project will go to the back burner.  I'll post something when it's at 50 and I can see ITF performance.

Sorry to hear your low level experience didn't quite go as planned. I should've mentioned the maximum enjoyment you could have with a toon like this would be at 50, considering both SS and Regen desperately need slots to perform well.

I recall you not having too much experience with utilizing damage procs, but they ease the blow of Rage crash by a bit, and push your damage to ridiculous heights while in Rage. Seriously, my SS Tankers will just straight up deal 900+ dmg with a single KO Blow with doublestacked Rage and proc slotting. And proc'd out Foot Stomp will blow away mobs.

Mainly on Excelsior. Find me in game @Spaghetti Betty.

Actually I had the slots thing worked out.  By taking the toon to mid 30s in a farm and then respeccing with all the slots front loaded to powers available in a POSi or Synapse.  Likewise I know SS well, and use the time to reposition, activate Rage back up, use P2W attacks, and inspiration management.  The toon is good.  Just no patience for PUGs lol.

We should play sometime. I love duos and small team settings. Duo TFs have created some great moments for me. We can be SS pals.

I'll be sure to add you to a government watchlist my friends list the next time I'm online!

Fun fact: I'm usually online when vampires walk the streets. At least in my timezone.

For regen on a brute, a few things that will really help:

You can take MoG at level 30 now.  It's only 15 seconds, but that's 15 seconds where you should feel pretty confident that nothing will kill you.  That's enough time for one of your heals to come back, or to pop an insp.

I'm a big fan of getting an additional "oh @#$@" button in the form of Unleash Potential.  Totally underrated power pool, IMO.

Going Soul Patron pool and taking Darkest Night at lvl 38 now will keep you safer than a cheeseburger at a vegan convention.  Three lvl 53 Enzyme HOs will eventually give you the functional equivalent of 16% additional defense.

And, as always, remember that Instant Healing is a proactive choice rather than a reactive choice.  If you are starting to go down, it's too late to pop it.  Pop it before a big battle, not in the middle of one.

I have not tried it, I always shied away from the gimmicky combo systems.

The gimmicky combo system has a better reputation than the secondary you were trying. 😛

The only real downside to the combo system is it tends to promote the thought, "I cannot use that power until I have built max stacks" when in fact you can use a power regardless of stacks and sometimes should.

I have been rebuilding this guy every 5 levels as I level.  I have started to get the feel of this.  Obviously building to Defense is a fools errand.  Too much debuff out there and too little Defense.  So I tried to get 50% resists across the board.  Did not make it everywhere.  The theory being they will need to Alpha me for 2x Brute health to put me down or I just heal back.  You do play this proactively.  There is a lot of planning 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes ahead.  "Click power management" with long cool downs.

I have 50’d this and opened my Alpha slot.  Just emailed some Emps.  I have slapped in the above build and will be joining a few TFs, hopefully an ITF.  I still need a Manti and a Numi for TF commander.  I have not played it with RoP but I followed advice in another thread and pit it in build.  It should be a nice option with this click happy build.  Basically it seems like you are running around with the ability 1/3 to 1/2 time to be as buffed as if you just leveled.  Just need to pick which times to use the buffs.  Not sure how that will stand up in long AV fights but I suppose that is why we have teams lol.  So used to Invul forget about everything or Dark, ignore everything then Heal w/e you need it for all your health back

SS/Regen is pretty much a blaster with more HP and more self heals. The rage crash pretty much negates your ability to play/build defensively. Embrace that kill or be killed mentality and go all in on offense.

Also, don't skimp on slow resist on a regen. Your survival depends on your click heals and soft control and -recharge will kill you and make it a miserable experience because you can't do anything to save yourself.

Put FF recharge procs in powers that can take them. Regen needs all the recharge boosts it can get.

Instead of going darkest night for safety, you can go all out with arctic breath

You can completely proc out footstomp and arctic breath but you'll lose out on 30% slow resist. which you can make up through base buffs and accolades if you are diligent about it. This setup allows you to do damage at all times, even during rage crash, because you need to kill stuff so they don't kill you.

I can already tell without looking too hard at @Nemu's that mine is probably really similar to his (because I am just as awesome as him not really), but I will talk about mine anyway.

It features 100% Slow Resistance. This is most important above all else when it comes to Regen, because if your clicks aren't coming back, you are dead.

I opted for Gloom and Dark Obliteration for a couple of reasons. I like having Gloom for an ST rotation, and Dark Obliteration is a solid AoE that will also add to your knockdown spam.

You could go Barrier Core instead of Ageless for another defensive click, but I included Ageless Radial for debuff resistance. You pretty much have no protection against debuffs of any kind otherwise, but if this is not a concern to you, then definitely go Barrier.

I also want to draw attention to my Lore choice - Storm Elemental Radial. This is your Darkest Night, at least for AV tanking. The Monsoon will just sit there with Hurricane on for a huge -tohit debuff. I just wouldn't recommend dropping it in the middle of a mob. Much like your Destiny choice this is also just a recommendation and not so much an ultimate answer to everything.

Nice to see so many different takes on such an oddball combination!

Here's another take, (but I get that it's not for everyone):

Only three offensive attacks from the primary, and slotting Hand Clap to the MAX!  I go with Unleash Potential over Rune of Protection because you get a lot more value from the defense and the healing from the former than from the resistance of the latter.  Moment of Glory is a set mule once you max out recharge, and I used it for endurance and slow resist.  Levels 38-44 power are kind of up to you, but you'll probably want some extra offense and if you get three slots of a ST ranged and two slots of an AoE ranged, you've got your 100% slow resist.

I like the Triumphant Insult proc in Integration, because it's sneaky.  In and of itself it's pretty useless, but it's gonna help you stun a lot of bosses, especially if you choose Control Hybrid.  If you want to take only two ancillary/patron pool powers, take taunt and stick another one in there as well.

I have not tried it, I always shied away from the gimmicky combo systems.

its just 2-3 attacks which modify the effects, circle surrounds a finisher power, thats it.  No crash like savage, nothing difficult to build like dual blades.

How does slow resistance work, anyway?  Is it like mez resistance where "100% resistance" means that the duration of the slow is cut in half?  Or is it like damage resistance where "100% resistance" means that you take no slow?

If you have 100% Slow Resistance, it means you can never be slowed, ever. No -speed, no -recharge. Only freedom.
