I joined a pug TF.  I check the other characters powers to see what sort of support they bring.

 

One character was a level 22 corruptor.  They had 1 power from their primary.  They had 3 sorcery powers, 3 presence powers, and a teleport power.

 

Now I am big on power pools these days but that build made no sense to me.

Interesting.  I wonder why they wouldn't just go with a defender, if we're assuming they're focusing mainly on their secondary and the pool powers.  I suppose if they were going with a secondary like storm summoning, you could leverage scourge a bit more...

Lol that might have been me what was the name. And depending on the toon it's for rp I'll take powers from the side Pools until my toon has better training in there primary and secondary powers if I'm lvling faster then my  RP.

I've occasionally run into "pool boy" builds. They take the bare minimum required from their primary/secondary (3 powers?) and fill the rest of their picks with pool powers. I've even teamed with one at lvl 50. Doesn't really matter for speed runs or easy content, but I wouldn't want one on the team for a MO run or anything hard mode.

No doubt someone either building to concept or grabbing the planned power pools first.  If you PL you can be real lazy in how you bring in powers

I quite like off the wall builds. I love that people can play this game in kooky strange ways and still come up winning. That's one of the beauties of the game for me - you can play this game so differently every time.

Two powers from primary, six from secondary, and SIXTEEN pool powers!  My favorite thing was to fire off Whirlpool, Geyser, then Spring Jump while yelling CANNONBALL!  If I timed it just right it looks like my jump caused the big splash from Geyser.  It was surprisingly effective both solo and in teams.

I have a lot of fondness for strange, off-meta builds, or simply attempting to match/exceed the performance of typical builds with less conventional alternatives. You can even learn some unexpected things that way.

 

However, a build that's intentionally quirky and a build that's simply terribly constructed can sometimes look very similar at first glance. You'd need to know what the maker was shooting for to really judge which it is.
