I wish i could play a melee defender !!!

So i was talking to someome in chat, and they asked why we couldnt have melee defenders, and i told them, they are callled Tanks.  So with that in mind, i thought i would make a new Tank.  I already have a lvl 50 Inv/Super Strength tank.  I was thinking of making a SR/SS Tank.

Ice Melee. Drop Ice Patches and keep mobs flopping while the team kills safely.

 

Radiation Armor. Ground Zero heals your party.

 

Dark Armor. Keep on fearing and stunning the mobs.

 

Fire Armor: Ultimate defender build: kill everything as everything being dead they are incapable of harming your team.

Rad armor/Ice/dark.  Have the rad heal, ice patch, and darkest night.  

Edit:  Could also take sorcery pool and get spirit ward, then medicine pool for heal and rez.

This sounds like a lot of fun... And I've been thinking of rolling a new Rad tank anyway...

What this team needs is more Defenders

I am currently working on a Rad Blast/Sonic Resonance Corruptor built for melee play.  Because the first two Rad Blast attacks have such horrible DPAS for non-Blasters, I'm skipping/ignoring those and taking the melee attacks from the Fighting pool as well as a melee attack from an Epic pool.  One nice thing about Rad Blast for this is that it has two AoEs (plus the nuke) that are usable in melee range.

 

Mez protection, capped S/L resistance, and decent resists to most other damage types.  A decent bit of regen.  It won't be the sturdiest melee fighter around and certainly not the most damaging, but I'm hoping it will be a fun combo of buff/debuff and melee.  One other bonus of playing SR in melee range is that the other melee fighters will get the benefit of being in the big bubble, which they normally don't get when I play SR.

 

I built a similar character back on live and quite enjoyed it.  I'm hoping this one will be even better.

Playing Rad/Ice feels like a melee controller to me more than a defender.  That said, I do think a few of my Rad Armor tankers have the "2 million points healed" badge and all of that was from Ground Zero, which isn't even slotted for heal. 🤪

 

Edited for hilarity: My Rad/Rad tanker has the Three million points healed badge: "To the Rescue" (Praetorian version of "Medical Specialist")

Shield/Kinetic Melee would be a contender. Buffing your teammates with Shield. Causing enemies to do -Dmg with both AAO and KM attacks. Some nice control with Shield Charge, Burst and Repulsing Torrent.

 

Overall, I think it is a great Tanker combo for keeping not just you, but your TEAM alive.

One call out: just make sure you’re fine with all the one handed animations on KM when you run shield as your primary 😂

If you go that route, add in Soul Mastery for Darkest Night for another -30% damage.

AAO is -7%, as is KM attacks in siphon mode.

 

That could leave a lot of mobs essentially tickling people to death.

It's -30% for DN in PvE.  You might have looked at the PvP value, which is -40.

 

Also, keep in mind you only care about these debuffs when fighitng enemies that are at least +3 to you (common situation at level 50).   Purple patch then makes DN a -19.5% dmg debuff and AAO -4.6%.   Still good.  Just not -37% good.

Good call outs by both of you. Honestly it seems very synergistic (I only have this combo at lv 26 atm). This would just be a very endurance heavy melee defender 😂

Good catch, I meant to type 30% but my fingers are fat, or lazy. Take your pick. I updated my post.

Shield/Ice with Manuevers.  Hands out a nice chunk of defense to the team, Ice Patch, a hold, and a 15ft AoE Sleep gives tons of utility to a team.  Plus AoO for a little damage reduction. 

 

Does the DDR of Grant Cover apply to your teammates?

I LOVE the VEATS and their flexibility. I just wish you could adjust the colors of their powers like the other AT’s.
