Send an email with attachment to your global handle with a backslash on the end. No message, just takes your stuff and poof!

(Note for GMs: I didn't lose anything substantial because I was testing with cheap insps.)

Just checked it, too - sent 1 inf to @oklahoman\ and it disappeared. That's 1 inf I'll never get back!

Shame I can't use this bug to get rid of those 10 Vanguard Merits just hanging out in my salvage.

Why would you test this in this fashion?
Just curious.

Now I know to not have a global name with a backslash at the end of the name. So..thanks, I guess.

Common accidental keystroke.

While an error like this may be unfortunate and there should already be a solution to it implimented in some way, here is a simple solution that could work for most situations...

Create an email to yourself, check then double check to make sure the recipient is typed correctly as well as having something in the subject line and main body of the email and send it. Leave the email in your inbox with the intention of replying to it any time you need to send yourself something. It cuts out the time and effort as well as accidental typos that send your item into the void.

The only downside to it is the email tab will always be in red because there is an email in there but if you can live with that then it definitely outweighs the other issues.

Are you looking for Ultramode style, candy coated enhancements and powers?

You can also just drag a merit from your salvage into the attachment box.  It'll auto fill your global.  100% worry free.  Can drag the merit back out if you don't want to send it or want to send something else.  I always just end up sending influence and 1 merit when I trade inf between characters.

Thats not a bad idea either, It'd be safe to say that anything you can only email to yourself would do the same thing... like Monsterous Aethers, Hero/Vil tokens and Emp merits.

I haven't tested, but I'm guessing the same thing would would happen if you sent to someone else?

Yes. I created an alternate account and tried sending inf' to my 1st character there, but the global wasn't what I thought. (I hadn't changed it yet.) So I went to the alternate account and corrected the global, and the e-mail was still gone forever. Send to something non-existent, watch the sent disappear.

Interesting enough, I sent an email to a non-existent account and instead of losing it, the inspiration got dropped right back into my tray.

I'm guessing there's some bad sanitation of inputs happening.  Wonder where everything is winding up?

What?! Dang, I did learn something today.

Accidents can certainly happen to anyone. Even accidental keystrokes. I think if we're just careful before we send things that are important, we should be fine.

For those curious, here is the typo that found me the error:

/emailsendattachment "\q@Taxibot Yellow\\q" x 0 2 0 x
