In this particular section of the forum, do I need to spell out what's wrong with this picture? I hope not.

I don't know the who, or which server, but between all of us who monitor this particular section, we should be able to let folks know these are still seeded at 10M.

I have noticed, more than once, on Indomitable, that a bid for 10M will sit for about 10-15 seconds before it goes through. I can only assume the hamsters that feed the wheel that drives the AH are malnourished.

The Auction House is cross server.

I merely state the server I was on when I used the AH and experienced the issue; this way people aren't inclined to think it's because the server is so densely populated.

I have known the AH is cross-server since day one. Thank you for making it clear I need to be more clear when I write.

Oh, then that's actually a good point to make! The least laggy server having a delay. Well I was buying these earlier today and I didn't experience this. Then again I did 10 mill inf flat, not an extra 01.

The extra 1 probably an over-spending prevention measure.  100,000,010 would catch one's eye if the last digit was supposed to be 1.

Yeah, when it happened to me...the first thought in my head...well, the second. The first was "hurry up!", but the second was to check the bid count which was at 0. And I know this couldn't be true, because I had placed my bid. Then, it iterated one, and then the sale went through.

My thinking was that, a newer player, or someone not well-versed in the AH were impatient (like me) and had extra funds (like me), they might be inclined to overspend when they don't need to. They just need a little patience.

One thing every somewhat serious player of the AH will agree with - Patience is key when winning the AH game. The longer you can wait, the cheaper you can buy stuff, and the more profit you can make if you're going to re-sell. And that extra inf income comes from the players that are not patient.

Lots of people, myself included, tack 1 Inf on to a bid to go above common listing breakpoints. To my knowledge, there's no overspending protection on the super or winter packs.

Where are we going, and why am I in this hand basket?

There isn't - but there probably should be.

It seems to me that all seeded items have been put up for sale as the equivalent of one million offers of ten at the seeded price.  This means that people can pay more than the seeded price; people can put the item up for sale at either above or below the seeded price; people can buy them at less than the seeded price is someone else is willing to sell them at less than the seeded price.  The only difference between salvage and super packs (to my knowledge) is that you can only obtain super packs by buying them on the /AH.  What you do with them afterwards is up to you.

"Common listing breakpoints".

So, I can understand if you're looking for, say, an LotG, bidding 5.1M instead of 5M if you're in a rush.

But I do not understand going even the 1 inf above 10M for something that is seeded at that price - unless you're just unaware it is seeded at that price.

Unless it's somehow just a typo. But that seems highly unlikely to me. But I only say that based on how I do things. No idea how others enter numbers into text fields.

The price is irrelevant.  Whether the item is seeded is irrelevant.

The extra 1 at the end is "I'm paying attention to what I'm typing in this field, so I'm not going to fuck up and accidentally spend a billion inf* on ten super packs by adding an extra 0."

I'm too obtuse to grasp this. For me - the extra one means they're going to accidentally spend a billion and 1 inf if they mash an extra zero in there. Or a billion and 10.

Have I mentioned that I can be obtuse? 2 months later, and I finally get it.

How do you know what the seeded price is for anything? Is it listed somewhere?

It is but I don't recall the location of the listing.  Common salvage is 10k, uncommon 100k, rare 1mm, brainstorm ideas 50k, hero/vigilante packs 10mm, winter packs 25mm.  There are some more legacy items but I think those are the main ones.

Our forums, particularly older patch notes can be a chore to find. I often have to refer to HC Wiki and look for an external link, or use Google.

But, I am successful in at least finding where the listing for invention salvage was.

Here.

It's hard to put into words everything this change did to my brain. Mercenary or not, I was selling rare salvage. Not a lot, just the 40 or so pieces I had from the random drops from a merit vendor - back when I really didn't know even a fraction of what I know now about marketing. I was not in the habit of looking at patch notes, nor was I "Plugged in" with the actual smart people who read that stuff before they log in, I imagine. It took me completely by surprise, and yeah, it pissed me off, because I had to pull all those pieces of salvage and either keep them and lose the listing costs, or relist them, and it would be tough to know where the price for rare salvage would settle at.

I kept them. I figured eventually, I'd use them. But the reward merit costs for them was more than I want to think of. At the time, before this change, it seemed like a smart idea. Or, at least a familiar one. I knew from retail spending 2M for a rare salvage was fairly normal.

As I said, it took my by surprise. As a result, I got a little crazy with the farming and marketing and did so many different things, as I had no idea what else they were going to change in the future. And it wasn't immediately clear to me where to find out. For whatever reason, when I would visit the HC forums, I'd see this:

So, I'd scroll down with my mouse, and then I'd see this:

Obtuse fool that I am, it took me a while to discover all the sections between those. In any event, I have adjusted my mouse so it doesn't behave like that anymore, lol.

But - I have digressed.
That change is what motivated me to scratch out as much influence as I could before they made any more changes! I wouldn't be too greedy, because I wanted instant sales, because each week, I thought the HC Devs might tax my hustle again.
I ran into a player who I could give credit here to, but maybe he doesn't want credit for helping create the market monster that I turned into. But he shared the idea/fact of afk-farming, something I had never heard of, nor thought would be possible.

So I tried it - and actually had my heal on auto, and not burn. I was afk - what did I care how long it took? lol, it just never occurred to me any character would be able to survive for hours on end in the middle of a ton of +4/8 npcs without some kind of a heal. Shows how basic my thinking was from retail.

I did eventually level up a spines/fire brute, organically, outside of AE and then made a build with all those fancy winters and ATOs. It took all the spare inf I had, but eventually it paid for itself. And then I wanted to do something else...but couldn't because of the farmer. Then came the idea for a second account. And then the idea for farming to scale.
And with each farmer came those drops - which is where the FAT inf came from.

It never occurred to me how much faster inf could be made by just buying recipes cheaply and crafting them and selling them. But, I am proven to be obtuse. I did eventually figure out a lot more - but man, that one change to salvage is what led me to create 3 more accounts and have farmers going on 3 accounts while I played the 4th. I was going to make more accounts, but the crafting/converting takes converters. and time. And I still wanted to play outside of the farms, so I just stopped with that.
