Gravitus Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) If you traverse a PVP zone for reasons other than PVP and do not wish to fight other players, does etiquette dictate they leave you alone when you request it? Or are you just fair game and too bad so sad? Edited September 26 by Gravitus 4
Lunar Ronin Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Fair game. You entered a PvP zone, with plenty of warning that PvP may happen in the zone. Now can you politely request that the naughty PvPer leave you alone? Sure. It however doesn't mean that he or she needs to abide. 10 5
Skyhawke Posted September 26 Posted September 26 The only times I go into a PvP zone is badge hunting or to get a Shivan. If someone waylays me, it's on me. I stepped into the ring, can't complain if I get tagged. That being said, I've never seen anyone go full aggro on me. Usually, it feels like we're all in the zone for the same reason. IF there's an announced PvP event or I see that one side or the other is "winning" the zone, I either leave or proceed with caution knowing that if I get ganked, I get ganked. I guess if I asked politely and they still came after me? Again, I stepped into the ring and took the chance, can't cry because it bit me in the butt. 5 1 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior
JKCarrier Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I've been to the PVP zones a number of times, usually hunting badges (I used to be very diligent about getting all the exploration badges on every alt, since it was an easy way to get merits in the early game. Nowadays, I mostly don't bother). In all those times, both here and on the old live servers, I've never seen another soul in those zones. I wouldn't complain if someone came after me. That's what the zone is for, after all, and I'm the one intruding. I'd probably just stand there, let them get their "win", and then leave and come back later. Probably not very satisfying or fun for the PVPer, but that's about the best I can do for them. 😉 3 2 --- 64453 - This Was Your Life? - An AE arc that lets you relive your hero's greatest triumphs! High_Beam Posted September 26 Posted September 26 II may not like or participate in PvP but that is part of the deal in a PvP zone. There is no etiquette. Psyonico Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I only go into PvP zones to get the badges needed for the villain accolade powers, so not very often. On live, I would usually get frustrated when I got hit in a PvP zone, but knew it was on me for stepping into the zone. I don't think I've seen anyone else in a PvP zone since joining Homecoming, though like I said, I'm only there sporadically and only a few minutes tops. 1 What this team needs is more Defenders

Most every time I would emote and finger cut back to my world. It's no fun at all just killing someone who isn't participating. Your boos mean nothing; I've seen what makes you cheer.
Hedgefund Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I get all the PVP zone goodies, so I spend some decent amount of time pursuing shivans, patrols, badges and sometimes nukes. I've only had someone attack me once, turns out it was a new player. I sent a tell asking if they were going to continue attacking, which was fine if they were, but I was just badging and I would just do other non-PVP zone things if did. They actually backed off. Let me emphasize, I'm not saying they should have, but a quick two-tell exchange worked things out. But yeah to answer the question directly you're fair game. Personally I take a few precautions, like doing a /whoall (which won't show hidden players or course) and in Sirens if I'm someone's bounty I just leave. 2

tidge Posted September 26 Posted September 26 In PvP zones, I fully expect that PvP can happen. Personally: I'd only "worry" about being defeated 1-on-1 in Recluse's Victory, in the other zones most at-level ATs should be able to make an escape if things are too annoying. It's been years since I saw teams in anything other than RV. 1

Frostbiter Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Reminds me of the one time I had to go to the Imperial City In ESO just to make a suit of armor. One guy was camping the entrance and killed me about 4 times before he got bored of it. Excraft Posted September 26 Posted September 26 As others have said, you're fair game in a PvP zone even if you're there for non-PvP related activities. You do get more than ample warning you can and will be attacked by other players when entering the zone. I will say that the overwhelming majority of PvPers I've run into in RV are very cool. Once they kill me, I'll send them a tell and let them know I'm just there for a badge or whatever and most are very cool about it. There's one or two complete dicks, but most are very friendly. 2

Triumphant Posted September 26 Posted September 26 The only PvP zone I ever entered is Recluse's Victory (I think that was the one, at least). I spent about two hours in there smashing turrets and stuff, but I never even saw another player. With bases and LRTP, I'm not really sure why anyone would need to go into a PvP zone, unless they really wanted to. 2
Apogee Posted September 26 Posted September 26 If you enter the zone you are fair game. If you broadcast asking to be left alone, well, you are just asking for trouble. 2 1 1

More that I don't understand PvPers who will kill some who isn't even trying at all to fight back. I don't know how PvP works in this game either. If someone bushwhacked me while I was badge-collecting and mapping in a PvP zone I would very similarly sit there doing nothing and come back later. Snarky Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I knew a long time player with a Pvp strategy. He set up two accts. One killed the other. All. Night Long. Every night. For years. The PvP I/O drops made him ludicrously rich. There is a story from live about a MM who had a murder trap set up. He intentionally griefed other players, supposedly to write a paper about it. Did it for quite a while. I have had decent luck badging PvP zones on Excelsior. But if you bring teams in to badge RV with all (the many) badges that take a long time, expect an opposite team of folks to arrive. Best then to have a "hit team" in your league of real Pvpers who fly cover for non Pvpers 1

"Dying in PvP doesn't give you debt as long as you die in PvP. Player kills don't hurt your experience. The catch was that Twixt wasn't interested in getting player kills, he would actually avoid it. He, instead, would teleport your character and paralyze it next to PvE mobs that were present in the zone. By paralyzing your character, it would leave you helpless while the PvE mobs actually killed you, thus getting you debt." iltat Also: "If Twixt had been doing the one killing, there would have been no issue at all. In fact, many players used the teleport power to bring victims into little traps (consisting of mines, timed bombs, or other things) to get themselves easy kills without so much as a single complaint against them. Instead, Twixt was specifically gaming the system to cause debt for the other players." iltat His whole premise was ... no RULE said he couldn't do what he was doing. Kaika Posted September 27 Posted September 27 (edited) If you ignore the big warning signs posted out side and the loud countdown when you enter the zone, that's on you. That's sorta how pvp works in games like this, as long as the game doesn't forbid it, it's allowed. "Etiquette" only exist to people who are willing to follow it, and if no hard rules enforce it, to many people it doesn't exist. This is a big part of the appeal of open pvp in games like this. The game gives you all the warning in the world that "People can and will attack you here" and they are entirely within their rights too as long as you remain in the zone. Personally, back when I used to PvP everyone was fair game at least once, and anyone who entered that zone was a valid target. However if I already killed someone, there was a cooldown where you get no rewards for doing it again so if it seemed they were just here to collect some badges I would let them go. Unless they started getting mad with me in chat for killing them once in a pvp zone, then it became my duty to show them how pvp zones function.
