Anyone get a request to release a name you just got?

Wondering if anyone has finally gotten a name they were hoping for, only to have someone request it back?

I've had one so far, and while I'm not typically selfish with names that someone wants if it's one I'm not really attached to , I'm kinda like...I dunno, you've had months to either level up or just even log in a character with a name you've obviously been sitting on for a long time, and only NOW you're concerned?

Point them to any of the anti-name-release threads on these forums.  Contained within are many helpful suggestions about how to come up with new names if the one you want is taken.

I've only ever had one request from a player I knew from retail and let him have it. And I wasn't using it. I should check and see if he's still playing.

I don't understand? Does the message mean that they are playing some sort of name economy, and/or "the one that got away" is the most important of the bunch?

This strikes me as not someone requesting a name back as much as socially engineering (ie: lying) to get a name they wanted and were unable (ie: tol slow) to get after the policy went live.

If it's worth anything, I can independently confirm that the player in question was indeed going through some tough times, came back to the game having lost many of their signature character names, and tried very hard to get them back. The person who had secured 'Tru' after they lost it did not respond to their enquires, and that character name is directly tied to one of their main RP personas.

 

Also for what its worth, they release a lot a names they don't use, and suggest many more on the name threads. They're not a name camper. And you'd make their day if you did trade names with them. 

Of course, anyone would understand if you attached a high emotional attachment to the name Tru. Just do know that they were using that name since Homecoming started, came upon some difficulties, and lost it (and quite a few more) to someone who never once touched it afterwards. They (Tru) were not just sitting idle on the name for years and years.

I hope that they don't mind that I'm speaking for them so publicly, but I feel I have to. They're my friend.

I got my namesake back on Excelsior. That made me happy. If someone tries to request that name back I’ll cut them.

The story about 'hard times' seems worthy of sympathy, but this situation does not read to me as 100% sincere. For example: if the player was able to login 72 hours after name release, what was stopping them from logging in the day before name release.... And why do they have similar names they are willing to 'trade'?

 

It sounds like the player in question may have so many names that they are more like a burden than anything else.

If it's a fairly uncommon name and I have it, and have little time invested in it, then I'll consider giving up a name.

 

That said, if it's a common enough name that literally hundreds would like to have it, and I just happen to have it, then not likely. Unless it's like a lvl 1-20 on a server I don't even play on and don't plan to ever play. I'm realizing now that I'll never have the time to play all of them, maybe a hundred or so with any real commitment. I didn't have a list of popular words to snipe when HC started up, or names of players from live whom I for some reason despise and wish to mess with by taking their name, I just suffer(?) from altitis. Ideas pop into my brain and I create them in game with the tools I have available. My motives in CoH have always been my own fun and entertainment, nothing more.

 

If i have some low level with a name you really really want, and you have some great concept for it, talk to me about it.

No funny business, I don't want or need inf or in-game items, I'll either answer yes or no after some thought.

Yeah I had that thought as well

It just seems weird to complain about losing a name so shortly after the name policy kicked in. I made sure all of my non-50s were logged recently so none of them were flagged. If you took a break from the game, came back 6 months later, and saw what had happened, then I would have a bit of sympathy. To paraphrase Beyoncé, if you like it, put a 50 on it.

It's a long-standing understanding in the world:  First come, first served.   I lost "Barnstormer" that way back in the original game. Rather than complain or pester the owner, I put the little grey cells to work and came up with "Ace Barnstormer".  It revved my creativity and improved the character.  Two decades on, and I cannot fathom him ever being just plain ol' "Barnstormer".  If the name came available, y'all can have it.

'Tru.' is a 50 currently. 'Tru' was my 'live' account name.. I was never able to get 'Tru' on Freedom or Homecoming.
