I don't play past level 49 either (I have 3 50's and I don't plan on leveling any more to 50), but I slot sets. I frankenslot procs or for specific bonuses. I usually have at least a couple set enhancements slotted by level 20. I don't think that frankenslotting would be worthless to you. There are procs for all kinds of things. I do think that the archetype sets have very useful archetype-related procs and, most of the time, good set bonuses for slotting as few as 2 in a power. 18 hours ago, Diantane said: Note: I'm 69 years old ... But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Without_Pause Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Even if I don't have the heart to level something to 50, I'll at least pop in the one slot wonders and some cheap attuned uncommon sets. mistagoat Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I usually come up with a build before I even make the toon and then I gather all the IOs it'll need before even 1 Outcast is ever "arrested". Those IOs then get slotted as soon as my level allows and the slots become available. I'm not a huge endgame guy so 1-50 is mostly the meat and potatoes of the game for me as well. SOs will get you to the destination but IOs offer a world of difference. Honestly, it's night and day! Those set bonuses are extremely valuable, especially in the earlier levels. Nothing wrong with running SOs, they'll get the job done, but you may be doing yourself a bit of a disservice by eschewing IO sets. Doc Spectre Posted December 5 Posted December 5 If you like SO enhancements then once you can slot level 35s you should check for Common IOs on the auction house. Players make a bunch of the for the crafting badges so you can often get them really cheap on auction (often cheaper than the equivalent vendor price SO). They will have higher bonuses than an SO at 35+ and won’t expire. 1
Oman Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Morning all. Being an "old" Champion server player (two three weeks after game launch), I would like to "old school" it with pre-ED builds. Before ya all have an aneurysm, it would be limited to HO and SO builds exclusively. Without looking at code, seems like a pretty simple if else block to check for the existence of an IO enhancement in the build. Waiting on the ice water....

Doing a pre-ED build is not pretty simply doing a checkmark. It would mildly be days if not weeks/months worth of work. It's perfectly fine to do a build using SOs and HOs but factoring in ED. If ya add/remove an IO, it gets stored/removed in the Arraylist. When ya go to calc for ED, if arraylist.size == 0, don't do ed. It is all ready doing a ED check, does this power have more than three acc's, if yes, do ED. It would just check for IO's instead. No IO's, no ed.

The repeated narrative across people who have actively worked on the code is it being a mess. See below, and don't get people started on code for the Auction House. The display for the last five sold is widely deemed wonky. 3. My thoughts while being an actual Sr. Software engineer? (chuckles) "Hey, can you change how we do these three reports. Instead of reporting on Sundays, we need them for Monday." (days later) "Please never ask me to do this again." Code changes cascade. They can cascade in places you never even thought about. What was a simple fix isn't. I mean, the game is literally balanced around players using ED. The war about ED was decided over a decade ago. Doing code for a pre-ED build is a sheer waste of time when things like KM and Regen are in the states they are. Or, you know, fixing the AH. It would be one thing if there was a genuine player movement towards the idea, but I can't see it happening even if there was. 2 hours ago, GM Crumpet said: Be grateful it even works at all. I missed the pre-ED by a few months when I started but people were very angry at the time. The characters were wildly unbalanced and very OP (code for fun to play) but inventions did help to balance characters out. Anyone who has a fire farmer knows how situational an unbalanced character can be, but phenomenal in the area they are built for. My fire farmer zips through +4/8 fire farms like everything is made of tissue paper, but put it in a real game situation and it dies if you sneeze on it. 1 1
Ukase Posted December 6 Posted December 6 7 hours ago, GM Crumpet said: I missed the pre-ED by a few months when I started but people were very angry at the time. I came in the middle of issue 3. I started out as probably the single worst player you could ever have on your team, mainly due to my ignorance about slotting. People would complain about endurance issues, but I never had any because I had always placed an end reduction in each power - because the details below the power listed what they could take - I thought it was required. I remember the anger from the ED change. I remember a lot of confusion about how things would work, as I had just figured out I was supposed to be slotting 1 acc, 3 dam and 1-2 recharge! I might get nostalgic on occasion, but I'll pass on going back to those days.
lemming Posted December 6 Posted December 6 4 hours ago, Ukase said: I might get nostalgic on occasion, but I'll pass on going back to those days. I played in beta, and really the only nostalgic bit is just the newness of being able to play a super. Of course, the sheer buginess of everything was apparent too. Especially when certain bugs kept popping up which made me concerned about their source control. (Just in comparison, HC seems to have to organized much better) On ED, I remember it and being semi-annoyed that I had to reslot a couple things. I also understood why. (Heck, anyone who GM'd champions was used to having to rein in exploitive builds) On the suggestion of ignoring ED for SOs, glancing at the code, it "might" not be that difficult, but seems like a wasted effort to add another game balance variable.
