Then there's your answer.  An official response is not in fact owed to every such request, (whether you or I think it warrants one).  Sure it would be nice to have one whenever requested, but that's not how the real world works...

I'm not sure the superhero video game forum is the place to make a stand about how the real world works, but I think we're just going to have to fundamentally accept we have differences of opinion here that will not be swayed by the other party.

Sorry to punch a hole in the hyperbolic list that you made to make a point...

But I'm the only dev who could've possibly said anything about the Labyrinth, and I can promise you that I never said this, because I actually like the suggestion and am considering adding it now that I've seen it. But the context that I'm seeing it makes me disappointed.

It benefits nobody to pessimistically assume and spread misinformation.

Cobalt? You're great. Don't let anyone tell you different. It pleases me to have you as a member of the Homecoming team. 100% hit rate as far as I'm concerned. I hope when you go off to do your other indie ventures you post about them here so I can find em and try them out.

I could have -sworn- i seen somewhere Av's wouldn't get added to the lab groups. That was not a swipe at you i swear. I'm not being sarcastic when i say i love the lab. I genuinely love the lab of fog.

The list was more things I've seen suggested thousands of times that haven't happened, so it was more assumption they never would. Not to make a point, or a political statement or a swipe at homecoming. I'm sorry if it looked that way

Wow.  I go away for eight hours to earn money to buy Christmas presents only to find  . . . . this

Dang it guys!  You hurt Cobalt's feelings and made other GMs have to moderate in my absence.

Look, I may have the title of GM but I'm also a player and a human.  I make mistakes all the time.  I also do not know everything.  Yes, I know, you're all in shock at that revelation.  But it's true.

I did not know that there already existed a policy against adding player-memorial NPCs.  If I did, I would have said so up front.  If I had, that might make Indystruck feel better, but it might not.  And I have a fairly good guess that even if I had that the forums would have similarly spiraled.

Some of you have sent me PMs about how I moderate.  Specifically, how I have a double standard of warning and giving timeouts to this group but not that group.  Sorry, but you are going to have to take my word for it, I spread my warnings and timeouts evenly.  You have no idea who has been given a warning, or a timeout, for how long, or if it was me or some other GM.  Only the player that got moderated knows that.

So yes, what I mostly do is hide posts and ask people to be excellent to each other.  I hide them for a variety of reasons but mostly because they are personal attacks against other posters.  I don't think that you want me or the rest of the GM team to be handing out more warnings and bans, but it seems like some of you ARE asking for exactly that.  You are all free to make suggestions and you are also free to disagree with suggestions and to debate and discuss in good faith and with respect for each other.

I am truly sorry that a player passed away.  Even if I never met them.  They were a part of this community that loves playing a game where you can be any kind of superhero (or villain) and tell as much of your story as you want . . . or just go punch and shoot things.  The game is 20 years old and that means we are unfortunately going to see more and more members of the community pass away and every one is a loss.

Sorry for the ramble.  These are my ramblings and not official policy of HC.

gadgets and utility belts

I think this would be better discussed in a new thread in this forum section, but I would like to see what you think about gadgets and utility belts (a primary and a secondary?) versus traps.

I've made many suggestions that I'm pretty sure are unlikely to happen, but I have made suggestions that ended up in the game (did other people suggest them to? I'm assuming so) and I have been directed to things in the game that I didn't realize were there after making a suggestion.

At any rate, I think it is fun to discuss suggestions that I am or might be interested in .... in their own thread and, hopefully, individually by topic in this forum.

  • Thanks 2

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I'll be open and realistic here: There's nothing on the forums that was going to make me feel better over the last few days, only either somewhat content or furious. I'll cop to flying off the handle for the "what would your friend have wanted" remark out in public here, yeah, but I also just felt like there was a very infuriating presence on the forums in regards to a topic being like "no thanks" to memorial NPCs when we had gone through the avenues to try and do it the right way, only for the response to not even be in that topic (which has already been addressed by the GMs as not being a good look, which I appreciate and I'm glad similar won't happen in the future).

So, ultimately, that's what I want: similar to not happen in the future. That's basically what my advocacy here is for. No one bats 100 but you can take measures to do better in the future, concrete measures.

There's a reason for it not being in the memorial thread.  I didn't want to "harsh the vibe" so to speak.  Everyone was remembering their friend and I didn't want to metaphorically go to the funeral and start a fight.  I assume other GMs/Devs did the same.

Gadgetry and utility belt are unfinished set concepts for power pools from live. I like to sprinkle them into conversation every so often in hopes we get it going enough that there's interest.

The list was more of a haha commonly suggested things that have 30 threads each, and my own idea I thought was a no that hopefully becomes one of the yes! It landed wrong and the adult thing to do was to apologize to someone you respect when you did something bad. I'm happy to report my own asks making it in, so people suggesting things is something we should protect more and encourage.

What about a pinned post of "Never Gonna Happen" suggestions?  You know, like a bulleted (and editable) quick reference list of things that were suggested but are confirmed shot down and never happening?  Such a post would be easy enough to edit with links to the other threads (cite your sources).  As the most helpful person here, it was easy for me to think up this excellent idea.  I even have 2 nominations for the first things that should go onto the "Never Gonna Happen" list.

1 - Bugfixing the broken Brute +Fury ATO (it's clear that Brutes getting less Fury from hitting enemies higher level than them, and more Fury from hitting enemies lower level than them, is intelligent game design and WAI).

2 - The in-game memorial suggestions (just link to the closed threads and make it be totally clear).

I dont think it would matter if there is a pinned post, as most would probably not read it.

I highly doubt they'd want a "we're never gonna do these things" post/section.  Not only would it look bad, but it also precludes them from ever actually addressing or changing their minds about things at a later date.  IMHO, and at least from an operations standpoint, it's better to maintain "soft policies" that may change at a later date, (however unlikely that may in fact be).

Also this. HC saying no to something from what I've seen does not mean "no forever."

And this is a good reason why them having a list "of never going to happen things" is a bad idea.

HC is allowed to change their minds, if they find they have the time, tech or resources to do something.

I'm fine with the response to a suggestion being "it can't happen, for now".

And realistically it is impossible to expect a response to every single suggestion in the suggestion part of the forums.
