He said he wasn't going to post.   There's still useful bits to the forums.

I'll miss his commentary though

As someone who has gotten temp banned elsewhere, my rage didn't last. He'll either walk away or come back to posting. Odds are he'll check out for updates even if just for that which will keep him around. Are we really going to put odds on him resurrecting his posting? The dude who's persona is a vampire? At some point you have to accept going to a forum everyday to only not post isn't really a hill worth dying on. You either come back posting or you walk.

I'm sure he'll be lurking in the shadowy corners of the forums.  It's kind of his thing, after all.

I'm going to stop with the Memeposting for a minute.

FWIW judging by his profile page ol' Snarks is still Lurking (with a capital "L") and visiting every few hours.
Since posting this leaving thread he's also pipped the 10k "reactions received" reputation mark... and it's probably worth drawing attention to the fact that only 229 of those 10k reactions (less then 2.3%!) have been negative.

@Snarky - If this is the first time in your >8.4k posts that you've been told by someone that you've "crossed a line" then I think that deserves some (blood)cake rather than a self imposed posting ban. You're far more likely to be mobbed by hugs here than by pitchforks. If you're enjoying the break from posting then great, but if not then dry your undead eyes and get your crusty posterior out of the coffin and back behind the keyboard already.

Alas. I have had so many bitter disagreements with several players on these forums. I did get a warning once to "chill".

I can't remember if I chilled, or just proceeded to insult the player in question via DMs. If I did, it was because I honestly felt unreasonably disrespected. I can handle being reasonably disrespected, because I have to be willing to admit I'm wrong, when I'm clearly wrong. But if it's not clear...well, I tend to stick to my guns.

The forums can be a fun place to visit...but man, sometimes, it's like a bad game of Risk Online. You think you're doing well, then SMACK. You're dead. Someone got your cards, and did a chain kill and won the game.

I will have to send Snarky an in-game message since he only rarely gets on discord, assuming he sticks with his no more forum visitation policy.

If anyone has a harsh word to say about Snarky, I promise you, he's really a stand up guy. He only plays a vampire in these forums and in-game. He's a lot like Colin Jost. He's real good at trivia if he knows it. Seriously - Snarky is a renaissance man. He studies German, music, tries to stay in some kind of athletic shape, too. And works a lot to support his feeding habit.

Granted, it's probably making him look bad if I've got good things to say about him. So I take it all back. He's an evil vampire. Don't trust him.

I'm at a point where I wonder why we keep the suggestions forum. The forums, in general, have their problems, but the suggestions forum specifically can get uglier than truck stop sushi, and fast. Realistically, I see very few ideas from there make it into the game at all (which is a whole other problem) but there are the usual suspects that frequent there who will fight tooth and nail against any idea posted, as if it was immediately going into the game with the worst possible implementation and would thereafter ruin the game completely. To me, it looks less like a "discussion" subforum, and more like an argument subforum.

I appreciate the suggestion sub-forum, for a variety of reasons. Number one is:  Even though my perspective is that a LOT of what gets posted there is pretty close to "I had this stray thought while playing", there are IMO some more informed-by-lots-of-play suggestions that I think are worth discussing. Sometimes there is more "under the hood" to share, sometimes there is more information not known to the person making the suggestion, sometimes the game offers what the person wants and they just don't know.

I don't mind the "personal preference" types of posts, until those threads degenerate into "me/we right, you dumb". By now (five years of HC forums) it should be well-known which game mechanics yield different attitudes held by large numbers of players without trying to establish "right" and "wrong" opinions. Including: Group Fly and Knockback, see also Fold Space, AoE Controls, etc. By now, anyone of us who has been around since 2019 should be able to repeat the arguments from all sides of those arguments... if not, that just means we weren't paying attention! None of us should feel obligated to repeat the perspective of an opinion different than our own, but we absolutely shouldn't be short-handing our disagreement by insulting one another.

I also like to see somewhat complete suggestions, even though (as noted above) we are unlikely to see them implemented, especially since members of TPTB have their own preferences of what to work on.

I do think that for some of the threads, the forum mods could be a little more sensitive to "brigading" (in the negative sense) within threads, as it is often those types of threads that end up getting heated. I think "downvotes" can serve a purpose as shorthand for disagreement with a suggestion, but it gets silly IMO to have the same users simultaneously downvote every contrary post in a thread while also upvoting those more allied with something they've already written. I've also seen some too-slow-IMO mod action to address sealioning, that IMO had swifter action been taken then I think fewer timeouts would have been given for a series of spiraling threads.

So, I completely get this perspective. And, the past few months, I think I have to give the benefit of the doubt to at least a couple of the usual nay-sayers. I'm not capable of really grasping how one thing might affect several other aspects of the game.

One person pointed out to me in detail things it just hadn't occurred to me to consider. But man, it did seem to me like they slash every fun sounding idea that's posted. Ultimately, even if most ideas don't get used, I think it's still helpful. We never know when there might be something clever the rest of us hadn't thought about.

I was warned today that the Devs considered my posts in the Suggestions Knockback thread insulting.  And that further infractions will lead to consequences.

Actions do indeed have consequences.  I will no longer be posting on the message boards.
