I'd also make the most boring-yet-useful Pool Powerset : Slots. Every choice just gives you 2 or 3 extra enhancement slots to freely use elsewhere. If possible somehow the later ones would even allow you to go over 6 slots to a power.

Seriously, I read through all the entries and found something good in each one.

 

I also had other thoughts.

 

Inspired by @BassAckwards, I thought of a different change:

  • Thinking of Becky the Tarantula Mistress from the Dr. Aeon Strike Force:
    • Add an option to launching the ITF to make Sister Solaris like the Becky of the ITF.
    • Get Sister Solaris through the ITF, get the Best Foes Forever Badge.
    • On April 1st, Becky and Sister Solaris swap Task Forces!  Totally topsy-turvy taskings!  (Two more Badges...?)
    • @Cobalt Arachne, what do you think?  😺

And then....

 

Finally, a worthy opponent.

Clown Summoning as a new MM Primary.  Just imagine.

 

T1: Throw Pie
T2: Call Clowns (Happy, Sad, Angry)

T5: Encourage Clowns (shoot 1 random Clown, locks out summons for 30s, remaining Clowns +50% Damage 30s buff)

I'd start remaking all the base skins for character models and clothing pieces. I'd want to make new textures for everything. If anyone wants to point me to OBJ models, I could do some mock-ups.

That sounds like the Freakshow content that I would love to see!

(Villain side) Which Freaklypics Team will you support as they cause havoc?

 

Then, both mission paths end up in a open streets map where you battle the Freaklympics team you didn't foil before the finale OR you fight alongside your chosen team during the big mechs fiight.

I actually have a list...

 

1. Mastermind customization.  Probably hard to do but tons of requests for it, it's high on my list of things I'd really like to see.

 

2. Lighting.  The lighting in this game is weird and inconsistent.  Needs a pass to get a handle on it.  I assume some combination of wonky scripting and wonky shader code is causing the problems.  Would take a lot of time to sort out, methinks.

 

3.  Collision detection and response is weird and bad.  Also needs a pass to figure out and get it working better.  Likely needs both client and server changes.

 

4.  Red side needs attention.  We've talked about this a lot so I'll leave it at that.

 

5.  Long skirts and probably tunics and loin cloths too for both men and women.  Some other basic choices in the costume creator like a "leg detail" option (just like we have chest detail).

 

6. League code needs attention.  Shouldn't scramble on zone load, and there could be some usability passes too with the UI.

 

7.  Hats with any hair.  Needs tech.

 

8.  All gravity geysers need to die in a dimensional warp.   Replace them with teleporters or something that works.

 

OK that's probably enough nonsense out of me.

I know me, and I know my skills at c and c++. The closer I am to real hardware addresses, the less useful I am, so I don't think I'd be a great match for someone to work on the CoH codebase. However, I was *okay* at understanding Win32 calls, and window management like that is *usually*, but not always just window handle properties, and then layout work.

 

I agree with the first part.  You can scale the UI and the text, but some windows (like NPC mission intro text) do not scale, and their text is pretty micro.  The UI could use a usability pass too, especially from the view point of hi-res monitors are a thing now, and people with aging eyesight are a thing too.

 

However on your comment about Windows calls, I'm pretty sure the whole UI in the game is custom windows done with DirectX or OpenGL.  There's no actual windows calls in the code, just one big call to "full screen exclusive" and then after that everything is a DirectX draw call.

Considering that Athletic Run and friends are now available free in game, I don't see any reason to not leave toggles and passives active just like Athletic Run.  Attack powers that require an animation though, yeah those have to be disabled.

 

If you want to suppress just the SFX, that's fine I can get behind that.

I'd go through and deal with all the little niggling annoyances which still hang around from live:

 

  • Regen Paragon Protectors' MoG changed to match the player version.
  • T9 Armor "godmode" powers lose their total crash, reduced to 25% Endurance instead.
  • Fix mobs like War Wolves and Red Caps ignoring boss scaling notoriety settings when transforming.
  • Add mez protection to Kheldians in human form
  • Offer some kind of tool to allow players to fix mobs stuck in walls that doesn't involve using TP Target.
  • Remove Longbow Eagles' "afraid" mode.
  • Rework Regeneration to bring it back in line with other defence sets. Ban everyone who make a "nerf Regen joke".
  • Make some way to bypass enemies' "affect only self" powers like PFF on Fake Nemesis to make them stop turtling up, only for them to stand there stupidly waiting for it to wear off.

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there's more.

Redo the majority of the Paragon map zones to make actual sense and give them a bit more synergy so that together they feel like a cohesive city rather than a bunch of areas just slapped together without rhyme or reason as it were. Don't get me wrong...for game purposes they serve the intended use as mobility obstacles but little else.  The Rogue Islands are better laid out with Praetoria being even better organized. 

 

More pet choices for MMs. 

 

More Villain story arcs by zone with mini-bosses and 3-8 linked missions. Frostfire in the Hollows is a good example.

I'd analyze lots of play data, host AMAs, engage with the community to gauge interest in content updates, lay out development goals and roadmaps. I'd want to focus on addressing bugs, but the mod author (I occasionally publicly release a mod every once in awhile for some games, Skyrim being one of my more popular ones) in me would also want to push the envelope a bit with some interesting ideas for new enemies, power sets, etc.

 

Overall with an online game I don't like rocking the boat too much too fast (I used to host an Apache WoW server back in the day that had maybe 200-300 concurrent players, but I only kept up with it for 6 months or so, and also GMed for a private lineage 2 server for a year or so as well).

 

That said having a full time job planning a city, running a small nonprofit and being the father of a toddler, I don't have time to play near as much as I'd like and definitely don't have time to get involved with development (part of the reason I hung up the weekly forum discussion topics after running them here for a year).

 

Kudos to the devs that we have as they do a pretty decent job (despite the few differences of opinion I've had with them over the years -i.e. stealth exclusivity) considering this is no one's regular job.

I think new costumes for holiday events could be a good idea. Not necessarily anything ridiculous, I'm not sure how much time the devs have to work on CoH or how incredibly janky the code base is but if there's even a slight possibility of new clothes, heads, that kind of thing.. I think that's a very good goal to work towards. Generally speaking, when it comes to projects like this I think the same approach servers like TurtleWoW have taken are the best, instead of fundamentally changing the game you create content in the spirit of the old game. You stick to the original ethos, that doesn't mean you can't have new spells, abilities, or missions, it just means that you don't turn the game in to the Ship of Theseus.

 

If I had some kind of magic device that meant I could generate content I would probably try to add a little something for everyone, new PVE content, a little PVP (not sure if anyone does it here I'm new) some new costume pieces and something for roleplayers. I'm aware super group bases are good venues but I do miss the pubic zones we had in CO. More specifically the plethora of roleplaying locations. There's too many to name. CO right now is flatlining, it might be good to capitalize on these people by making it clear theres content for them. And yes, I know some roleplayers are weird!

 Originally wasn't it so we could have enough acc to hit through it?  I feel like back in live I used to use power boost and aim to hit them while in the bubble.
