This week I have the pleasure of teaming with a player who runs one of the most effective odd ball builds I have seen in awhile.

They run a Gravity/Force Field Controller that specializes in herd mobs. And they are damn good at it. The place the pet on top of the tank, then Repulsion Field entire rooms with multiple spawns into the kill zone.

What are the crazy effective builds you have seen that don't follow the damage is everything mantra?

Ooo I remember participating in that thread. It can be fun to play around secondary effects rather than just worry about damage all the time. That said getting some decent damage can be its own reward when you weren't expecting it.

Ice Melee/Electric Armor Brute. In Praetoria, I was a god almost from the get go and as I leveled it only got better. Good hp? Check. Full energy resists (what's Praetoria's favorite damage type?) before level 10? Check. Ice Patch to stop ambushes (heh) cold? Check. Once I finally left Night Ward, the high faded to just being pretty good...but man, in Praetoria that build was unstoppable.

I won't repeat the weirdo I posted in the other thread because I made a different kind of monster Blaster.

I made him Psy/Energy with the initial goal of being a "Blapper".  But here's the thing... Psy has extremely long-ranged blasts, and Energy has Boost Range.

As soon as I got Boost Range, I knew I had to see how it paired with the sniper power, Psionic Lance.  Well? I one-shotted a guy from orbit (only way to be sure).  His group went aggro.  Even though I didn't move an inch, that group gave up the chase simply because I was too far away.

He also has softcapped defense to Smashing, Lethal, Energy, Negative Energy, and Ranged attacks.  I sacrificed Resistances, and a little bit of damage to get there, but I can't say I've noticed the compromise. All I know is there is no distance, near or far, where the enemy is safe from becoming a glowing pile of viscera.

They got out of breath and gave up. No cardio work does this.

This is hard to answer because while I can see the set bonuses and powers chosen, I have no idea how they have anything slotted. I think the most creative impressive thing I saw was @sentenza on a petless MM with an envious badge count.

Most of you probably do not know i run almost all Dark….

okay, seriously though.  That was for context.  So I built a Fire Fire Fire Blaster about a year ago.  For lulz.  The build goal was very straightforward.  Cram as many +damage% on as I could.  Then for incarnate powers always the max damage options.  Now vet level 135.

This last week Justice Superteamers ran a 6 person +4 ITF.  We had no melee. Someone asked about tanking.  One of the other Justice players who has seen this said “Snarky will tank on the fire blaster”. And i did.  No problem.  Because when things disappear the agro is managed.  This worked well.

At one point there was a server message about being in the red.  Someone teased me in discord about advertising for cash.  Because i had been doing it all day.  So i stopped and typed out “server is now red.  Redside processing fees of 10 mil inf please send to @Snarky.  Thank you”.  The team moved on to the first general fight on the bridge while i was doing this.  Couple deaths.  Some comments about “i thought that would work…”.  I joined the team and started leading again with nukes.  We went merrily along

I have always been surprised by how survivable this little defense no resistance Blaster is.

i picked mr sleepytime as a mind control/trick arrow controller because of the 2020 AT statistics... since they were the two least used, separately, power sets. he could barely kill anything by him self, but man was he good on teams. (this was before i discovered the wonders of arcane bolt.) things got better later on, and trick arrow has been buffed, but still i am pretty sure it's most ineffective solo lvl 50 that i have. 😄

One of my favorites was a gravity/trick arrow troller I made, who abused the hell out of Dimensional Shift.

Drop DS on a pack of mobs, drop an oil slick, disruption arrow, acid arrow, step into the DS and light the oil slick, step back out.

Watch the mobs flail and burn while heavily debuffed. Pick off any that manage to extricate themselves.

Rinse, repeat.
