What are the sfx like?

I have been in a lot of survived quite a few explosions or had crappy earplugs. Certain frequencies kill my head.

I don't play  any Sonic blast characters and will not play with one on a team.

The SFX are atrocious. You will get the migraine debuff before the fight is over.

We "let them cook" increasingly convoluted gimmick sets every fucking update.  Think about the context in which Sonic Melee is getting this feedback, it comes after 3 or 4 failed gimmick sets that people do not like.  Seismic Blast's gimmicks still don't even work correctly.

This. 100%.

They do not listen to feedback. They release their pet projects how they want them because they have a vision, and then after a year when people don't use their failed experiments, THEN they go back and address the concerns people brought up during testing. Or they just abandon the project and move on, leaving things half baked.

See: Storm Blast ramp up issues, Labyrinth of Fog lack of meaningful rewards/incentives issues.

They're cooking but only for themselves.

Yes, we've had this talk. The devs want to try something new, Let them cook. If they could improve the numbers a bit for the T1 T2 play the set's nearly there in terms of damage since I was getting three minutes on a pylon with no snipes or whatever. 30 seconds off and it would be about there, IMO.

I'm by FAR not a proc bomber in any sort, but all i see still is a very clear decision to try to intentionally make most of the powers not work for procs. Again by in large i'm not a huge proc person usually only using one per power, but especially for key ATO procs and such there should at least be better stats for them to work in both cases, which this set clearly shows it's trying to make that not possible intentionally, but even without procs still doesn't make DPA sense when you can only fit a few powers into a build. So for a set to need all 5 powers to maximize the ST damage, and still hardly have any working place for decent proccing, it just isn't right at all. And that 30 seconds off would pretty much be by fixing what i mentioned with sandman's whisper taking it to 12s with higher damage scalar. And repeating again how awful it is to need to take all 5 ST powers to maximize the ST damage. No build can really account for that logistically.

Though it feels like regression I'm not sure if Attune should not revert to being the T1.

Yes, for approximately 30 seconds if someone takes Attune first they will have a toggle instead of an attack, but using Brawl/origin power and 30 seconds later of hitting white mobs with 100% XP on and they are level 2. This is not hyperbole, I can replicate this if needed.

This would *still* mean taking the T1 and T2, but not a T3 as well. (I've no idea what the new T3 would be). Gimmick would still be in place. T2 would empower the T1 (Attune), maybe the other powers would empower it as well.

I know this approach has been tried but the set has been iterated since.

Again, give attune 1s cast time, move to tier 1, keep strident echo as is at tier 2, increase sandman's whisper to 12s rech/damage scalar, make sonic thrust tier 3 with 8s recharge, and more chance for knockdown (or swap them, sonic thrust with 12ish second rech, and keep sandman's at 8s and swap tier 3/4). change attune's mechanic to work with any two single target sonic melee power, capping at 2 damage increases for the DOT. Would easily fix the set's ST flow outright and address all issues.

A shame, cos playing the new verison of Attune is definitely more user friendly than the previous iterations, but it seems to have no shortage of back-end issues. I appreciate changes were made to try and make the power feel less awkward to use, but it seems the awkwardness is happening on the technical side instead.

If we had a powerset like Sonic Aura to match, I'd probably throw the Attune idea at that instead, and turning it into the powerset's AoE aura with similar mechanics. An AoE toggle that reduces enemy resistance, taunts foes, and gives your attack powers an energy DoT effect.

So basically like i said earlier, by just making attune a self toggle like a DOT aura, but instead of doing that itself, it adds dot as you attack the enemy with your sonic attacks. So aoes would prompt aoe damage, ST attacks would prompt a stronger ST DOT on the enemy.

They do not listen to feedback.

Untrue.  Many changes are made every page in closed and open beta, and sometimes even live, based on player feedback.  But sometimes we hear you and disagree.

This is a focused feedback thread on Sonic Melee.  Please keep your focus on the set.  Opinions are fine.  "I like/dislike it because ______ " is great.  "I tested and found _______" is even better.  Complaining about the past does not belong here.  You can start a new thread for that if you wish.

That would make it sonic melee just isn't good for scrappers and stalkers but also leans into being used for the "tanks" especially if we get a "sonic armor" test sometime around summer 2026

Tried the new version of Attune on the brute I made on the other server.  This feels better even though the functionality is the same.  Double clicks work correctly and the target keeps the effect if it runs away for whatever reason.  Nice work.

Sound Booster [Tanker/Brute/Scrapper only] - Self +DMG, +To Hit, +Special
Greatly boosts your attacks for a few seconds. Slightly increases chance to hit. Moderately increases the duration of mez effects. Moderately increases the chance for Sound Manipulation powers to induce migraines.

Does that boost the duration of mez effects outside of Sonic Melee (ex. Aura of Insanity)?

Sadly the implementation of Attune has to go back to a toggle. There will be a few more mechanical adjustments on how it all works though, but Attune will have to be a toggle. Double click accidents is something that will have to be addressed via engine tweaks at some later time.

Captain, I really like this set.   But Attune as a targeted toggle is really confusing and just doesn't seem to fit melee types very well.  I recognize that you all want to do something different and not have the same set with different fx.   But could Attune be a self targeted damage aura/resist debuff that causes damage when you use the other Sonic Melee powers?   It could even be stronger based on the power, so that the idea of using the T1 & T2 are maintained.

So it would work similarly to Disruption Field in Sonic Resonance.   Give a small (10% or so) resist debuff to foes in melee range, a small DoT (say maybe half the damage of Quills) and then cause bonus damage when you use the Thrust and Strident.

I really like the power as a click, but I understand that the implementation isn't working.

I won't be playing the set in any serious capacity either in further beta testing or on Live, because constantly toggling Attune onto enemies isn't fun to me.

I think given the amount of user issues Attune is having we really aught to just retire the power and go back to the drawing board.

There has been no shortage of player feedback regarding poor experience, and a slew of technical problems crippling it's ability to overcome the pain points people are reporting. It seems that when the power is changed to suit the players, it breaks the code, and likewise when it is changed to fix the code, it no longer suits the players.

It was a novel idea, and I respect the out of the box thinking, but it just doesn't seem to be viable in it's current form.

I like the idea of making a Self Toggle, but instead of making it apply to all attacks. Leave it to Strident and Sonic, but make both of those Direct damage, and they apply a DoT each, stacking 2-3 times each. Thus it plays the game of stacking damage on High HP target while weaving higher damage blows between. Maybe even let Earsplitter cash out the DoTs for a extra burst of damage (With the Smashing/Energy being fairly common reisistants [according the Galaxy's spreadsheet], would be cool having a way to detonate the DoT for extra raw damage)

Maybe Attune could work like a self-centered Storm Cell, where using your Sonic Melee attacks would cause the invisible entity to use its attacks on your target?

Have to say, I liked the idea of Attune being a toggle DPS.  Like a ST target but possibly better damage version of Enflame.

  • Strident Echo - Melee, DMG(Energy/Smash), Foe -Res(Debuffs), Chance for Hold
    • Strident Echo deals minor damage over time. It has a low chance of causing a migraine, leaving the target shaking in pain and helpless. If used in conjunction with Attune, you will match your frequency with the target's resonance increasing Attunes damage over time.

  • Attune - Melee Toggle, DMG(Energy), +Special
    • A high-intensity sound wave that matches the resonant frequency of your target. This power does not inflict much damage but can be sustained for continued damage over time that will be boosted if you strike the target with Sonic Thrust or Strident Echo. Each of these attacks will further increase the strength of the damage over time.

Well, I maked a stalker last night, and I thought "why get attuned right off the bat that would be gimping my character so I picked Sonic Thrust". It seemed kind of tedious to get to level 3.

So during the day I thought "Why not? Gimp myself with attuned first!" And so ... I did.

Now, I did use brawl and the same origin power on each character.

And ... picking Attuned first made that stalker level to 3 much faster than the first one.

Go figure.

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Gentle reminder that the game before lv21 is tutorial baby-mode, and worrying too much about specific progression in this artificially ultra-easy "Beginner's Luck" phase of the game (that many people skip) is not important.  I'm more interested how people feel about the set from lv22-50.
