Dont you like it when in rl coh shows up for a lol
PaxArcana replied to microc's topic in General Discussion
When my then-g/f and I first started playing, for the first couple weeks when we would be out walking somewhere, seeing a plaque or similar would give us a momentary compulsion to go read it. Because: History Badges. 😄 -
I am a poor AT... No ones wants me :'(
PaxArcana replied to Ardzog's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Because all of his suggestions were, really, only for PvP. Each power, a single suggestion, that seems to clearly be purely PvP-motivated.- 25 replies

When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
Except, and here's the thing ... they may already have been queueing up that power. Scatter happens, THEN their AoE power goes off, and instead of catching six or eight guys, they get two. And it happens again, and again, and again. Their only choices are "suck it up" or "don't use that (possibly very important) part of your attack chain anymore". If you don't understand why that might be annoying ... then you shouldn't be playing with heavy KB, on a team, with people you don't already know. -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
I would not say that, myself. I think BOTH parties should adjust. KB players should try to knock things around, without scattering them or pushing the fight further and further away from the melee guys. Aim for a wall. Circle around to throw single targets TOWARDS the melee / INTO the placed-AoE debuffs and DoTs. Melee guys should try to position themselves, so that the KB player has a convenient wall to throw the enemy against. And, accept that occasionally having to move back into range is just going to happen. And, here's a god one: make sure the enemy doesn't have a drop-off at their backs, or you're going to have to jump down after them. Inevitably. AoE guys should also try and accept that _some_ scattering will happen. Maybe discuss with the KB player things like, "when the mobs first clump up, give me a couple seconds to fire off my big AoE before you risk any scatter", or, "when I've got a bunch of guys in my area DoT / Slow-patch, try not to know them all OUT of it". On a team, you have to learn how to adapt to your team-mates' powers and tactics. Everyone on that team needs to do this. That's why, when I join a TF, I tend to look at my new team-mate's archetypes and powersets ... so I have some idea what they're likely to be doing, and can adapt my own approach to take that into account. -
... being able to do that would remove all possibility of using color-coding to actually mean something.

... no. Tankers are why we HAVE an aggro cap. Fore tanks, specifically. Who - as people right in this thread have related - used to be able to herd ENTIRE ZONES into one great big gaggle of "ignore everyone but that guy over there, he called my mommy a rude name" NPCs that everyone else could just burn down with impunity.

Justice, again, my problem here is that the OP billed it as primarily for PvP. Got complaints about being a mastermind in a group
PaxArcana replied to plainguy's topic in Mastermind
/Cold says, "yeah, the pets are all softcapped too - plus Frostworks' Absorb is like healing damage before it even happens". /Empathy says "no-one dies on my watch". 😄 /Forcefield says "you can't easily kill pets who're hardcapped for Defense, and mine always are." It all depends on both playstyle, and secondary powerset choices. 🙂 -

PaxArcana replied to plainguy's topic in Mastermind
.... which is precisely why I mentioned Area of Effect. So, okay, you're softcapped and in BG. I drop a 300-point AoE on you and the pets. You may take only 75 (and then resist it down to very very little). But each of your pets just took 338. How many times can that happen, before you start losing pets ...? At which point, the pet-killing snowballs (lose the Tier 1's, and you'll be taking 2 shares of 5, for 120; the pets will take 1 share of 5, plus full damage themselves, for 360 apiece). Then, once your pets are all dead ... you just got a lot squishier. 🙂 -
It would be nice if they made the events somewhat regular in scheduling. Something like, say ... Halloween: October 20 to November 10 (22 days / 3 weeks-ish) Winter: December 15 to January 5 (22 days / 3 weeks-ish) Valentines: February 7 to February 28 (22 days/ 3 weeks-ish) ... and just stick with those dates, permanently, moving forward. 🙂

FoTM as a tool to decide what sets and powers to tweak.
PaxArcana replied to Razor Cure's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Level advancement should do that, Meta. Otherwise ... if that data is even in the database, it'd a whole hell of a lot of work to ask of Cipher. He originally didn't even want to break it down into multiple legel ranges (currently 2-31, 32-49, and 50+) ... except several other people echo'd my original suggestion to do that, and I explained why doing so could be useful (e.g., to spot changing trends in Powerset and/or AT popularity, so as to avoid over-correcting if something seems to have overwhelmingly runaway popularity). -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
Nope. TALK to the guy scattering stuff everywhere - explain that while that's an awesome form of mitigation when he's solo, it's really irritating to the melee and AoE guys, and could he please try and aim for walls, and corners, and so forth, in order to still knock the badguys on their backsides, without causing problems for those Melee and AoE types. Then, if he persists in just scattering stuff willy-nilly ... yeah, kick his ass off the team. But, give him the chance to say "OH, I didn't think of that", and at least try to modify how heuses that KB, beforehand. 🙂 -

And this sort of effort, is exactly why I wanted to see those same statistics, split up across several level ranges. Robotics, as a Mastermind primary, looks ridicuously popular overall, and is stil quite strongly dominant at level 50. But when you get down into the 2-32 level range, it barely has a lead over the second-place Primary (Demon Summoning IIRC). So, the popularity you see in those statistics, is an early surge, not an ongoing trend. 🙂 -

IRL yes. The analogy, however, holds (and is a tongue-in-cheek reference to an old series of commercials, in an attempt to keep my tone light-and-nonthreatening). 🙂- 25 replies

Changes that would work in PvP, will not necessarily also work in PvE ... and vice versa. PvP balance is an entirely different and separate topic from PvE balance. Kindly keep your chocolate bar out of my jar of peanut butter, please and thank you.- 25 replies

At the end of the day, when it comes to changing powers (or creating new ones), thereHAS to be one person who makes the final call. Preferably someone who listens to the advice and ideas of others, but still, someone whose desk has a sign saying "the buck stops here".
-
It might profit the game, if there were two "Powers" guys - have them work together on the overall structure of pwoersets, but as for specific number-tweaking, one handles the PvP side and one handles the PvE side. At least then, the two sides would be balanced each by a single person, producing consistent-within-that-environment results. 🙂

Allow allies to pass through henchmen freely
PaxArcana replied to Weylin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
There is an easier fix for this: MOVE THE GORRAM ARRIVAL POINT AWAY FROM THE EXIT PORTAL. That way you don't get people zoning in, and just .... not moving, for ten or twenty minutes, while an entire crowd of like-minded fools builds up around them. -
It may be or it may not be. So ... what about people you haven't met, and do not yet know? ... Look, folks, it's simple: some people like to be generous. To total strangers. Out of the blue. 🙂

Emailing INF to yourself, doesn't help you share that INF with other people, especially those who might be newly-returned to CoX. I have an alt that was given 2,000,000 INF for finding a guy playing hide-and-seek in Atlas. At the time, she was my highest-level alt; I didn't have my own 50's to gather influence with.

If the other stances had bonuses like Defensive has BG....
PaxArcana replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Mastermind
They already do. Aggressive: the pets will attack anything in aggro range, no need to survive the enemy's alpha strike first. Passive: the pets won't aggro or attack anything, so they don't drag half the zone (sixteen enemies PER PET) after you. -
... who says they're dumping the INF on their own lowbies? 🙂
-
Salvage. There's an L in that word.

Absolutely yes. 🙂
