If we're going with this notion of an "Olympian EAT", then what I'd like to see is basically a variation of superstrength, only instead of any sort of rage mechanic, your melee attacks become charged with different elements, and you gain associated ranged attacks. Figure something like this: The "base" form is that of a demigod. You *only* have superstrength-like attacks any maybe a boulder throw. Then you pick which god you're going to follow; Zeus grants lightning, Prometheus grants fire, Poseidon grants water/ice, and Hades grants darkness. Your base form simply has s/l-type resistances, and you gain additional ones befitting your chosen deity. The inherent could be something like "inspirational", which grants a buff to allies near you, (sort of like a MM's supremacy). If that's too generic, maybe something like "god's wrath", where you either build up a meter to unleash a devastating attack of your deity or can otherwise channel their power for a short duration. Maybe just grant each attack a chance to cause a lightning strike/fire burst/etc. -
You can always choose the "minimal FX" option for bio armor, so you aren't stuck with the big growths/coverings.

Personally, I find gravity extremely easy and satisfying to use, but it is a fairly early blooming set, (except for wormhole and singularity, which come later). You can trigger containment easily, and it's a fairly trivial matter to get a good attack chain going. Darkness takes a little longer to come into its own, but you do get a confuse and lots of softer controls a la tohit debuffs and fear. Dark gets a pair of temporary pets pretty early on, and they're nice to have, (though not immensely damaging IMO).

You are dead wrong about me; I bought a lifetime subscription to CO before it launched. I played the hell out of the game, with dozens of characters at max level using all the different sets and trying out different RP concepts or just seeing what combinations worked or didn't. It became readily apparent that certain passives are just better than others, and certain powers where best for general use - Use a self targeting bind and cast the best buffs on yourself, then proceed to obliterate all that stand in your way. Sure, I could play my thematic shapeshifter who is gimped because I've taken powers from different sets that don't synergize well, and I'm locked into the same energy builder, but she's fun to play in short stints. The point is that limitations can frequently spur one on to come up with different tactics or approaches to each encounter, ('necessity is the mother of invention' and all that).

No, what you end up with in CO, for those players with access to freeform, is a bunch of fully self-sufficient tank-mages, who don't need anyone else and who can do everything perfectly. Imagine Justice League if everyone was a Kryptonian or Avengers if everyone could do it all. I'm not in favor of the "holy trinity" per se - just that you shouldn't be able to do it all.

No offense, but I really can't jive with your thinking, here; To me, heroism is about *how* you use your abilities, not what those abilities are - That's why we can have demon summoning, mind controlling, darkness-blasting heroes, and empathic, light-blasting villains. The "ally-only" aspect of powers is more about game balance; Look at Champions Online to see just how out of whack things can get when you can target yourself just as easily, for using powers.

So what do you make of many of the support sets, which have ally-only powers? Are those not heroic? What we're talking about here is not all or nothing; Blasters' forte is dealing damage - whether single target or AoE, they excel when they can do so unaccosted. They can accomplish this with a tremendous alpha strike, before the enemy aggroes them, or via other tools at their disposal.

I sooooo wish we could get that gunslinger corset without the vertical stripes/bands and that steampunk belt either with a solid buckle or with the clock/watch tintable. I also wish that we could get at least a few variations of hair with each hat...

Try the command I listed earlier in this thread; I've been able to get CoH to playable levels on a GPD Win, which has an Intel Atom processor. My current portable computer is an old HP Elitebook 2170p that I refurbished, which has a dual-core i5 3317U and only integrated graphics. A cursory search found that your computer is probably running an i3-540 with a Radeon HD 4670. The CPU is about 25% slower than on my laptop, but the dedicated graphics card is a leg-up. Money being tight, what I did was to buy a basic system like this, then added/upgraded components as finances allowed...

Dead enemies can't kill you; Use your high damage to take enemies out ASAP. Pick a primary or secondary that provide extra control in order to lock-down or otherwise diminish the threat that enemies pose. You must look at each ATs performance from a variety of angles; A blaster may not be able to walk up to a group of enemies and just take them on directly, like a scrapper can, but that's not really the intent of the blaster - They perform best when someone or something else can allow them to deal damage with full abandon. There are no doubt ways to work around their limitations, but said shortcomings aren't indicative of a lack in the ATs role/performance.

I'm in a similar boat; I liked ranged attacks just fine, but I generally preferred a support secondary. I've been leveling up an archery/tactical arrow blaster, and it's an entirely different beast. At the very least, there *are* options for those that want to forgo the melee attacks.

I ran CoH on a single-core P4 when it first came out, (though that had a dedicated graphics card). Still, you *should* be able to run the game at least at the lowest settings. If there's an issue, use the below command in the launcher options, to enable simpler rendering: -usetexenvcombine

With how relatively easy it is to change costumes, plus all the "free" costume slots we're given, this might not be a bad idea.

Basically, I want to try and create a mastermind that that leads his pets into battle from the front. Because of this, I'd need some status protection and defenses. I'm planning to take the fighting pool with this build, so I'm not too concerned with the personal attacks from the primary. I was thinking that forcefield may make a good secondary, and the force bolt could make for a neat "hadoken". I'm pretty much open to any primary and secondary. I'd love to hear your input. Thanks!

If you simply added a little text field associated to each character on the login screen, players could use it however they wished. The problem with a 3rd party add-on is that it wouldn't necessarily travel with you from one computer to another, and if it interacts with the game to pull game data, it could pose a security risk.
