  1. And if they do create that "too close" copy of any character in-game, I'll be right there with you, rooting for them to be generic'd. Until such time, I see no issue asking how to create any character in-game. We aren't in grade school here - the time to act is when a rule is violated, and not a moment sooner, and we certainly won't get anywhere assuming every poster does so with bad intentions...
  2. As the saying goes "there is nothing new under the sun" - If you provide us with a character, I'm almost 100% certain we can find some other character in fiction/comics/fantasy/sci-fi that came before, and is a very close match to them. My point is, you may not view something as original, (or "original enough"), but that doesn't mean it is actually a copy or infringing. Again, let them create their characters and arc(s), and then the devs/mods/GMs can rule on them if and when needed...
  3. The only difference is that those conversations took place decades ago, behind closed doors. My point is that we should be focusing on what the OP, (or any other player, for that matter), does with the information provided. If they do the boring thing and just do 1:1 copies, then that's on them and they should be genericed and possibly banned, but if they use that information as a jumping-off point to create their own faction and characters, (though still inspired by the BoEM), then there's zero issues...
  4. I'm pretty sure that was the OP's intent all along...
  5. Thematically, the 2 sets fit, but having played one back on live, I never really felt like /traps contributed as much as other possible secondary choices. I do like acid mortar, but found ffg, (even with it's higher base def value), too fragile to be relied upon, and having to be recast quite often. The other powers... just really didn't stand out for me, (though you can place some nice procs in caltrops).
  6. I'd say it's more like a custom mantle than a full shoulder or chest piece.
  7. But the OP never said "copy" - they said "based on". We have threads asking how to realize various characters in CoH all the time, but this one gets singled out, with a GM even stating not to do it. What's different? At no point was creating an exact copy ever mentioned as even a consideration. If we're going down the route of anyone asking how to create characters in CoH based upon other comic book characters, (but clearly NOT direct copies), then, if they're going to be fair about how they enforce things, we're going to need to generic a few signature characters and start reviewing everyone's characters that ever asked about re-creating specific ones...
  8. From my understanding, what's happening is that the game only knows the numeric references to what parts your character model is using, not what those parts actually are, so if you changed, say, a particular chest logo to a green lantern emblem on your own computer, others will just see the original chest logo that you were replacing. It's not that you are adding wholly new pieces per se...
  9. This seems closest, though have you considered the ninjitsu secondary for sentinels? I think it's a good and well-rounded set...
  10. This touches on my points - what is considered crossing the line? I get that making an exact copy is a no-no, and that they can't really specify exact criteria, because people would then just come up to that line, but clearly we already have at least 1 mutant villain faction - so if we filed off the serial numbers, changed the costumes and possibly genders, didn't reuse their names, but kept with the general theme, would that be alright?
  11. Then CoH itself needs to take a long hard look at its signature characters, because if you tilt your head just a little bit, they are clearly expy's of other IP's characters. My point is that, if we're being charitable, then saying "I want to create something like X" is not the same as "I want to create an exact copy of X". Also, we've had 20+ years of costume pieces and powers being nearly 1:1 copies of marvel or DC ones. The existence of a possibility of someone using in-game resources to exactly copy other IPs isn't an issue until they do so, so my answer is - don't create those exact copies; be creative, and when in doubt. self-report and adjust as needed.
  12. Follow it, sure. No harm in asking for some clarification though. I'm sure the GMs/mods/devs don't want to foster an environment where players are afraid to even ask... The OP could create their characters & arc(s), then report themselves to see if it's acceptable, and make any necessary adjustments until they reach that point.
  13. Well, if the OP truly is only creating "inspired-by" characters and not direct copies with their names and costumes, then it should be fine, right? If they are creating 1:1 copies, then I agree - don't do it!
  14. You need to start with how much it costs Disney to buy Lucasfilm, then subtract about 50% or more of those earnings numbers to account for what the theaters take, not to mention the production + marketing budget from those numbers, to get the actual profit, if there was any. That's also assuming they are being honest with all those numbers. Like the films or not, saying "they reported the film as costing X, and it earned X+Y gross, so the film was profitable" isn't helping to shape an accurate picture of things...
  15. Wouldn't something like a grav/FF controller better fit Magneto? I'd probably make Toad a stj/sr scrapper, or maybe staff/sr if you want to give his early cinematic depiction a nod. Scarlet Witch could probably be an earth/dark controller, with the earth powers colored as red crystal.
  16. This isn't a single player game. If another player is using their buffs to harass you or others, then they can report them for that. If you are hanging out in an area where there's a lot of people coming and going, and/or people using buffs is to be expected, then I'm sorry, but that's part of the game. Again, if people have set their AoE buffs to autofire in a crowded area, especially ones that are safe, (a la Pocket D), then I could see a case being made that such behavior constitutes trolling or harassment, but again, complete immunity? Nah - you can cancel buffs on you that you don't like, and those firing such buffs off in safe areas could/should be treated as breaking the ToS/CoC.
  17. I'm pretty sure, IRL, no one has actually gotten close enough to "Nessie" to take a clear photograph, much less touch or attack it... (If it even exists, of course...)
  18. But... But... the badge says you defeated her... 🤪

    Creating Cap

I created a shield/war mace tanker and gave him the barbarian warhammer, since it looks somewhat like Thor's hammer, as my own homage to Cap...
  20. In this context, "defeated" simply means "attacked once then sent them packing" - clearly, your character never intended or was able to truly defeat Sally, so she must be vastly more powerful than any hero - we're little more than a nuisance to someone as powerful as Sally. Truly a worthy opponent!
  21. You are looking at it wrong; Your hud indicates Sally is a targetable foe, therefore they are a valid target. Them being flagged as an "enemy" is all you need to know. Notice how your hero cannot mass-murder civilians, only those targets deemed acceptable....
  22. The point, though, is that you *didn't* defeat the monster - you merely "booped" it and sent it packing. There are also many grades of "good" - To borrow some old D&D terminology. a lawful good character may still attack a "monster", even if it hasn't hurt anyone, simply because it's a "monster". Your role as the player is not to pass judgement on in-game badges, but to figure out ways to either rationalize said badges, or to simply avoid the steps necessary to earn those badges you don't want...
  23. Is Disney/Marvel still unable to create direct Hulk movies? It feels like this should have been a Hulk sequel, and perhaps then tie into She Hulk more...
  24. I don't understand - is the game too difficult that they can't manage hasten as a click power? It is already such a good power - if anything, it should be adjusted so it itself is not modified by recharge reduction effects...
  25. It doesn't, you just have that gene, (or don't have that gene, I keep forgetting), that makes cilantro taste like soap...
