Ill/Rad or Ill/Traps: Which would you choose?
Maxzero replied to WillParkinson's topic in Controller
Traps was never given to Controllers on Live specifically because they didn't want it combined with Illusion. Illusion was balanced around not being able to setup containment damage and having poor controls. Traps fixes all that. -
I know its slightly unusual slotting but you really do notice the extra tankiness. The more resist you have the more powerful it is. If I could I would max it at 85% its that good. I still might if I could find a way. At this point I can stand in the middle of +4 Cims with negative -20 def and still be fine whereas +4 Nictus with Energy/Neg Energy attacks I have to take out the def debuffers or its dangerous for me since I only have 56% E/NE resist. Also I just tested in game all the Pet Auras have a 40' range. The descriptions are wrong.

The 5 slot bonus for Call to Arms is 3.75% S/L resist. The idea being most of the time my pets are not out so at least I am getting 6.25% recharge and 3.75% S/L resist out of them. Same with the 5x lotg in TT: Man. Thats over 11% S/L resist from those 3 set bonuses. The Accuracy bonus is also useful at +4 as well. 5 x Lotg actually has a higher def bonus then 6x Reactive Defense because it has more +def bonus IOs and the one I dropped from lotg was the End/Rec. Since I don't have the pets out as much I want to persoanlly be as tanky as reasonably possible. As for Global recharge I have already given up the 10% from 5 slot Heca in Bayonet because I simply don't need it. My ST target rotation gains nothing from more recharge, neither do the pets. The AoE does not mind it but its not critical.

Updated a bunch since then. Basically I noticed that I didn't need my pets all the time only for specific situations (AVs and such) so why am I running Support? It's not going to keep them alive in day to day play and against AVs I am tanking while the pets stand back shooting. Add to that the actual impact of Hybrid support outside of +def is very low. +8% hit and damage is barely noticable. So why not get a Hybrid that has a big impact especially when fight AVs (which is when I used the pets mostly)? Assault Hybrid has a bigger impact (+10% damage) passively then Support does when it's active. ST rotation is Burst-Bayonet-Arm Lash which is 219 base DPS in 4.884 seconds plus 2 chances to proc Ach Heel and Glad Fury every 10 seconds (gives good debuff uptime). 90% chance to proc Assault radial on Burst and Bayonet, 65% chance on Arm Lash. 4 AoEs with Ball Lightning being a -res Proc. Basically I play like a Huntsman mostly blowing AoEing and killing regular mobs easily. When a hard target comes up, I pop Hybrid then pets and go to town. Perma Pets are just for stuff like BAF, etc so I can just relax during the prisoner phase while my pets do all the work. In many ways this is not really just a Crab anymore but a true hybrid.

As long as its a new seperate cosmetic toggle. I actually use these powers as my travel powers due to tightness of power slots.

Fund new AT ideas and projects. Sitting in your email does nothing. It's not like it gains interest. Easy enough to get more.

Remember Anihilator and Ach Heel procs can only appear once on a target. Add to that Anihilation proc is pretty weak. PPM 3 and -12.5 res in AoE powers has a very low chance to fire. And by low I am talking like 9.5% (the minimum proc chance for a 3 PPM IO) proc chance for Anihilation -res in Venom nade with high slotted recharge. Around 200 base DPS in the ST target rotation. Throw in ATO proc and -60% (-80% toxic) resist and you should be pushing close to 300 DPS ST. THEN you add pet DPS on top of that. Don't fall into the trap of being an imitation MM. VEATS have good attacks, use them.
-
So the respec window completely does away with what levels slots are now just limits them by total number? That is extremely interesting.
-
Easy to say that but all the Crab builds I have seen so far have awful ST rotations (if you could even call them that) which means you will be relying on Pet DPS for AVs and such. A real optimised Crab build would have both solid personal DPS and pet DPS to maximise overall DPS. The best ST Crab rotation I have found is: Burst-Bayonet-Venom-Burst-Bayonet-Shatter. Burst as a Proccer, Bayonet with Hecatomb +proc and Shatter with 6 x Winter set. All the Crab ST attacks are garbage and would be a DPS loss to use. I have a build (posted it yesterday on HC Discord) will put it up here later.
-
Can you explain how? 16% from Tactical Training 5% from Manuevours 2 x 5% from pet IOs Thats 31% Def. Were are you getting the other 14%? You can get up to 12% from Support Incarnate but that is only up 50% of the time.
-
Honestly that is pretty reasonable though it favours Thugs since Demons for some reason need 10+ seconds to summon. But yeah the clunkiness of MMs mechanics is probably the archetypes biggest weakness. Compare that to my Crabbermind who seems to have almost all of the perks of having pets with none of the drawbacks...
-
Its all good man. I copied my VEAT over to the Beta server just to test it all out. Basic using any power that isn't a gun power causes redraw. You can of course overcome redraw through animation cancelling but it would be nice if you just had the option of disabling it.

The VEAT version has an 8 sec cooldown. -
Frenzy does cause redraw unfortunately.

Gee quite the selection there. That is literally like all the best attacks for Crabs at least. Burst is a fast animation proc monster (for Crabs at least), Venom is AoE -res, Full Auto is the AR nuke. Slug instead of Burst. Heavy Burst/Buckshot instead of Full Auto. Frag Grenade instead of Venom Grenade. Makes much more sense thematically and is power level is much more resonable. -
Any updates?
-
Oh I didn't want to discourage him from playing MMs in teams. But I also want to be honest in that in some maps and teams pets can have some drawbacks.
-
Yeah some secondaries have much greater slotting options then others. Cold, Storm, Time and Dark probably being the most flexible.
-
Mainly the inability to proceed at your own pace. Most teams tend to move fairly quickly sometimes hopping from objective to objective. Neither of which suits how MMs tend to play.

3 Holds and 2 Confuses. Holds: Basilisk x 2, Entomb 5 slot. 5% Malaise Illusions and Purple Confuse set. 8.13% Multiple ranged attacks can get 2x Thunder Strike. Let's say 2 x 2 slot (put them with the Basilisk Gaze): 2.50% total. Recovery Aura and Adrenaline boost can get the brand new End Mod set that just came from test servers called Preemptive Optimization which is on another level good for end mod powers. Gives recharge and ranged Def. 2 x 3.75% = 7.5% So that's 7.5% + 8.13% + 5% + 2.50% = 23. 13%. 7.5% from ATOs puts you to to 30.63. Steadfast and Glad Armour for 6% puts you 36.63. Maneuvours and Hover put you to somewhere 42 to 43%. Pretty close with just some napkin math. Now this is just a rough framework showing you some options. Play around in Mids to test out some ideas. This is how I make my builds. I have a goal for each build and once I reach it I then start trying to get to new objectives while maintaining what I already have.
-
Trollers are easy to cap Range Def. Both the Purple Confuse set and each of their ATO sets have Ranged Def. That's 12.5% there already. Easy access to Holds and Ranged attacks for Basilisk's Gaze (2 slot 1.25% 4 slot for an easy 7.5% recharge) and Thunder Strike (1.25% 2 slot 3.75% 6 slot) means even more Ranged Def. All Trollers have access to a recharge intensive pet for an easy Expediated Reinforcement for another easy 3.75% and more recharge. 12.5% + Basilisk Gaze x 2 (2.5%) + Thunder Strike (3.75) + Reinforcement (3.75) = 22.5% Steadfast protection and Glad Armour = +6% This is just there obvious ones there are plenty of other IO sets to get more range def. Hover and Maneuvours = 5%+ (depending on how much def you slot) 33.5% and plenty of Secondaries have Def powers.
-
Honestly the Bonfire slotting only requires a KB>KD, FF +recharge, recharge and the 1.25% range def. The 5 set was simply the easiest way. You could 4 slot Bonfire with with FF +recharge, KB converter and 2 x Recharge and then move two slots elsewhere to get the 1.25% range def. Say 3 slot Kick with Explosive Strike or 2 slots in Hover for Zephyr for -KB, a little end reduction and the range def. Honestly either work its no big deal.

It's a temp power. That FF proc in recharge is great since its a 90% chance to proc and you get 2 casts a minute so about 16% effective global recharge or 2 LotGs. This is something I have wanted to do for a while. Makes a big difference in /Storm to get FF recharges in these 20-30 second recharge powers. Makes it flow much more smoother. Not so keen on Frostwork now. Yes its a nice buff but its a fair bit of clinking and it costs a lot of End. If you are using on CD (which you are if you are putting on 5-6 targets) you are looking at 1 end/sec drain. That's a lot for a purely defensive buff. Already keeping up shields which are AoE and 4min duration. Throwing in a single target buff with a 2min duration seems bleh.
-
Yeah I don't mind the changes but I will still use the other new targetted Aoe set in Sleet simply because if you have access to an easy to acquire and long duration temp power like Blessing why not work it into the build? The other set has recharge and great resists whereas Artillery is just Ranged Def only. As for Overwhelming between Sleet and Bonfire most targets are going to be Knocked down already.
-
Doing the math you might want to keep Tactics. Against +4 enemies and with a +1 Incarnate level you T1s have a base hit chance for like 30% and T2s 39%. Tactics makes you T1s 39% chance and my accuracy 125% ACC still only gets them to 87% chance to hit so they still need some debuffs on the target to max hit chance. Without Tactics T1s are hitting 67% of the time.
