  1. Probably the best graphics you'll find with the old-fashioned game play that you want will be either Rift (a WoW clone with better graphics), Star Wars the Old Republic (ditto), or Elder Scrolls Online (which I somehow forgot to mention earlier). Also, Champions Online actually has pretty good graphics if you tweek the options a bit. None of those have great graphics, but the graphics is better than CoH.
  2. Compared to an FPS, or an action combat MMO, the game play of City of Heroes, and the other games that I've mentioned, can be described as slow. You fire off a power, wait for it to animate, queue another power while the first one's animating, unable to move during most of that time. Slow. Or are you going to try to tell me that CoH's gameplay is as fast and as reflex driven as say Terra's or GW2's? Or as anything in the FPS genre?
  3. Star Wars The Old Republic, Lord of the Rings Online, World of Warcraft, and Rift all share the same 9 zillion powers, slow game play, tab targeting style game mechanics of City of Heroes. So does Champions Online, if you want to play another Superhero MMO that's also by Cryptic.
  4. Or... you could play a Rogue and/or Villain character. Just sayin. Yeah. In fact it was how easy it was fighting Council and Family later on that made me wonder if the devs who designed Clocks and Vahz knew what the heck they were doing.
  5. Hate: Clockwork and Vahzilok at low levels. I think we all know why. Love: Carnies (I love to hear the screams of my victims) and PPD (It's just cathartic).
  6. Ah. I clearly misunderstood what you meant then. My mistake.
  7. Almost every time I play Homecoming I'm on Discord with friends. When I played on the retail servers I was almost always on Skype with friends. Multiple times on both forums I've asked people why they don't talk with friends or fellow forumites on VOIP. Not PuGs. Not randos. Not people from 4chan. People they actually know, possibly IRL. The negative responses that I've always received were always weird and nonsensicle. Best I can figure is that the people who play CoH are just allergic to the very idea of actually speaking to another human being while playing City of Heroes.
  8. I watched a couple of the Daredevil episodes on Netflix. Mostly the ones that had Frank in them. Then I watched The Punisher. I really liked the Punisher Netflix series, I liked the backstory and the character development. Now I want to see more of him just being the Punisher. The best thing that D+ can do, in my opinion, is to just continue the Punisher series with the same actor, only have it focus mostly on the planning and the action. The less dialog and the more gunshots per episode the better.
  9. Dispute improperly worded. Did not begin with "Challenge Accepted!" Objection overruled.
  10. I'm going to give the same answer that I give every single time this question is asked: Assault Rifle Mercenaries And I challenge anyone to dispute either of those!
  11. I remember having discussions on the live servers, several times, about Longbow. And I love these kind of hypothetical discussions. They highlight the difference between the childlike (i.e. comic book genre) point of view and a more nuanced and adult point of view. Children yell " But they're the good guys!", as if that just magically makes everything ok. Adults are the ones who ask "Isn't using flamethrowers on civilians a violation of the Hague Accords?" Children say it's ok that Longbow's in Mercy because "they trying to help!" Adults ask themselves if we really want to allow corporations to use private troops to invade sovereign nations. Children think that cops are heroes. Adults wonder why there are so many videos online of cops shooting unarmed people, who have their hands in the air and are trying to surrender, and wonder if hero is really the correct word to describe PPD officers. Children can't foresee the consequences of their actions. They allow psychics to enter the police force and then complain when DHS officers come knocking on their doors to ask them about some questionable tweets. Like I said, I love these hypothetical discussions. You know, I don't usually agree with Snarky, but when I do it's because he's right. For too long we've allowed Longbow to run rampant in the streets of our cities with their flamethrowers and no oversight. They've burned down buildings, caused billions in property damage, killed innocent citizens, and shut down all dissent. They claimed that their masks would keep us safe while condemning the protests against them as "super spreader events." Definitely a cult.
  12. I really love this idea! An NPC in Atlas and Mercy that explains a LOT of little details that aren't otherwise explained in game: Enhancement Diversification, Bodyguard Mode, The Law of Fives, etc. I don't even think it would need to adjust to the AT of the character, perhaps just a list of various topics that the player can click on to get another window with an explanation of that subject.
  13. I remember. I remade my main on Bree and was unhappy when it closed. I'm pretty sure it was the Homecoming team even then. It's just that their first server was called Bree.
  14. Uh oh! You know what this means, right? Incoming warning about how we've posted too much and it got a certain someone's attention. As if the entire purpose behind forums isn't to post on them. 🙄
  15. Yeah. That was not the first post that Postron made about the subject. The one I'm referring to wasn't up on the forums for very long. A couple of hours maybe. I don't remember that exactly. That's a quote from the second post that he did later. In any case, I think the request for a citation has been satisfied.
  16. Yes, this is very much true. I remember the Paragon devs posting about it on the forums. In fact, I remember Positron's post about AE farming, which read like the rant of an drunk, angry step-father screaming at the kids who'd ruined his plans. So yeah, it was stated in no uncertain terms. You do have a point here. None. And since none of us want the game filled with more microtransactions, or have raids be the only way to access Incarnate powers, that's probably a good thing.
  17. There has been no derision here. There has just been people disagreeing with you. I'm not going to apologize if you're not used to people disagreeing with you. And then there's been you calling people liars. And another poster claiming "no rational arguments", even though rational arguments have been the literal basis of the disagreements in this thread. Your posts in this thread, and those of the people who agree with you, have been full of little other than emotional pleas and counter-factual information. You're either refusing to argue in good faith, or you honestly lack the wherewithal to discern the difference between disagreement and derision. Please understand that your "No, you!" style of refusing to understand logical arguments isn't going to enable you to win anything, it's only going to convince people to stop talking to you. Both online and IRL. I know that you're going to see this post as an attack on you, but it's not. It's actually my attempt to offer good advice. Peace.
  18. Ok, here we go! Sprint + Swift + Follow is very fast. Like over 40 MPH if properly slotted. I've never had a problem using that to close with my next victim. Gap Closers are already in the game. Changing Confront into a Gap Closer would only 'hurt' people in that the time the devs spend making that change is time that they can't spend adding things to the game that are not currently in the game. So no, it wouldn't 'hurt' anyone, but there is a down side to it. What about not having a Gap Closer in a Scrapper power set is preventing you from having fun? Multiple rational arguments have been provided in this thread explaining why people are against this. They basically boil down to: I use confront and removing it would force me to respec. There's no reason for the devs to spend the time necessary to do this when these powers already exist in game. These are both rational arguments that have been made in this thread explaining why people are against this. The only people who look silly are the ones who can't see that these rational arguments have been made. Now this I agree with. And I'll even go out on a limb and say that others will agree with this as well. While Combat Teleport and Super Speed, both of which can be considered Gap Closers, do not require investment in additional powers, Spring Attack does. I would definitely support additional Gap Closers that do not require investment in multiple powers for those characters who are not porters or speedsters. Perhaps as alternate animations for Combat Teleport. Yes, it is possible. The Sentinel version of Super Reflexes has the option to take one of two different mez protection powers. The Homecoming developers have said that this has created some problems -I don't remember the details- and they would never do this again.
  19. I agree. And frankly this is something that I try to explain to people all of the time. If my experience is any indicator it will either 1) erupt into a flame war and get locked, or 2) people will lose interest, stop posting in the thread and it'll drop into the pit and be forgotten. And no. I do not believe for a moment that a single person who reads this thread is going to be motivated to "get the word out" about Homecoming.
  20. Yeah. I think that balancing the power sets is a lot more complicated that simply adjusting all outgoing damage to match animation time. What about those sets that have more AoEs? If damage for all powers just flat matches animation time then sets with more AoE attacks are going to be far above other sets. What about something like Energy Melee, where most of the attacks suck except for Total Focus and Energy Transfer? Those two attacks make the set worth taking. If you normalize their damage to match their animation time you basically ruin that entire power set. Balance also has to take secondary effects into account. If Cold Blast or Energy Blast does the same damage as Fire Blast then those two sets will be objectively better because they offer some measure of safety in addition to damage. TL;DR: I agree. Properly balancing power sets would be a lot of things, but 'trivial' is not one of them.
  21. True. But if the change that you're asking for happens it will have that effect. Invaderstych isn't lying, he's making the good faith assumption that you're intelligent enough to foresee that fact. Rather than be insulted you should be flattered that he's assuming you are intelligent until proven otherwise, instead of doing what most internet people do, which is the opposite of that. False equivalency. Building an entirely new set is not the same as changing the powers in old sets. Now normally I'd be in favor of creating new sets, especially one that has a gap closer. However, back on April 29th I issued an injunction against creating any new power sets until Energy Aura has been ported to tanks. Motion denied! Relax. It's just a joke.
  22. Having recently handled my 1,000 complaint, I have now earned the "Sorry Karen, I am the Manager" badge.
  23. This is true. However, existing players who have played long enough to become bored of low level content they can no longer called new players. So, as I said, new low level content does not help new players as the person that I replied to stated.
