Imagine if CoH Were to Go Commercial Again
PeregrineFalcon replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily. While the current Homecoming servers are in NA, I seem to remember that, in the beginning, they were located in another country. In the event that NCSoft sends a cease and desist the servers can be migrated to a country that doesn't have legal reciprocity with SK or the US. This is why I'm not concerned about Homecoming shutting down. I also believe that it's one of the reasons why NCSoft hasn't sent a cease and desist, because it would just make them look weak and foolish. It's probably also the reason that the devs don't want to reveal their secret identities. -
Imagine if CoH Were to Go Commercial Again
PeregrineFalcon replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
It depends on what exactly you mean by commercially viable. Just enough money to pay for expenses? Approx 400 subscribers at $15/month would provide $6,000/month, which would be enough to cover current listed expenses. Enough money to pay salaries for The Council of Thirteen? Approx 4,000 subscribers at $15/month would provide $60,000/month. This would be enough to cover expenses and pay 13 developers $50,000 annual income. This assumes that Homecoming is set up as a tax exempt non-profit. -
Carnies Should Drop Bonus XP
PeregrineFalcon replied to EyeLuvBooks's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I'm seriously divided on this topic. I want to jranger because my friends and I love fighting Carnies (I don't care if that word is offensive, report me) and I don't see any reason to up their XP because they're no more of a challenge than Malta. On the other hand, I fight Carnies all the time. Bonus XP, on top of getting to enjoy the screams of my victims, would be like icing on the cake. Surely you can see the predicament this puts me in? -
Base Transporter from inside the mission then use the teleporters in base to teleport to Steel Canyon. It takes you out right next to Positron now.

Oh man. I'll never get to 1k rep before my perma-ban. 😭

VidiotMaps for Issue 24 and Beyond
PeregrineFalcon replied to Blondeshell's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
How dare you not be psychic and not be able to provide support before it's asked for! 🤣 🤪 In all seriousness, I went through this same thing not long ago. Not wanting to use CoH modder. I finally did and it took less than 5 minutes and I was done. If Norton is freaking out then disable Norton. Norton is utter garbage anyway. -
I just went and checked, and you're right. The dev post did not say they weren't going to add a level 50 token. I was wrong. Thank you for correcting my failing memory. Also, are you ready to quote those posts yet where people were supposedly white knighting and/or gatekeeping? Or would you like to just going ahead and admit now that you were just making stuff up?
-
I used your owns words against you, and I didn't get your point? I even gave an example, and I didn't get your point? Your statement implies that I'm so stupid that it's a wonder that I can even respond to your post. Of course I got your point, and you know that I did. It's just that this is the internet where you're not allowed to admit that you might be wrong, ever. It's ok, I understand.

I think it's better than the devs maintain a clear vision of what they want the game to be than to try to cater to all of "the people." And they've already said why they won't add a level 50 token to the game, in this very thread no less. Sure. I'd love it if the devs gave my tanker a +100% damage bonus. Would it be good for the game if they did that? Why not? Why force me to jump through a 20 year old hoop in order to confine me to my AT?

Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Homecoming!

Neither does getting that character to level 50 with an instant token. And it does add to your experience if you're playing your character to 50, instead of just door sitting. For example: the experience of leveling a Force Field/Beam Rifle Defender to 50 is absolutely nothing like playing a Dark/Dark Defender. Radically different play styles within the same AT, but you won't know that if you just insta-level them to 50.

Thoughts on the Sentinel (feedback/theorycrafting ahoy)
PeregrineFalcon replied to Nerva's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
If I were working on Sentinels today I think I'd do something like this. As someone earlier in the thread suggested, give them Dominator Assault sets. This way they have a combination of ranged and melee attacks. Increase their range and damage modifier to equal Blasters (and Scrappers). They'll still do less damage because they won't have defiance. Leave their cone and AoE caps the same. This way Blasters will still be the king of ranged AoEs. Change their inherent from Opportunity to Guardian. This would be a toggle that can be placed on any friendly that directs 50% of incoming damage, and all mez effects, to the Sentinel. Sort of like a stronger version of Spirit Ward from the Sorcery power pool. This would not only give them a definite role on the team, it also matches their name. To encourage people to use this power the Sentinel could also get a damage bonus of their own while the toggle is active. Alternatively, the inherent could be reworked to be like Defenders' inherent, Vigilance. Except that it would give a damage bonus for less teammates (or while solo) and a range (and/or endurance) bonus while teamed. -
I remember Heraclea from the retail forums, and game, and knew him from many adventures during Tanker Tuesday. I agree. One of the pillars of our community has fallen. Rest in peace, Steve. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

A max level character has never been my goal
PeregrineFalcon replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
Ok, fine. What if I do go report the OP right now? Is that going to do anything, other than cause a mod to come into the thread to warn US? -
I don't have Windows 11, but I've had this happen to me before. What has always fixed it for me is to hold both mouse buttons down for a second. Sometimes I have to do it 2 or 3 times. The character will stop running then. Please let me know if this works.

A max level character has never been my goal
PeregrineFalcon replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
Hey, I'm ok with that response. Please make sure that the next time someone reports my post because "muh feelz was offended" that, instead of deleting my posts and giving me a warning, you simply tell them to ignore me. Cause that's what we're doing now, right? -
A max level character has never been my goal
PeregrineFalcon replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
The purpose behind trolling, for the troll, is the enjoyment they get from stirring up trouble. So yeah. I'll take that 50,000 Quatloo bet that he reads every single one of these threads while laughing and twirling his mustache, or something similar. Yeah, I just don't understand this behavior on their part. Let me see if I can figure out the thought process here: GM: "Hmmmm... I see this guy has posted troll thread number 137,482. People are responding and giving him good advice. Others are criticizing him because he's making statements about game mechanics that are obviously false and because he clearly isn't taking the good advice that others are offering. I know what I'll do! Instead of warning the troll to stop trolling, instead I'll post in the thread and politely remind people that if they don't remain civil that I'll be banning them. Because ignoring the trouble maker while warning the people who aren't breaking the rules seems like a great idea!" Yeah, I clearly don't understand their point of view. -
Where special IO's are not to be used
PeregrineFalcon replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry, but when someone has done nothing but make obvious troll thread after obvious troll thread after obvious troll thread then it's obvious that they are deliberately baiting people on the forums in an attempt to get people banned. Why is this allowed? Despite obvious troll being obvious, many people having been taking these threads seriously and have been giving good advice in an honest attempt to help this person. Others have been trying to persuade this person to actually listen to the advice through mild derision. A tactic which people have been using since the dawn of time to get the ignorant to actually listen to good advice because it works. And then we get threatened by a GM? People who are actually trying to help this person, who clearly needs help, get threatened by a GM. What's next? Am I going to getting banned if I critique someone's build and offer advice on how to improve it? This kind of heavy-handedness kills forums, because people get too worried to post anything. Is that what you want? -
In the past I resisted downloading the CoH Modder and instead downloaded the Vidiotmaps and installed each of the 3 different packs. It was a time consuming pain in the neck, but I can follow instructions so I was able to do it. Later, I uninstalled the maps once some updates made them no longer accurate. Yesterday I finally decided to download CoH Modder and give it a try. Within 2 minutes it was on my machine and had installed the Vidiotmaps pack. So if you are skeptical about using CoH Modder, as I was, my experience was that it was fast and easy and I didn't even have to read any instructions. Thanks for making this, @The Philotic Knight And thanks for making the interface sensible so that a non-programmer like myself was able to figure it out how to operate it within seconds. Ok, now you kids get off my lawn.

I agree that there is no other plausible explanation that I can think of. Since I'm not part of the Council of Thirteen I don't have all of the facts though. I've seen months were it took a little longer than an eye blink. And I suspect that, as time goes on, those windows will start lasting longer and longer. Look, I'm not attacking the devs. I'm just saying that losing active players is a bad thing, regardless of the reason.

Ok, so I've been thinking about this and I have an idea. Yeah, someone else probably had this same idea 15 years ago. I'm no genius, etc., etc., etc. Anyway, my idea is to change Rage to be both a toggle and a click, if this can be done. As a toggle it functions much as a single click of Rage with no crash. Once clicked however it gives an enormous damage and tohit bonus, equal to 2 stacks of Rage, that lasts for 20 seconds. Just long enough for someone to give their "World of Cardboard" speech. This would be followed by the standard crash and Rage would take another 60 seconds to recharge so that it can be toggled on or clicked again. Let the roasting commence! 😁

Where special IO's are not to be used
PeregrineFalcon replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
I have a WP/SS tank that I recently got to 50. No special IOs. I played him extensively on the retail servers as well. Never had a problem taking the alpha for the team, regardless of my level or the enemies' level. I really hate it when people say "lrn2plan00b!" So... I guess I'll just say "maybe Willpower just isn't your powerset." And that's ok. No one has to love every powerset. Look for the powerset that does click with you. -
Suggestion: P2W vendors in leveling hotspots?
PeregrineFalcon replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
The reason why I disagree with this is that these P2W travel powers aren't supposed to be as good as actual travel powers. The developers have even said that they feel this way as well and it was a big part of their motivation for the recent change to travel powers. Part of the "not as good as" is the inconvenience of having to go to Atlas Park, or Mercy Island, or whatever the Praetorian zone is called to renew or recharge said temp power. -

I read somewhere that something like a billion people world wide watch gaming streams. Mostly on Twitch. So if you're trying to get more people to play your game getting people to stream it on Twitch is what you should do. Personally I hate watching other people play video games. It's boring, I want to play the game myself, not watch someone else play it. My teenage boys, on the other hand, love it. They'll watch these videos on Twitch and YouTube in preference to movies and TV shows any day. This is why forbidding streaming was an incredibly bad idea. And the player base has plummeted since streaming was forbidden. Sure, some people just got bored and quit, and that would have happened anyway. But some people left to join their favorite streamer on another rogue CoH server. Forbidding streaming contributed to the loss of players, and revenue, for Homecoming. Now maybe they had to do it. Not that we'll ever know because you all know they won't tell us because of the mysterious "talks with NCSoft" BS. But if they weren't required to do it in order to remain in operation then it was an incredibly bad idea. In my completely not humble opinion.
