"I'm full of tinier men!"

Anyone get a request to release a name you just got?
DoctorDitko replied to Jawbreaker's topic in General Discussion
Back when it cost money, I absolutely let my kids make characters on my account. I did the logging in, though. Paranoid from 5.25" floppy days! -
Holy Name-Release, Batman!!! 😱
DoctorDitko replied to Captain Fabulous's topic in General Discussion
The really horrible thing was, this started when it was still against the rules to use the Internet to make money. Didn't take long for that rule to go away. Money tends to do that. -
Anyone else miss the day of FREEM?

Lord Recluse Mini-Pet Available for the month of November!
DoctorDitko replied to Glacier Peak's topic in General Discussion
OH! You reminded me of another another April Fools Day when the devs announced they would be replacing all sound effects with text, like POW, BIFF, BAM, etc. They didn't, of course, but they gave Brawl the FREEM fx and all the knockback a power could take. Atlas golf was never sweeter. C'mon, Devs, gimme some FREEM! -
At least some of this gets better if you pick a different font. On live, I think I renamed my favorite to match Montreal -- or whatever -- and I was one of the few who could tell the pranksters SG "Parallel Illusion" apart from each other. I enjoyed the prank, but loved my namesake using the "light of truth" to tell them apart. It's easier to change fonts now, but Cryptic did us all a disservice by picking a font that had identical capital I, lowercase L, and numeral 1. I suspect the reason chat has more characters than names do is down to the database they used for *ahem* characters.

So, only really good Kheldians? Good luck!

Lord Recluse Mini-Pet Available for the month of November!
DoctorDitko replied to Glacier Peak's topic in General Discussion
Oh, you kids! I remember when getting the cat-on-your-shoulder was a big deal. I also fondly remember the April Fool's day when the huge crowd of Baby New Years that were following you would end up dead in a pile behind you when you zoned. "Take your Kid to Work Day" took on a whole new meaning. Good times. -
Search him out on the forum. He's what a billionaire IRL would be if they weren't composed of 90% [expletive deleted].

I dislike farming as I dislike every other way of ignoring this game's below-50 content. What I despise is idiots stand in AE spamming AOE powers that affect other players right next to the gorram mission entry thingy! Once they get the (ineffable) out of my face, I literally couldn't care less! * Are there folks getting XP and inf without putting in the effort I do? Yes! Are there folks IRL getting money and influence without putting in the effort I do? Hell, yes! I don't give a fleigenkindersheiss about either unless they are in my way. (counterfactual scene) Genie: OK, I brought back your silly game, now what? Me: Make everyone everywhere believe in real things that are real. Genie: Yeah, I'll get back to you on that. (end counterfactual scene) * If you know, you know.

There are perfectly cromulent controllers with no AOE immobilize. There are many who have it and use it judicially. Then, there are those who give the rest of us a bad name. But the human brain loves shortcuts, so... I suggest you start your own ITF, and declare "No asshats."

Welcome home! Nicely iced, and... Have you heard of Yomo?

I always think of the blue button as a "Get out of jail free" card. Go ahead and jump into that crowd of purples; if you win, yay! If things go south, hit the pretty button!

Can't believe Major Havoc was free. Good onya!

Marine is quite fun. Combos, however, are a pain. I have a Marine/Storm, and remembering to hit both Storm Cell and Tidal Pool at the start of a fight is frustrating.

A thousand blessings upon your head for using "bemused" correctly! So seldom seen these days...

Giant versions are apparently easy: One of my favorite Dev events was when they summoned a gigantic version of ME, who proceeded to stomp me into the ground. Best defeat ever!

When exactly does an NPC stop giving me missions?
DoctorDitko replied to MikeSol's topic in General Discussion
There are also NPCs that will give missions forever (usually tagged Repeatable in the wiki). -
yOu ShOuLD cHaNGe kNoCkBAck to KnoCKdoWN!
DoctorDitko replied to Forager's topic in General Discussion
The one use case for KD->KD enh is in Storm's Tornado pseudo-pet. It turns it from a chaos-causing ADD pet to one which latches onto a single target and grinds them down to nothing. -
Anyone else prefer to just play "regular" coh?
DoctorDitko replied to Forager's topic in General Discussion
I've had good success with something like: "World's slowest ITF now forming. Yep, we're gonna stop and smell the Silphium!" -
Ah, ya beat me to it! Only by about 2 and a half years, though! I miss the days when the Internet was not allowed to be used for direct profit! The beginning of the end: https://www.nytimes.com/1994/08/12/business/attention-shoppers-internet-is-open.html

Great work by the Homecoming team and staff to keep things running smoothly six months after official licensing. Absolutely professional team whose consistent quality updates are the example that other modern video game studios should strive to follow
DoctorDitko replied to Glacier Peak's topic in General Discussion
There should be a goddamn law that says any company discontinuing a game -- especially one that needs to be online to play -- should have to open-source both the game and the server code. Unfortunately, the chances of this happening are an order of magnitude less than those of Doctor Who returning after being cancelled in the 80s.- 19 replies

I believe the first was the Cambridge Coffee Cam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trojan_Room_coffee_pot. (Disclaimer: I used to work on the Internet in ancient days, but I never spent work time and bandwidth watching coffee or Jenni. Nuh uh.)

Even back in the old (per-inherent fitness) days, a level 1 unslotted hero could leap over a 2-lane road from a standing start. Even civilians can ignore being hit by cars and fight tirelessly to hold onto their purses. You have always been doomed to be exceptional in this game. After playing games where my character couldn't step over a ground-level log border onto the grass, this was refreshing. Embrace the super!
