  1. Maybe we need a badge for awarded for leveling only from non-AE missions. Maybe with a power analyzer temp power attached. Appeal to the badge-hounds and mini-maxers among us. (I might be a bit of both.)
  2. That's a very interesting idea. Today, though, that would just mean endless begging in LFG for PLing via Dreck mishes or some such.
  3. Sorry to hear it! Good luck with that! I'm allergic to tobacco smoke, but turns out to be the additives. And I'd miss hot peppers terribly. Maybe Science will find a cure... (Disclaimer: Doctor Ditko is not a real doctor. Do not take medical advice from Doctor Ditko.)
  4. Sympathies! Just potato, or the whole nightshade family?
  5. No worries! I need translating for many of your phrases, also. Took me a month to figure out what "A hiding to nothing" meant, and I'm still not sure. "Two countries separated by a common language," indeed! (Plus, better with fish than steak. Steak calls for baked potato!)
  6. Mmmmm. Malt vinegar on (US) Steak fries or (UK) Chips. Good comfort food!
  7. When I summon my Phantasm and he charges into melee despite having only ranged attacks. When my Phantom army appear then stand around looking at each other, making me have to fly over to the other side of the bad guys to get them to engage. When other people's pets get in MY way! Thankfully, the HC devs seem to be working on most of these. Non-blocking MM pets have been a welcome change! What, I thought the topic was pet peeves?
  8. But not slotted sprint, unfortunately!
  9. It all comes down to money. Game developers (evil ones anyway) have discovered the trick of abstracting actual cash into various tokens. (I think Amway may have started this.) That way your brain doesn't think, "I just blew my beer money on this stupid game." The farther from actual cash you can take it, the more players will spend. Evil, as I said. Not needed in HC as it stands. Hopefully not ever.
  10. I missed those 1896 pin-up girls. Those ankles!
  11. Agreed. The brilliant thing that AE did was crowdsource content. It turns the normal MMO dynamic on its head, leveraging the creativity of the players to help keep themselves amused. Too bad about the farming, there are some excellent stories in the AE system, eclipsed by the "Quick and easy path" of which we were warned by the little green guy.
  12. I think the rewards may not be perfect, but are much better than on Live. I'd like a smoothing pass on the whole Incarnate system. Maybe make Shards equal to 10 Threads and eliminate the whole Shard recipe thing (which is very confusing to players new and old). I very much like the fact that accumulating levels can continue past 50, albeit with less impact. And I'd second the suggestion that added slots would be a cool reward. Not something to build around, but cool.
  13. Very true. But there was a personal touch in dropping on your face and getting a message, "Taxibot XXX online. Please invite me to your team and stand by for transport." Sniff. Something in my eye.
  14. IIRC, you can even use the Taser inherent power to ignite your Oil Slick. Pretty slick, really.
  15. A lot of selflessness on display in the old game. One of the reasons I missed it so. Taxibots and Badge Tours were both very nice!
  16. Not only recreated all of them I remembered, but (as on Live) many p&p Champions characters who were unfortunately orphaned after we all got out of college and into Real LifeTM.* *A game which is highly overrated, IMHO. I keep gaining XP, but I never seem to level! Plus, the graphics kind of suck...
  17. They were called "Parallel Illusion." Those of us who hated the CoH font and replaced it with something better could tell them apart, but most couldn't. Their costumes were identical, too. IIRC, something like the default Illusion Control PA outfit.
  18. Incidentally, for the Hospital express, the P2W Self-Destruct power is a bargain at 100,000 inf. By the time you need to worry about debt, it should be affordable. A no-debt way to exit a fight gone bad? A free trip to the nearest hospital? Such a bargain!
  19. One of my favorite things in the game happened when my Teleporter (Grav/FF, but he was primarily a teleporter, dammit!) was making his way across the Hollows, Hovering and TPing slowly, like you did to keep from running out of END and dropping out of the sky. I looked down and noticed a guy I had teamed with the previous night, surrounded by Trolls and with his health plummeting. I didn't say anything (didn't have time) but I promptly laid every bubble I could on him. He stopped dying and took down all the trolls. Never felt more like a superhero! I loved the Hollows for Frostfire, but even without him, I'd still have a soft spot for it.
  20. It already is the most powerful. You've just slotted it wrong!
  21. I was there for the Torchbearer event last night, and it seemed to go pretty smoothly, if at 24fps maximum. Thanks for putting in the time and effort, guys!
  22. Wait... Did you guys just settle a disagreement in a rational manner? GMs! We need a ruling here! Is this behavior allowed? Incidentally, I find the test server fun for "test to destruction" research. You can try to solo Dark Astoria without gaining debt or embarrassing yourself in front of the "real" Mot. Lets you know just what your original might be capable of. The new copy-to-test function is a blessing.
  23. The tornado, I believe.
  24. Details? Those of us with Hover want to know!
  25. Thanks much, Jimmy, for the edifying answer! Does anyone know if Is there a list of best practices for this sort of event? If not; suggested, based on above: * GFX to minimum * Kill all network-using processes except CoH; maybe even kick other users from LAN. * Send no buffs * Hide sfx when close * Fewest pets possible * Simplest costume available * No auras Starts to sound like Hami Raid suggestions, doesn't it? Granted, if I do this, it may not be appreciably helpful. But if everyone did it... Incidentally, I've had trouble increasing the priority of the CoH process, it always reverts to "Below Normal." If there is a way to do that, can anyone share? Also, has anyone done A/B testing with the net error correction settings? (Makes me long for the Windows XP days, when I replaced the windows desktop process with CoH. Saved a lot of CPU cycles back in the day!)
