  1. I was thinking of making a write-up on how to play City of Heroes on a USB/SD Card as a "portable app", but decided against it for two reasons: The nature of MMO software patching means you're doing 20-45 minutes of work that can be negated anytime Homecoming Devs feels ready to push out a release. (Could be days, could be seconds until your portable copy of the game stops working. And there's no advance warning possible.) Most users will think a portable copy of the game will magically gets past restrictions set by Network Admins in places they're not supposed to play. Sure, no UAC is necessary to launch once patched (which is true for running Tequila on any computer with Standard Rights anyway), but it'll run into the same filtering and firewall limitations as any other device once the game is launched. Nevermind a locked down Enterprise environment where employees are basically using kiosks for daily tasks. (Can't run an app if you have no rights to look at drives in the first place.) Okay, there'd be a third reason... The "no good deed goes unpunished" effect. You write a guide about it, and people will ask you specifically for help troubleshooting why your guide doesn't work for them. Granted, Tequila and hardware issues, I don't mind so much. Been helping with that for years elsewhere. But there's many things that can go wrong when you leave the recommended support path for City of Heroes. In other words, trying to shoehorn something meant to run on a hard drive on the exact same computer day after day... into a flash drive and a new "home" every time you play it.
  2. If a Genesis slot is considered, I only want it to have abilities named after Genesis songs. Finally, we'll get to know what power the word "Abacab" holds! (P.S.: I have no role developing anything on Homecoming. The last program I wrote was to entertain bored people in IRC with a dice rolling app.)
  3. I apologize for dropping the ball. But eabrace did forward your request. And Titan Network is still focused in the talks between Homecoming and NCSoft, so unfortunately, that's all I've got at the moment.
  4. Paragon Wiki is indeed a snapshot of the "game-that-was". At Titan Network, we're trying to keep SCORE and Ouroboros Vol 2. info specifically out of it, so it's an accurate base for both versions of City of Heroes. I do know Ouro Vol. 2 players were discussing adopting the City of Heroes Wikia site (which forked off of Paragon Wiki when they moved off of their service) for their own updates. And other wikis for games are springing up on their respective sites. And yes, Paragon Wiki is licensed GFDL (GNU Free Documentation License) which means you're free to incorporate Paragon Wiki info into your player guides and other materials. You can even export a page of content for use elsewhere. GNU licenses are "copyleft", meaning the same rights you have to make a guide with Paragon Wiki is the same rights others have to access your guide in turn. (Free to use, reproduce or modify.) For those interested in making a wiki, we do ask respectfully that you please hold off for the moment. I do understand the urge, believe me, this news is unchanged from when folks discussed it last summer. But we really don't want to waste anyone's efforts towards this end or to do the same work twice in effect. As can be seen from Cipher recently, the silence isn't all waiting on our part.
  5. I remember when the City of Heroes forum implemented a reputation system, some folks from Triumph were competing for negative reputation to see who could get the lowest. It doesn't matter what kind of brass ring folks are after, if one's hanging, someone's going to try to reach for it just because it's there. I don't worry about it too much, myself.
  6. That wouldn't affect the site. I'm using NoScript and AdBlock Plus, and I finished the registration process 100%. I'd suggest turning in a Support ticket at this point. Use the Support menu at the top of this page to get started.
  7. That depends if they have any character info they've discussed on the boards. If they didn't post about them, or write that info in their profile, there's no way to search which forum name has which characters.
  8. If the name is already taken, we do not intervene. Names are first come, first served. We're also not currently enforcing the inactive name policy discussed last summer. Your best shot is waiting and seeing if the player responds to you. You can also try sending a Forum Private Message, which will send an email to the player's email address. But it's at their discretion.
  9. ...not sure if that means it's working or not. Did it log in for you?
  10. We use two accounts per user: You need a forum account (which you have now) to be able to make a game account here. Set the username (if you haven't already) and password to what you want to use to login to City of Heroes. You log into the game using the Game Account only. Keep your Forum Account password secure: it can be used by anyone to change your Game Account at any time, even if they don't know the prior one.
  11. We can't help with server support outside of Homecoming Servers. You'd need to talk to We Have Cake directly for support. If you're trying to connect to Homecoming again, let us know.
  12. The servers had an outage today. Give it a try now, they should be normal.
  13. And usually unprepared players. (Me, mostly. 😛 ) But all joking aside, most Giant Monsters drop 1-2 reward merits for your time and a badge on the first defeat. Giant Monsters are always purple and anyone can contribute to their defeat (regardless of your level, you're either attacking it at -1 level to the giant monster, or the same level if you match the Giant Monster's level. Level 1s are just as effective fighting them in or out of a team.) Damage from a Giant Monster also scales according to your level. (Level 12 toons get wounded like they're Level 12, Level 50s get wounded like Level 50s.) Good to know during a Winter Lord fight. Because of this, there are conditions for leaving the proximity of the Giant Monster mid-fight and not returning to defeat it, or coming in and hitting it when less than 10% of total damage by you is possible before it drops. (No rewards.) Monsters are various in level conning (+5 to +8) and drop normal XP, Inf and have the same drops as regular enemies. Some Monsters offer badges on first defeat (Jurassik, Adamastor, etc.) No scaling of any kind applies, if you're Level 1 and fight a Level 50 monster, he'll deal Level 50 damage. Underlings are the weakest enemy rank, con blue (-1 to your level) and are a shade away from grey. XP, Inf. and drops if you're lucky.
  14. I've read about those! What's been your experience with GPD if you don't mind my asking?
  15. AMD, smallest Ryzen in a laptop with Vega Graphics clocks in at 12.5" for $665.56. GeForce seems married to laptops 15" or larger, no matter the price at the moment, but ROG (Asus's imprint) is teasing the Zephyrus 14 for 2020. Depending on the price, it's the smallest one I've found to hold a GeForce RTX2060.
  16. 100% network issue. The client isn't able to talk to the server for some reason. Things to check: Are you able to ping the game servers? Does Tracert finish? (even with time outs on some hops, it should at least find the destination.) You can find the IP Address for the log-in server in the manifest.xml file. Pinpoint the issue. To rule out your home network or MacBook, try another Internet source. Does your mobile data from a cellphone let it connect if you turn a hotspot on? Does it work at a Starbucks barring that? If it can connect on another network, you know you don't need to do anything further to the Mac. If it doesn't, then you can stop messing with your home network, because the laptop is the culprit. I'm assuming you checked the servers at the same place you're trying to play the game. If you're able to check server status there, then the servers aren't completely blocked. Sounds like the game ports might need to be looked at on your router: is another app on those ports? (Click here for the Client article in Paragon Wiki. The listed ports are all the way on the bottom.) As a possibility you didn't mention, (but I have to say this because it HAS come up a few times in the last 9 months) if you're trying this at a School or Workplace, they typically block all traffic on 'exotic ports' (not 80, 443, and apps that they want to run) including this game. If this is your situation, there is no solution because defeating their software filters and firewalls is usually grounds for corrective action. Especially if the MacBook you're trying to do this on isn't yours (even if you checked it out, "Equipment Loan" still equals school property). Please don't get into trouble because of us. A less severe, but similar scenario is using public wi-fi at a Hotel or Business, when they want folks to use it for web and email, not everything else. That may be as simple as paying the front desk an upcharge to play games or watch Netflix in your hotel room.

Submitted for inclusion: Client Diagnostics 101. Should be a good piece for XV. Computers and Peripherals. Also wrote this in Help & Support that may fit the same category: Laptops & COH: A Modern Guide.
  18. Oubliette_Red has you covered.
  19. He's got a point... Cold Front Ice Queen Duke of Winter Princess Hailstorm Wind Chill Grandfather of Storms ...all become interesting in Spanish... Frente Frio Reyna de Hielo Duque de Invierno Princesa Granizada Escalofríos Abuelo de las Tormentas
  20. Trying to join certain Arena events generates that error; it is a known issue. There's no fix at the moment. Logging off and on sometimes clears it, or waiting for the next server restart clears it (see the Server Status channel in the HC Discord and see if it stops after routine maint. is done or a reboot occurs.) Like Vulcan discovered, a temporary fix is to disable or move the Errors channel to a different tab, but that suppresses useful error messages too. IT IS specific to a character, so logging in with another toon shouldn't have the same error repeating. We're sorry this is happening.
  21. 1. Please file a ticket using the Support link in the menu above. 2. The fastest way to gain a purple drop is playing Level 50 content. (Any Level 47+ creature capable of dropping a Level 50 IO recipe can drop an Ultra Rare recipe, with three exceptions: Giant Monsters, Monsters and Underlings.) It's also the most rare drop rate in the game, so it doesn't surprise me either.
  22. Sounds like the file isn't getting through on your network for some reason or another. I'm able to download the file, which tells me the file server is working. (Not to say I don't believe you, but it's not widespread.) Another mirror exists for the file other than Homecoming's file server: http://nsa.tools/hc/20200127_706/patch/texture_gui.pigg Are you able to download that file?
  23. That second picture is essentially what Tequila does. It just goes through the important part of checksumming the file to make sure it's the same version as the current one. When Tequlia can't download a file, it has a report at the end of the process and doesn't launch anything. Simply close and reopen Tequila to let it try again. Clearly, you can access the file as the download prompt appears. You did mention mobile internet. If the connection drops out, the file is counted as a failed download, and Tequila tries downloading something else. If missing files keeps happening when you patch, your Internet connection may be the issue. However, if every time you restart Tequila the same file fails to download, let us know.
  24. You don't. We will. 😄
  25. Excellent! From that graphic card, I can tell you're using a laptop. (AMD Llano Integrated Graphics - AMD A6 sticker might be on the palmrest. Neat trick, eh?) Here's a few things to try! Windows 8/8.1/10 -- Dang it, you even told me Windows 7! LOL WINDOWS 7! Click on Start, then type "msconfig" and press enter. Open the "Startup" tab. You can disable any app in this list to prevent it from starting with Windows when you log in. While none of the apps will prevent Windows from starting, pay close attention to the name. If it's something you KNOW you use, or something hardware related, leave it alone. Everything else, turn it off. Secondly, make sure your drivers are up-to-date. Use this page to find them: https://www.amd.com/en/support Concerning the age of the laptop chipset, the last drivers are going to be released from 2015 or 2016. This is normal. It's also possible you already have the latest ones installed. Finally, laptops must be plugged in to game. Make sure the DC Power Brick is plugged into the wall, and the Power setting (battery) is not in Energy Saver mode. This makes sure the processor is turned up to regular speed instead of low-power mode which does terrible with games. Give these three tips a try, and let us know if it gets any better. If not, there's something else we can do.
