  1. Incandescence used to work while in nova or dwarf form, didn't it? Or did I dream that?
  2. WOOHOO! Time for the classic "Me? Little old me?! But, but, but, I never win anything!" speech. Which I totally haven't practiced in front of the mirror for days... 😉 Seriously, though - thanks a ton for this, @Yomo Kimyata. Your timing is brilliant, I have a couple of new build ideas I want to try but didn't have the inf to pay for them. Forum PM sent just now. The build I use is below. Only ranged attacks, per my personal preference. FWIW this build cost me ~350 million. 90% of the time my attack rotation is just Umbral Torrent, Moonbeam and Life Drain. Everything else is situational. Originally I had this kooky idea that Abyssal Gaze and Positron Cell could be useful for the Hami part of LGTF but have never gotten around to trying it. My own dark/atomic is full t4 incarnate, those of you who play on Reunion might recognize the name from the casual Friday iTrials. I have that same snob bias as yourself re. the very popular powersets, so it feels good to have my view validated. 😄 Thanks again and have fun with your new blaster! Franz Schlechtnacht - Blaster (Dark Blast).mxd
  3. OK, maybe "tool" was an overstatement 🙂 I was referring to the LFG queue thingie which is located between the words "Email" and "Tab" on your menu bar. "Tool" was intended to distinguish it from the in-game chat channel which is also named LFG.
  4. Dark/Atomic blaster. ToHit debuffs galore, and your most often used AoE power has a KB component (which you will convert to KD with an IO, of course), which is helpful for both soloing and teams. Thematic logic: Both powersets have a fairly similar animation style, so you look the same whether you are using primary or secondary powers. Might not make a difference to you, but to me the visual cohesiveness of the primary and secondary are a big deal. Depending on color scheme you can make them look like all-water powers, all-dark, or all-radiation powers, or any number of other things. Personally I wanted a radiation concept but don't like the radiation blast powerset, so the dark/atomic is my pretend-radiation guy. It exemps nicely, at level 30 you are only missing your Nova and your epics. Mine is full t4 incarnate, but plays about the same on a Penny Yin as on a Keyes trial (OK, slight exaggeration 😃). Quick-animating powers, which should be helpful when transitioning from a melee-centric playstyle to a ranged one. If need be I can post my own build.
  5. This would be brilliant and a definite improvement. But probably too late in the game's life to make a difference - at this point we are all so used to forming teams manually via the LFG channel rather than with the LFG menu tool, that we will continue to use the channel even if the tool gets improved.
  6. Wait, what? Isn't that the purpose of these forums - to dictate how other people should play the game and to yell at the devs that they must hardcode the game so that everyone plays the way each poster wants them to? 😄
  7. One advantage that NW has over stalker (I semi-mained an ice/nrg stalker before becoming a convert to the Cult of Widows) is that they get most of their important attacks early on, so they exemp really well. If playing lower-level content is a priority for the OP, that is a point in the widow's favor.
  8. The simplest way to mitigate psi/toxic damage is to make a habit of scouting the enemy group before attacking, and then selecting the psi- and toxic damage dealers as the first ones you kill. Similar to how you prioritize sappers when fighting Malta, or surgeons in Cimerora, etc. Yes, you can plug a psi or a toxic gap in your damage mitigation, and for a truly high-end build you will want to. But for most of us mere mortals, that kind of optimizing requires some tough choices in terms of what you have to sacrifices in your build to make room for the anti-psi/toxic IO's. Which means your character will be a bit less powerful all the times you fight non-Arachnos enemy groups.
  9. Our SG has a recurring event called Bring Out Yer Dead, where people can take one of their long-abandoned characters out for a spin. It works well - you either get reminded of how good the character is or you get a brief, nostalgic enjoyment of the character before placing it back into mothballs. Well, that or you get confirmed in your earlier decision to shelve that character. Either way, something good comes out of it, and you have Fun With Friends(tm) as a significant side benefit.
  10. +1 to this (bolded text my emphasis)
  11. +1 to all of this, especially the second and third one. Blueside, Steel Canyon and Talos Island for similar reasons - the architecture seems cohesive, and these are the zones where as a new player you started to get a sense of your character and how it fit into the bigger Paragon City picture.
  12. Yup, that was me. Great to see that you are still around. 🙂 Edited to add: My global is @Atrocifist these days.
  13. I use Beta Decay on two different characters*, a dark/atomic blaster and a rad/dark tanker. On both of them I have noticed that from time to time, Beta Decay toggles off without me noticing. I thought it might be caused by an enemy attack which randomly turns off one of my toggle powers. However, in that case it ought to be equally likely to turn off one of the other 5-6 toggle powers I am running at the same time, but in practice it only happens to BD, not to the other toggles. So, even though I know the above is not a whole lot of information to go on, the question is: Is there some commonly-known-to-everyone-but-me reason why Beta Decay can get detoggled without any other toggles being affected? Thanks in advance. (*) ...which is why I am posting this question in General rather than in either of those ATs' subforum.
  14. There was a group called The Rabid Pingus, I was a (mostly silent) member of that. Character names were Atrocifist on blueside and Marcus Junius on redside.
  15. The same thing happened to me dozens of times, until I made a Widow and found that it can do all the different things I look for in a character. So, +1 vote for (hybrid) Widow, for all the reasons Gulbasaur mentioned in his post. Sorry for sounding like a crazed member of the Cult of Widows 😄 Whatever playstyle I happen to be in the mood for when I log on, the widow is good for it. Ranged or melee, solo or team, lowbie or incarnate missions. As someone who was constantly searching for a Forever Character, it feels good to have finally found it. It also feels weird, though. Like, what do I search for now?
  16. Solid advice. Although the OP's reference to Ghouls makes me think that this is a goldside character, in which case finding people to team with will be a bit difficult. On the other hand, playing on goldside is - for most people, at least - more about the storylines than the challenge, so taking your mission difficulty down a notch in the tougher missions can also help.
  17. I searched, I promise I did, but I don't see your build in the forum. Brasilgringo, would you mind reposting it, or alternatively PM'ing it to me? I am looking to start a water/plant myself and am too lazy to make a build if someone smarter than me has already done the dirty work. Thank you in advance!
  18. https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Lore_AMA After the Cataclysm, some of the ex-devs answered lore questions about the (now-abandoned) future plans for the game. The bits about the Coming Storm and the Batallion are mixed in with a bunch of other stuff, so you have to read all the AMA's to get the full picture. Not that reading the whole thing is a bad thing at all, it is an interesting read. Personally I am not quite as disenchanted with the CS/Batallion ideas as Greycat and Darmian, but I definitely agree that the Coming Storm was way more dramatic in my imagination than in the ideas presented by Positron & Co. It seems like Yet Another Undefeatable Alien Invasion that humanity somehow averts because plot power.
  19. In the absence of any replies to the above post, I have tinkered with a build myself. It is not great, but better than no build at all. If any of you more experienced builders in the CIty can give suggestions for improvements, I would appreciate it. If not, at least this might be useful in the future to others like myself who just need a build to get started with. A few things to note: - This character will most likely be retired as soon as he hits 50, so I have not included any purple IO sets or any other really expensive sets. - Endurance use is higher than I would like, at least in the early/mid levels before the toggle powers are slotted for -End. Liberal use of Energize and Power Sink will help with this, but I do hate being dependent on click powers to maintain endurance, it takes up precious time that any self-respecting brute would rather spend on mashing attack buttons. - Power Surge is only used as a slot mule for the psi-resist IO. Basically I had a power slot which I didn't know what to do with. So with all those caveats out of the way, here it is: | Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1464;671;1342;HEX;| |78DA6594694F53411486E7B6B794B6EC4B01D9CABE5750BF131430414848488C6B9| |A5A47B87A29A44BA2F193BFC2F59BAC9AF8BBDC105C7089423D77DE972569D3E6B9| |7DCF36E7CCCC9D7B3859F6EEF2937165452EB9C96C36713193CFE9E042CAD1E994F| |62BA5A2933AE52CE7B3B1997CDA114CB8779C743E1B14538B714ECC6957EBF894AB| |53B98C934ABA10689CD4F7743A7B624E4C64965732AA7C7E65C58D4F3B8B4B3927B| |D1836FF1656B5BE5B661E67757255F408BC5CCFAD7E6AD549C559319F984B66733A| |F3A85196D123BF4375F429D86A51D0692BDF12E980F67DF201F8DA73B74C8C5FFDF| |01BAD649FFC0596FE060B47AEAA10B04A6CA385836429581622C360C563D45917F8| |59C7CF3A35AC53C7FC757F40AF488075026B3EA345D7C90DB07193DC02CF6C8396C| |4063983E05FDA0EC09643B200B629D45B13EF10EB852258779BE7D34A1F618C7DC4| |C611137B8A1C1B2247D09715895AC6B7A301F4C942CA91579517E4A336E5B912DEA| |AF21C327B53A966F5EA6BC8DE719DBC0176DD246F91B7C12D89AA65BEDA11C198E4| |93AAF59C743D27DDCD49777347BB39F14EF16D406DAB61081DF692B6D89A90C76EF| |2127AB60365D6DCFB1D6BEFDB459EBE6FE0B6989BD94BF37BDA3E80031FC94FE467| |7070078C4ABD56D4F3B5B2DEE0347DAE800191DB99BF9D3B32ECEDB2F43D7C401E8| |22305D2DB4161C24BC193D1F90CB123CFC1B32FC897E42BF08DB959969965CF1E4E| |C6D857729FFC09BE15AF7EEE76FF00D61F919E86A80DFD8316122D4E2DCE3E5554A| |9516AA3D45AECE3DB2C5FEFF40C1629A345CA589172BE48B950A44CDBC76F81C2EC| |C9B3A54298616910A77DDE3E7E0328CB4486AA94375F13B91356E6FE196B1726B87| |BA2F9AC1974567115ACEAC0AE7E391DD78FB8BDD371BC6B55DC811A4EFC3FD4B0E9| |86| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|
  20. @BrandX, would you mind posting that build or PM'ing it to me? Regardless of defenses, I am sure your build is better than the hodgepodge I have been able to come up with myself for my elec/elec brute. T.I.A.
  21. Redside also has Psimon Omega's "Nictus Dissection" story arc at level 30-34.

    I wanna pew pew!

Just a thought: Arachnos Widow is a possible alternative for what you need. Not trying to talk you out of your kinetic/nrg stalker, because it has a lot going for it, but file this under Things To Look At If The Stalker Is Less Than I Had Hoped For. Gulbasaur's builds in the Widow/Soldier subforum are a good place to start. I believe stalker has better melee damage outout than widow, though, but not being a numbers guys I could be wrong.
  23. Total Domination has too long a downtime to be relied on IMHO. Having said that, however, it is an easy source for an additional 7.5% +recharge if you can spare the slots to put 4 x Basilisk's Gaze in there.
  24. This is what you should feel bad about 😖 To date your ex' younger sister is one thing, but to insist on calling her by your ex' name is either rude or creepy. Give the new dominator its own name and its own identity, and let the old controller keep its name and thus its dignity.
