issue 27 Focused Feedback: Costumes
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Not that this is bad, but I loved Diamond Cut. What was wrong with it that it got scrapped? -

Not sure why you got downvoted for asking this, I would have too. The person you replied too meant skirts but said shirts; I would have been confused at first as well. Also, thank you for the work you did on the new patterns! I utterly adore them, especially the diamond cut pattern. Rebirth has put out some really nice quality costume designs like this too, so I'm happy to see HC getting some love as well. 🙂 -
Yes... I haven't really been able to tell when toggles are being suppressed and when they're not. Granted, I've picked up a fair amount of mez resistance on my beta characters via their sets, but as something of a "dumbass," I've no idea how to tell if they're suppressed when I do get mezzed and when they come back to working. I'm not someone who keeps a constant eye on their combat log (and shit flies through there so fast I can't keep up with it all) or keeps power analyzers around. Some sort of more visual cue or something that makes it really obvious we're still under suppression would be amazing.

Wanted to play with the new sheathed weapons feature, stumbled across this skin in TW and immediately had a concept come together. This is Impetuous (emphasis on the "imp") Sinner - TW/Rad Scrapper. Edit: I'll have to post some better ones later when I'm not half asleep. -
I keep hoping that it might get the /Devices treatment. Not replacing the entire set with Devices, but maybe exchanging out some of the powers. Like, I feel like the auto turret would be a way better T9 than the current one that's basically considered useless. Some version of the sustain and/or accuracy drone thing would be cool as well, but I'm not sure if that's asking for too much/getting too OP. I do love Traps though, and I agree that I'd like the look of Triage Beacon to fit the set better, and it would be nice to maybe see it be more "useful" or getting a shorter recharge time.

issue 27 Focused Feedback: Symphony Control
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Symphony/Energy is what I was trying out. I think I can make it work, especially with my combat tp bind if I actually sit down and redo her slotting. The auto enhance feature seems to be crap. I did debate Symphony/Dark as well; seems like that combo might be good as well. -

A couple of the characters that I created on Beta: Tac. Android I - TA/Sonic Defender. Using the new Diamond Cut pattern Folk Lore - Symphony/Sonic Controller. Already go the name saved on Everlasting for when the patch drops. Keep going back to this toon on beta because it's been so fun. -
issue 27 Focused Feedback: Symphony Control
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Thank you for your insights; I've certainly learned a lot from you regarding controllers and dominators. I will have to retry it and spend time slotting it the way I did my controller (and not using the auto-enhance feature). I had some teleport binds that were making /energy okay to use, but obviously I was doing something wrong since I struggled so heavily on my dom compared to pretty much breezing through everything on my controller. I have trouble envisioning Symph/Fire thematically, but that does seem like the route to go. I'm not used to playing an all ranged dominator, lol. All the other ones I've tried either get into melee or joust in and out, so this will be interesting to try. -
We're celebrating my daughter's birthday next weekend, so unfortunately I won't be able to be there. I'm actually a little sad because I was going to bring my plant/rad troller over to do Little Shop of Horrors. xD

Not at all! /Time is indeed very strong with pretty much any of the primaries (I think it can even be made to work with Ninjas). It used to be that I saw people pretty much only mention /Time that I started looking at other MM options. Everybody has their own idea of "ultimate" and I'm sure there are folks out there who find /Time fits that bill. 🙂

issue 27 Focused Feedback: Symphony Control
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
That's kind of why I went with /Sonic, not just to kick back, but to have a more hands off secondary that lets me utilize the stuff from Symphony more. As a bonus, it makes the Reverb more tanky as well and makes mobs easier to kill. I still can't get Symphony to work on a dominator. I know it's something on my end--I'm not building it right or playing it right or something--but my doms keep crumpling and feel like they're doing less damage than my controller. Seemed like Symphony/Energy might have some synergy, and maybe it does when built right. -
issue 27 Focused Feedback: Symphony Control
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I've been practicing jousting on quite a few different AT's lately, so the cones on this set for dom's don't bother me as well, though I'd be tempted to pair it with /fire for anyone wanting to play it more at range. My own thoughts so far: I rolled up a Symphony/Sonic Controller (saw someone here mention the combo and thought it sounded interesting), then boosted her to 40. I'm not much of a Mids person and don't really know how to make builds or anything, so assigning slots to powers is usually something of a guessing game for me, but I tried to put some thought into it, and even spent time looking through the IO sets to see what seemed like it would work, what set bonuses might be nice, etc. That being said, anyone have any good guesses for where to put the controller ATO's in this set? I have one of them in Aria and one in Confounding Chant, not sure if this is optimal. Anyway, I've never done any of the Cim missions before (and I also wanted to see if you can get to Cim from Ouro now, but I couldn't figure out how to do it), so I went out there, put my settings to +0/x4 (no bosses engaged yet) just to get a feel for things and ran Daedalus' first mish. Wasn't expecting Arachnos (again, never done these that I can remember), but between the Reverberant, the Symph powerset, /Sonic's debuffs/buffs, and potentially even some of my own slotting, they weren't much trouble. This powerset combo is a joy to play together. Reverb is a surprisingly tanky little dude, and since he likes to duck into melee range, is a good candidate for the -res hula hoop. Does he taunt? I swear I heard him make the taunt sound, but maybe I'm just crazy or it was the Arachnos. Like others have said, he seems to sometimes be a little odd when it comes to combat. Sometimes he's quite aggressive and I'd be fending off 2 groups, other times it was like he would just get tired of fighting and in mid-combat, just come floating back to my side and not reengage until I got on top of the mob. Even with his oft crazy pulling, he tanked a group of Arachnos on his own while I picked off a second on one of the times we aggroed two groups. I actually fully enjoy the different types of controls available in Symphony. I found myself really looking to play control on the field. Sometimes I'd fire off the sleep so I could more carefully maneuver a certain mob or something. I also enjoyed opening with Chords of Despair and then slapping a procc'd Liquefy beneath the group, which would get Reverb going in to tank while I plied those who maybe weren't affected with other means of control. It became a fun game of single target and balancing out which control to use when (stun, fear, or sleep, as I opted to skip the confuse power). The damage on the set feels nice without being too overpowered. I am also impressed with the range and width of the cones--you can pretty much capture an entire group with the cones, and I even blasted a couple of them at a mob that was in my face and was pleasantly surprised to also hit part of the group behind it. I love the visuals and the sounds (Chords of Despair sounding a bit like a guitar riff is awesome--I think that's what it was anyway; I keep my sounds turned down low in the game). Reverb seems a bit hard to see sometimes, though my sonic buffs helped make him more noticeable. Oh, and I treated my single target hold power more like a blast and frankenslotted it with procs; seems to be working, it felt like it was hitting pretty hard. I realize my feedback is not based on bleeding edge scenarios or the way some of the better players here play the game, but I thought others who play more like me (more casual, easier difficulties, aren't necessarily great at building/don't care about min/maxing) might be interested in how some of these new changes feel. I hope the combo will feel good even leveling up from the low levels as I intend to create it on live as well once the patch hits. Also want to try Symphony on a dominator as well; tried it with /martial and hated it, but I plopped it at level 30, let the auto-enhance feature slot it, and went to Croatoa and couldn't kill anything. So back to the drawing board there and see if I can't hash out my mistakes. -

issue 27 Focused Feedback: Sonic Attack Revamp
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
You do know that sometimes being this dedicated to being so support only oriented can actually be detrimental, right? Just because you bring decent debuffs to a team doesn't also mean that you aren't being something of dead weight because your attacks do so little damage. These changes allow for you to still bring the -res in support you desire, while also helping the team kill shit faster because you can hit harder than a wet noodle. Have you actually tried these changes on beta yet? A lot of these complaints seem to come from people who haven't actually tried this out for themselves. And not all of us who play defenders want to be relegated into feeling forced to play /sonic because it's the best support blast set. I have a whole primary dedicated to support, my secondary, which is a *blast* set, should not be considered more important than that (or more supportive than my primary); and being able to blast harder means I am still supporting my team's goal of kill the things before they kill us (while still helping them kill the things harder as well). Nature/Sonic might actually be a fun combo now though since I believe Nature has one or two powers that also do -res to enemies. I do agree with the concerns people have over the T1 and T2 and potentially the order of being able to take powers on a defender while leveling. But overall, these changes to Sonic Blast feel like a buff across the board, not a nerf. I look forward to playing with it more on beta. -
issue 27 Focused Feedback: Costumes
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I love the new patterns added for the costumes, and I love the ability to have rocket boots activate both when jumping and flying, as well as being tintable. I did have an interesting little glitch with the... idk what to even call it, graphics, animation?... of the rocket boots on my test character coming out of a mission. Not sure if it was the major lag spike that caused it, but instead of the jet streams, I had a "pool" of fuzzy mess around my feet. It was easily remedied by detoggling Hover and toggling it back on, but I thought it might be worth mentioning here as well as showing a screenshot of the effect. -
issue 27 Focused Feedback: Sonic Attack Revamp
TygerDarkstorm replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
So coming from my minimal testing and someone who is not an elite player or who knows how to slot well, I rolled up a TA/Sonic defender, jumped it to 50, and then just let the auto-enhance feature do its thing (I realize this is not idea, but I'm half asleep and don't know enough about making builds to have spent a long time just figuring out how to assign slots and enhance powers when I wanted to jump in and test Sonic even with my half-arsed slotting). Anyway, jumped to PI and picked up a Council radio mission at +0/x4 (again, I'm okay saying I'm kind of a noob and didn't want to overwhelm myself since I haven't played this combo before), and I have to agree with many of the others who have tested the set that it feels like it plays really well. It was quite fun to set up some of the arrow powers, then whack them with the cones, and whittle down any LT's still left standing. I admittedly haven't played sonic blast at the high levels, but the adjustments in the beta so far make it feel fairly powerful, even on a defender. The attacks flow smoothly and I didn't feel like I was hitting like a wet noodle like I tend to do when I play /Sonic on a defender. I know a lot of people are worried about the reduction in the -res applied, but idk, I kind of like the sonic attacks having a bit more oomph behind them, especially when the majority of content, stuff dies too fast for the -res buffs to really have time to stack and be effective. I do hope that many of the naysayers are actually on Brainstorm testing them so we get more than just armchair feedback. I look forward to playing with the set more and trying it out on a blaster and seeing how it feels leveling and facing different types of mobs (since I realize Council are just lolpunchingbags). -
So take a niche case thinking you've proved something? That's a terrible example, especially as even with a mix of 35-50 players, having a level 50 in charge benefits everyone--more powers, better rewards, better xp, etc. That doesn't mean that the level 50 lead is also a maxed out incarnate built for cutting edge content, which was more of my point. There are people who exemplar their level 50 characters, and when I say that, I'm not using a niche case like the ITF as an example; many will run the lower level TF's and story arcs as well. Your experience and playstyle are not the same as everyone else and your original blanket statement still does not apply to all players. I will probably never be good enough to play at a 4 star difficulty (nor really want to), and that's okay, I have the lower difficulties for which to achieve these rewards should I so desire to have them; this should not be something that impacts you, especially when this currency does not power up your character in anyway.
-
You're saying this like it's a blanket statement objective fact when it is not. There are likely just as many people who build for exemplaring and enjoy it as there are people like you who only want to play a min/maxed level 50. Not all of us are interested in being cutting edge, and it's nice there's opportunities for those of us who are more casual to still be able to earn this "currency" without playing the AH if we so desire. It's not like it's required to earn these things.
-
Oh, I just recently made a defender with that combo but haven't played her much yet. I wish Traps were a bit more like blaster Devices, but it's still such a fun set and that powerset combo seemed like it would sync nicely.

All good mate! It was a fun run, and I laughed at myself for actually jumping irl on the second TF when you set off ageless. 🤣

Meet Dr. Elaina Wrath - Plant/Rad Controller. And yes, I see I went over the limit of the bio; I came up with it on the spot while waiting for the MSR to start/fill, so I'll have to go back and edit it. It's supposed to finish off (for now) that she runs the House of Wrath villain group (which is open for coalitions or anyone who wants to join Elaina in her pursuits). Ignore my shabby base-building skills; the editor and I are not friends, but since it's just me in it right now, it'll suffice. Edit: And I also see I need to change Brig to Zig--my brain is so tired today. -

I wish I had taken a picture of it, but there is a player on Everlasting with a toon named Agent Basilisk. Their costume was brilliant and I wish I had taken a pic of it (was a PI mish team so I didn't think to try and they left the group before I did). Female character, so the snake hair, reptile tail, not sure what face they used. But then they had the character outfitted similarly to a human-esque toon. Ugh, describing it doesn't do it justice. I want to do something inspired by it, but am afraid of copying them too much. xD Edit: There is also a specific costume request thread that may be more of what you're looking for for this sort of question. From my collection of characters, this is Ruby Reptile, though she's more of a reptilian alien than a snake, but could provide some inspo while I see what else I can come up with. Edit: Here's another one you can use for inspo: she's a fairy, but is using some of the Talons pieces, which are pretty reptile-like. -
Hm, that's a good question. 😅 I think it did used to be TygerDarkstorm and then I did the change global name thing to Valnara, which was apparently taken so it gave me @Valnara1. Lol. Why I changed it, I can't remember. 😅
