Another round of VEAT suggestions - Night Widow specific
Triumphant replied to KaizenSoze's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
@KaizenSoze Well, based on the information in your latest reply, I'm not so sure that you are wrong. That sounds pretty frustrating. Sorry. 🤷♂️ Not to derail your topic, but I'm kind of having the same issue with my Ice/Inv/Ice Sentinel. Cool powers. A lot of fun to play. He runs out of endurance frustratingly quickly, though, and I have him slotted up with endurance in Durability and Stamina + lots of endurance procs. Ah, well, maybe it will get little better once I hit 50 and reshuffle my slots a bit. 🤔 -
Can we convert threads into Empyrean merits? Please?

Not going to happen but, for what it's worth (nothing), I think it's a good suggestion. 👍 -
Another round of VEAT suggestions - Night Widow specific
Triumphant replied to KaizenSoze's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
@KaizenSoze Part of the problem with Night Widows may be the very specific powersets. Most AT's can have endurance issues, depending on the powerset combo you choose, as certain powersets are just more "endurance hoggish", if you will. This can be offset by carefully considering your primary and secondary powersets and then filling in the gaps with endurance procs from the health and/or endurance sets. But Widows are "locked in" to a choice of one base powerset and two branching choices. So, you kind of get what you get and don't throw a fit (as it were). It's always kind of put me off from trying them. I have played Crab spiders a couple of times, but never really cared for the similar restriction in power choices. Ditto for Peacebringers/Warshades. I do think you should try to stuff all the endurance procs into your build that you can afford (panacea, miracle, etc.), along with stuff like Numinas Convalescence and what not. These really do help in a notable way that I think will surprise you. Or (and I realize, this is not really a solution to your specific problem) just play an energy blaster and perma Energize, as I do, and never worry about energy again (I run all toggles and have hover and fly turned on all the time and can cycle every attack power I have, repeatedly, and my endurance bar hardly moves. (Okay... maybe I'm just bragging, now. Nevermind. Anyway, blasters are horribly overpowered. 🤷♂️). -
A few problematic power-related things-- for me, anyway.
Triumphant replied to Globalize's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah, the sound effects are cool. Reminds me of the old ray gun noises in the Flash Gordon cartoon that I watched as a kid, back in the 80's. -
I'll have to remember that notoriety trick. Clever!

Royalty of the Row (Origin Story - Super Group - Heroes)
Triumphant replied to Cyrickain13's topic in Roleplaying
Sounds like a group of street-level heroes that patrol Kings Row and put the beat-down on the local thugs. Which is cool. 🙂👍 -
I don't mind a little club RP. Even heroes and villains need to kick back and have a beer, now and then. I do find it gets boring/stale for me after about an hour, max. After that, I'm wanting to move on to classic action/investigation oriented comic book RP and adventure. There are some players that are super into it, though, and prefer to spend most of their time doing it- and that's fine. I imagine it might be the primary means of social stimulation for people that are physically disabled, grappling with social anxiety disorder, or stuck inside because of coronavirus quarantine, or what have you. Or heck, even for people just too broke to go out to the bar, tonight. 😛 It's difficult for people to get the social interaction they crave, under these circumstances, and club rp might be a viable means of doing that.

Honestly, on a full team, you've got 8 people. At least one of them ought to be a controller with good lockdown powers. Once the tank has the aggro dialed in, the controller locks down the mobs and then the energy blasters can fire away. You'll still get a mob or two bouncing around, but that's part of the fun IMO (even when I'm running a tanker or other melee toon). I think PUGs are the real problem, though, because you send out the invite and then you get what you get. Team composition is random, so you might get a nice mix of AT's or maybe 1 blaster and 7 scrappers. You just never know. Level of experience with the game by players in a PUG is entirely random, as well, so they may not grasp how all the game effects interact yet. In these instances, I think you just deal. When I play melee toons in a PUG I just use Combat Teleport macros or the "F" key to fight. Yeah, there's a lot of chasing mobs. That's just how it is and I don't mind it. It reflects how fights are in the comics. I mean sure, you see team tactics in comic books. What you don't see is every enemy glom onto the biggest tank on the team every fight, and stand there flailing ineffectually, while they allow ranged toons to pick them off. If hero teams did that in the comics, it might work once or twice, then the villains would figure out that the X-men (or whoever) just uses the same, predictable tactics every time, and quickly adapt. Even in a purely game experience context, having every battle resolve in this rote way every time, would quickly grow boring. A little randomness and chaos keeps players on their toes and helps make things interesting, IMO (especially once characters become very powerful and team play grows ridiculously easy, even on +4/8).

Triumphant replied to Globalize's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah, there are serious issues with the timing of how the power effects go off and affect enemy behavior. The problem is, I don't see how you address those issues without a huge amount of changing up the code, so I think it's likely this isn't going to change any time soon. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the OP, so if the Dev's decide they can do it and make it a priority, I'm behind that plan 100%!!! 👍 -
This is interesting. Thanks for doing the leg-work. I've always been pretty curious about this but I tend to forget to pay attention by the time I get to the end of a story arc. 👍

Power graphics that made you shelve a character
Triumphant replied to Gentoo's topic in General Discussion
I typically test the different power auras/animations in the costume creator before I finish making my character, so there's no animation/aura that has ever made me abandon a character. There are powers that I won't ever pick b/c I dislike the graphics, though: 1) Ice armor. The graphics on this power are terrible. You've got these big, cumbersome, goofy-looking blobs of ice on your arms and legs. Like, you're supposed to move... fight effectively with those? I don't know how you could even stand up, honestly. Also, it makes your character look like an idiot. 2) Ice/fire sword. Pretty cheesy looking. I don't hate them quite as much as Ice armor. I will occasionally take them if I badly need a close-in attack on a ranged toon, but I'm never really happy about it. I feel like the graphics for these could be redone to look much better than they do. 3) Some melee weapons/guns. There are some wonderful-looking guns and melee weapons in this game. Most of them are poorly rendered and uninteresting to look at, though. It's like someone that wasn't interested in creating the weapon models was given the task and then got sick of it and started getting lazy about it. Here- I'll bang out another crappy-looking gun. There we go, done. Now I can move on to something more enjoyable. Now, granted, a person's opinion on what is visually appealing is an entirely subjective thing, so maybe I'm the only (or, at least, one of a few) people that feel this way. -
Fix website rescaling on every forum-list load?
Triumphant replied to Shenanigunner's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
That doesn't really bother me, personally. The main problem I have with the forums is when I hit "unread posts" it takes like 15 years to load. 😛 -
Yeah, it's not for everybody. I was a slow, somewhat reluctant, convert to discord. I like it now, but back when I started using it on Roll20 it just irked me that I couldn't use the in-game Roll20 voice chat because it's so buggy. I have occasional issues with discord but, for the most part, it seems to work pretty well. Disconnect/Reconnect typically solves in sound issues I have.

What are your favorite things about Sentinels?
Triumphant replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Sentinel
@Bill Z Bubba Oh, yeah. That stuff can make a difference. Powersets and inspirations and whatnot really impact performance, too. My blaster has his incarnates at T3, presently, and I did all of Mu'Vorkhan's missions solo last night, at +4/8. I sort of have a method I use to engage that tilts the odds for me. Firstly, I have energize perma'd. If my robotic drones is up, I activate that for heal (slow recharge on lore pets though, so it's often not up). Before I attack, I activate Assault total core and Clarion partial core, then gobble 1 defense and 1 resist inspiration. Then I click aim and build up. Then I combat teleport into the middle of a group of enemies, trigger Mighty assault, followed by Nova. Whatever is left (usually little to nothing) I mop up with my normal attacks. That's when soloing. When in a group, things are moving very fast and I don't typically have time to activate all those powers and/or wait for them to recharge. I don't typically need to, though. As long as I have a tank or other melee AT engaging and drawing the attention of the enemy, I can typically spam my ranged attacks and combat teleport in for occasional blapping with near impunity. For your particular build, the approach may necessarily be very different. Each combo of powersets, even within the same AT, can produce very different ways of approaching tactics and combat (which is actually one of the things that I really enjoy about this game, tbh). -
What are your favorite things about Sentinels?
Triumphant replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Sentinel
Interesting. I'm not sure why you're having such a struggle with your blaster. To be fair, I've never played fire/time. My current main blaster is energy/energy. He can typically fight +3/8 or +4/4. It does vary with the enemy type, though. I have a great deal of trouble with Praetorian Seers, for example, although I don't fight them very often so it's not really an issue. -
It was one of the biggest hurdles for me, back when I first started playing. Even after approximately 2 years of regular play, I still don't grasp 100% how it all fits together and functions, but I have enough understanding that I can build a pretty good character now. For the most part, until level 50, I just outfit my characters with plain old lvl 25 invention enhancements and then pad them out with procs from the healing and endurance sets, as I get the money to acquire them. The little bumps of health and endurance you get from these will help in the survivability of almost any AT and powerset combo. Then I may focus on getting the signature enhancements from ATO sets (ATO are the enhancement sets particular to specific archetypes: Blaster sets, Tank sets, Scrapper sets, etc. One enhancement in the set typically has a very good bonus, such as giving a scrappers crit a 50% chance to go of, and so on. I buy these as soon as I'm able to afford them, much like the health/endurance procs). After you hit lvl 50, that's where it gets more complex, as I start thinking about what I want my goals to be for defense/resist caps, endurance, mez protection, damage and recharge, etc. Start with the link that The_Warpact provided and then go from there and keep asking questions if there's something you don't quite grok. You'll start to figure it out eventually, I promise.

What are your favorite things about Sentinels?
Triumphant replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Sentinel
I like them. I have two at the moment: Dark/Dark and Cold/Inv. They aren't nearly as bad as everyone says, IMO. On the other hand, yes- they are largely inferior to blasters. But, then again, what isn't? I agree with Snarky that that need a little bump to range and damage (Not a lot, just a bit of both) or else a massive reworking of the inherent to make it truly valuable. -
I think the review was good, overall. I would say the last sentence was perhaps a tad too rough and the review would deliver the same information, in a more friendly manner, if it was excised from the post. While I would have omitted that last bit, I entirely agree with the reviewers opinion.

plz fix hic up or rubber banding in the game
Triumphant replied to Rezarfox's topic in Help & Support
I've never experienced rubberbanding in the two years that I've played the game. It's most likely on your end, I'm afraid. -
Yeah, I seem to remember that one. Just had to randomly click on doors in the area until I found it.

What are your expectations for the Loki series?
Triumphant replied to DougGraves's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture

Yeah... you've got a point there, friend. To quote a character from Deadwood, my favorite TV show of all time: Being a human on planet Earth, in the year 2021, ain't for sissies, folks. Truth. 😟
-
Well, yes- you have a valid point. It's all inherently ridiculous, isn't it? I mean, it's a comic book, after all. 🤷♂️

I don't know why you're going so aggro on everyone, amigo. Peeps are just giving you honest replies to your suggestions. I think your ideas are pretty cool. I wouldn't mind seeing them implemented. This is an actual game that is being run without the IP holders permission, though, and they can't start taking money for actively working on it, or the IP holder is going to come down on them like a ton of bricks. As far as Hero vs Villain Supergroup action, you can do that in places like Recluse's Victory, with two consenting supergroups. You could also play it out in a purely RP fashion, maybe by transcribing your characters into a Pen and paper system and using something like Roll20 in tandem with CoH and a player base (Hero or Villain). EDIT: Eh, ignore the bits I striked out. I missed the reply where you clarified that you meant after the Devs get IP rights for working on the game. 😛
